One of the best painted dragons I have ever seen. The mistake made the green pop and set the tone for the color scheme. Very nice job!!!
I love my new hobby therapy at Dr. Faust's! Highly recommend! Amazing green dragon!
Hey man, your content is amazing, I have learned and grown from watching you paint. With every video comes new tip and it is awesome, you go above and beyond any other modeler on CZcams, I'm a particular fan of your Reaper series, as its more in my price budget and I would love to see you paint the Cthulhu from reaper, it's cheap, it's massive and I know you will have a blast painting it, and I know I'll have a blast watching it, keep up the work sir, you have inspired me and countless others, nice job.
I've been watching a bunch of your painting tutorials, and I have to say they are some of the best I've found on CZcams. I especially like that you incorporate your knowledge of color theory into both your painting and your explanation of the painting.
As always a beautiful paintjob!! I really love watching you vids, you are very good at explaining and your results are always gorgeous. Many thanks for the time, teaching and inspiration you share!
Love the wings texture, colour. Beautiful.
Oh WOW! That turned out amazing. You have helped me a lot.... I appreciate these videos!
That looks really nice. Love the color in its mouth, stark contrast! :)
Doctor, a great paint job as always. I like the green brown body coloration. I am not really fond of purple mouths. If I painted it I would just stick with a pink/red mouth and tongue. But that is just what I prefer. Your mouth is painted well.
.....what Bob Ross termed "a happy accident".
Awesome model and paint job!
Still love all your tutorials. Haven't missed one since I subscribed
Hey Doc, fellow So Cal miniature painter and "Brookhurst" patron here...Lol! Great work as always and love to see another as passionate about their painting as I. We have met once or twice at Brookhurst where for a time I believe you were painting in the back! I too always love those "happy accidents" that lead to discovery's that improve what we do! I wish I had the patience to do videos of my work but I barely have time to post work to my poor website www.HistoricalHobbies.com. Hats off to you! People just don't realize the time and effort it takes to do these types of tutorials. I like the colors with the exception of the choice of "purple/Blue" in the mouth. I think it cheapens the whole effect, you have already pushed it with such a vibrant green the mouth (for my taste) is to much. I think a more traditional flesh/red would have made the dragon look more alive and believable. That just me who always goes a bit understated, bottom line still magnificent!
I'm always impressed by the results you obtain considering the time you've spent and the fact we are talking about Bones models. It's something I really appreciate with your videos, you demonstrate it's possible to reach very nice painting quality with simple and quick techniques if you have a good undestanding of the colours theory as you have. Thanks a lot!
hell of a job. nice work
That Green is stunning.
fantastic work....man im jealous
Brutal paint like allways from your channel =)))... Vallejo they are best color on the market =)
Those wings look great
He makes it look so easy
Love it!
You have created the purest green.
I pinned the tail on Narthrax to the plastic base that it came with. Mine kept leaning over again and again as well. Thankfully that did the trick and was easy to do.
wow - impressive colour scheme
Wow I love that green
Very nice work
Nice!!
Fantastic as usual. I think I like this one better than Cinder. Great job and thanks for sharing!! I look forward to the next video...
One thing I wish was explained- if we would like to replicate, what would you have done differently knowing now that the Envy Green would appear thicker than you anticipated. Would you have done this in a different order?
Good video as always. Where is the music in the middle of the video from? It reminds me of one of the soundtracks from a computer game called Majesty from back in 2000.
+leakycheese It's in the notes.
I really like these dragon videos. Would you consider doing reaper's Kaladrax Draco-lich at some point in the future?
Great work. I have a question about washes. I've noticed that, depending on the base coat I have, washes sometimes do well, sometimes they run off (maybe because the base coat is too smooth). My Army Painter red spray leaves a smooth coat, which makes washes bead up/run off. This also happens a lot on my bones minis.
Any tips on helping a wash work with a base coat that is too smooth? I thought about trying a dull coat before washing.
What are you using? Is it a pre-made wash (i.e. something like Agrax Earthshade, or Game Color Sepia wash) or is it something you're mixing yourself? If you're mixing it yourself, what are you using to dilute it with? I ask because usually, if something refuses to adhere, its either because of a glossy, very smooth surface or its a weird chemical reaction. This is especially true if you're using just water to dilute your washes; it has to do not only with the surface its being applied to but also the surface tension of water. In the case of thinning with water, try adding something like a small amount of dish soap to break the surface tension, or combine it with something like a matte medium or glaze medium. You could apply a coat of matte varnish before applying the wash, but the only drawback is that *everything* sticks to a matte surface, meaning that if you do an all over wash its going to stain the raised surfaces as well as darkening the recesses and it will be much harder to clean up afterwards.
well now that I see it on the video and can size compare. it really is a great dragon, not to mention cheap.
very nice
where did you buy this awesome model
I like what you do and learning a lot. could you show doing the rock beneath the dragon on the next one.
+Tracy Golladay VGC Cold Grey with VGC Sepia wash.
+Doctor Faust's Painting Clinic Did you paint the base separately or was Narthrax always there. I have him glued to the base and a bit stumped on how to paint the rocks.
liono1118
It doesn't come apart.
On this model, it seemed to me that most of the stress was on the right foot, so I put in a pin along the length of the right foot, and then another up through the heel into the lower leg. It seems to be holding up nicely.
Did you start by priming the bones figure with something it looked like a zenithal highlight initially. Did I see that correctly or was i mistaken? If so what did you use?
Great, great job...question...what colors did you use on the rocks??? You didn't go over that...
+Joseph Rhodes VGC Cold Grey with VGC Sepia wash.
No mistakes only happy accidents
Great work. The end result seems less glossy than when you were painting. Did it dry like that or did you seal it with something matte based?
+HouseofChains81 Always seal with Testors Dullcote.
For large models like this, what size brushes do you recommend?
TOP !!!!!!!!!
Hello. I am very new to miniature painting and first I wanted to say thank you for this step by step tutorial. I am trying to emulate what you have done to this exact dragon and so far I am happy with my interpretation. I have a question, though. I have an issue of my paint drying out on my palette pretty quickly and I find that I have to keep mixing more. Am I just really slow at painting or is there a trick to keeping the paint from drying out so fast? Even the washes seem to dry out faster than I can apply them in one sitting. Hope that makes sense.
I just add more water as necessary. You can also mix in some extender to slow the drying time, or try a wet palette.
@@ThePaintingClinic Thank you, I will look into the wet palette idea. One last thing, how much do you wet down your washes. I got to the step where you apply the blue/black wash and it completely took over my paint job. It looked like a charred green dragon and I will need to start over. Thanks so much for responding, I do enjoy painting and your creations are amazing and help a lot.
I don't have a typical ratio and just measure by eye. It depends on the color being used and the color it's going over.
I am about to paint my first larger dragon, and I was curious: Would you recommend a beginner to prime the parts, paint those, then assemble the dragon, or assemble it first, then prime, then paint? I'm not sure if painting the dissassembled parts makes it easier for a beginner or not.
Assemble before paint because there may be gaps to fill. You can leave obviously different sections apart. In this case, say, the dragon and the rock.
Thanks, that helps me out a lot.
Great painting, as always; I enjoy these longer videos.
On a side note, I've been suspect of your interest in MST3K since I first saw one of your videos because of the intro song, haha. I only recently saw a video or two where you explicitly mentioned your appreciation of the show. So, knowing that you're a big MST3K fan, I assume you've heard the news?

