  • Many of you may have Singer 15 sewing machines that are more modern than this 1905 model. While Singer machines stayed in production for many decades with very few changes to speak of, there were some running changes made over the years and that included the way the shuttle race and hook installed into the machine after cleaning. In this video, I show how to reassemble one of the earlier class 15 shuttle and race systems before Singer changed is designed to be more service friendly from the front side.

    Just like the other person's comment: so helpful!
    I've just disassembled that part of my singer 15 but I couldn't figure out how to put back together the hook, because it jumped out of the shuttle race without me taking away the other parts!
    I knew that the only place where I could find help was this channel, it contains so much "colture" regarding these mechanical old beauties!
    Thank you so much!

    Great video, My 15-91 electric bobbin was stuck and this showed everything, I was able to take apart, clean the assembly and she works great now,

    Awesome, it explaines why our Bobbin case from a 1907 machine we tried putting into our 1948 (15-91 model) was causing a jam. The 1907 Bobbin case was a mirror image with the little hook leaning left instead of right causing a jam. Amazon had the correct one for it for under $8. Problem solved

    Thanks so much for this video! I've been trying to clean the bobbin race on my 1950 Singer 15K80. I'd managed to get it all back together (eventually lol) but couldn't get the pesky thing to attach back to the machine. It's so fiddly! The bolts just would not go into the holes. I can see now why so many 15s have clogged bobbin races. Anyway, I've watched you and seen you have the same issues. Thank you for keeping it real! I know I'm not going round the twist now. :D

    I just got my 15-30 treadle out yesterday and today to clean it. I bought it in 1985 down the street where a 90 yo old was going into a home. I paid 100$ for it including the oak Singer cabinet. This was a good video for the race. Might you have any more on this machine for tension cleaning and threading? Thank you.

    Just wondering how you got the "trim ring - that's not a trim ring" off (at the 5:55 mark). I'm trying to put it all back together. The hook jumped out when I disassembled, and I can't figure out how to get the trim piece off to put the hook back in. Thanks.

    I have a machine with the same shuttle race . It's hard to find a spare one.Can I replace it with the one you mentioned, the one with flippers?

    • @VintageSewingMachineGarage
      @VintageSewingMachineGarage  Před 2 lety

      The later ones with the flipper design are not compatible. However, if your machine is a Singer, there ARE places to search for spare vintage parts given how giant of a company Singer used to be. Try sites such as bonanza.com, Ebay, Etsy, and this site which specializes in vintage Singer.

    Thankyou so much.. this video was really well explained ...my problem is... the needle is hitting on the shuttle hook.. how do i solve this.. i reassembled everything but still...plz help me😊

    • @VintageSewingMachineGarage
      @VintageSewingMachineGarage  Před 3 lety +1

      There can be any number of causes for this, but you can start by taking out the old needle and installing a new one. Try Singer brand needles and be sure to install the needle exactly as your manual says while also ensuring that the needle is installed all the way until it stops and then hold it there to prevent it from dropping down while you tighten the needle thumb screw.

    I tried doing this on a 1910 machine I picked up but for some reason when the needle comes down it bends passed the shuttle I cannot understand what the problem is, the needle seems to come down further than my other singer machines, have you any idea what the problem is?

    • @VintageSewingMachineGarage
      @VintageSewingMachineGarage  Před 2 lety

      Tough to say without looking but I would first check to be sure you have your needle inserted correctly. Refer to your manual (they are free as PDFs online if you don't have one). Also, note that a needle can be inserted all the way but slip as you are tightening the thumb screw to secure it. Make sure you have a 15x1 home sewing needle which this machine should take. (same as are common and still used today). If that does not address it, it could be a timing issue or a needle bar adjustment. Don't give up though as these machines were engineered for adjustment.
