  • How was it that the most powerful nation on earth, the most technologically advanced, the wealthiest, could spend nine years bombing the heck out of one of the weakest countries on earth, one of the least technically advanced, one of the poorest?
Educated in agriculture and economics, Mike Boddington became an academic at London University in 1967 under the tutelage of Professor Gerald Wibberley, the doyen of countryside planning in UK. Mr. Boddington left the sheltered confines of academia and established a rural planning consultancy, in 1972, which took him all over the world.
He visited Lao PDR in August 1994 to assess the need and established a project with the Ministry of Health. COPE, a cooperation between the Ministry and international NGOs, was established in 1997. Wanting to have a representative of the Lao disabled community, Mr. Boddington established the Lao Disabled People’s Association in 2001. To generate a longer term, sustainable income for COPE, a Visitor Centre was created in 2008 and recently visited by U.S. State Secretary and President Obama.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

Why does this video only have 8, 800 views? To me it's incredible how unaware the US is of it's own past and its also astonishing how they continue to be

Very good thought provoking video. I spent some time with Mike in Laos. I discovered that there are many shades of grey and that the best intended actions can have many unintended consequences. We are deluding ourselves if we think we have anything like a full picture of what is going on in the world based on what we are dished up by the mainstream media.
Mike, if you are reading this, keep up the good fight!

@@mikeboddington5196 Mike, your desire to be responsible is noble. What are you doing to expose and reduce the amount of corruption in the UXO aid program? The USA has spent $ 270 million on UXO removal and it is estimated that corruption has taken 40% of that. Are you fighting corruption or on their side? You have to be one or the other.

If Laos did not have to go through this devastating situation, I wonder if Lao people in America would be more recognized like Thai, Cambodian, and Vietnamese people. The King of the Hill episode is a good example. Funny and relatable but kinda sad. More people should learn about this secret war.

What is not told is that developed countries, French and America, purposely instigated and created the conflicts in Laos and Vietnam; all for the purpose of natural resource gains. The strategies of war are the same strategies used, when the Europeans came to America and created the genocide of the indigenous people of America; using indigenous people to war against themselves by supplying them with weapons.
The Bombs are just an advanced way of execution done onto the indigenous people of south east asia.
As a Hmong, and my dad was manipulated to aid the CIA during this war, I can say for sure that the CIA knew exactly what they were creating finding the Hmong and knew that the only ending for the Hmong was their death, (mentioned in the book Backfire, written by Rodger Warner).
The US bombing was also target bombing as it was to get rid of the evidence of what they created, wiping out the peopel who aided the US in a created war that they created, again, all for the purpose of monetary gains of natural resource riches and the gains of the estate