Hello, question. At the begin the miniature is already green, then you paint it gray, but then its green again. Is there any reason you paint gray over green, to paint green again?
I'm not seeing it go back to gray at any point. Maybe its the angle of the miniature? At one point, as he's applying the base coat in the airbrush booth he both turns the miniature and sets it down so that the top surface is exposed, showing the gray primer where he hadn't painted the base coat yet.
Thank you :), i actially learned a lot this 2 months based on this videos, i had never used a gray/black coat before, but it works wonders.
The Music sounds good , what is the Name of this Song ? Can someone pls tell me :)
Doctor Faust, did you use anything to fill the gap between the wings and the body? I would love a video on how to do that
+Ellen Phillips Epoxy putty. Putty video is in the works.
+Doctor Faust's Painting Clinic Awesome! Thanks! It was actually this video that inspired me to believe that maybe mini painting isn't impossible. Thanks for that too :]
I see someone got Critmas presents! I'm glad a couple of your works found a good home. Hopefully we'll see them in action on Critical Role! If anyone else was curious: czcams.com/video/wCj4kCq1Z9Y/video.html&t=11763

When I assembled this model I had to pull the tail around and glue it to its Rock.
Didint This Dragon Make it on To Critical Roll Episode?
Yes. It's also on the shelf on the talk show.
@@ThePaintingClinic nice! I loved your work on the Giants series.
Hey dfp, i couln't find this model on the website of reaper miniatures. Any tips for finding these models?

Damn, G. That's sick. How you gonna get 4 dislikes tho? I will hunt them down...
is your pallet a tile?
+Kharn Darko Yes.
+Doctor Faust's Painting Clinic does is offer anything special as compared to a plastic pallet or any another?
+Kharn Darko It's cheap, durable, and easy to clean. Plastic gets scratched and stained after prolong use.
I have that dragon. And now, three weeks after painting it, it leans down so badly that its head almost touches the "ground". Ridiculus.
welll looking good dare like em and yes think old minis and that dun in metal willwhaght a lor and brass rod by the tune still good tip pin the tail like em OOOO HAS BIG UN
