I have Inflammatory Breast Cancer - all nodes removed on right (28), Sentinel Node on left, double Mastectomy. I'm NED x 2 years, but the nerve endings in the chest and under right arm are hypersensitive. Can't wear a bra or cami with any sort of rubber in it. Wear a compression sleeve which helps with the nerve damage in that arm and for Lymphedema. Cancer sucks.....

I’m 4 years after chemo, right sided removal of all lymph nodes, mastectomy, diep reconstruction, plus oopherectomy. Stomach sporadically swells up like a balloon most days. The pain is extreme. Also have worsening joint pain everywhere and severe right shoulder pain. My face is the only body part that’s pain free. Life is pain, painkillers don’t seem to work. Opioids do bug they won’t prescribe them. Have ongoing physio and checkups but have resigned myself to a life of pain but trying to make the best of it. I’d do it all again. Without treatment I’d be dead. But life is depressing. Thoughts anyone? Ps people using this forum for mindless comments should be ashamed.

Hello, same as you except left side! My diep reconstruction was a total disaster. Botched up mess. That’s surgery needs to be stopped. I have the same stomach issues and look preggers at 50...even though they went in and tried to repair the bulge with mesh. Oh well at least I got a few more years out of it to raise my kids.
Forget getting pain pills, those docs don’t want to give anything, sucks! If I could go back and change anything it would be NO reconstruction!

Have you gone to a pain treatment center. I had broken my left shoulder twice before breast cancer surgery with lymph node removed and radiation. I also have disc disease and severe arthritis. I was referred to a pain center and it has helped and changed my life. Unfortunately I have a new second primary cancer 6 years out in the same breast and need a mastectomy now. If I had to have this pain without help I would not do it. A life of pain is not life in my opinion. I feel bad for you living like that. I do not depend on opiods only but have many treatments which help so much. Of course I do not have small children to raise.

I had a sentinel lymphnode with my lumpectomy, i got a sernoma thst had 155cc of yellow fluid. Then 120 cc 4 days later. Then it went away sort of. There is still a hard lump in there. The back of my arm to my elbow is numb. I hace strings growing under my armpit skin. The incision and skin into my armpit is burning and itching.
I shaved at 5 weeks but cannot feel it. So it was like shaving someone else. The cords. Or web strings are the worst. And that wad just 3 lymphnodes removed. My breast is hard in places from the 3mm ductal carcinoma she removed and cut around my nipple.

Super itching under arms where nodes removed and there are swollen lumps there, too.

Expect severe pain for the rest of your life. It’s no fun if you rebuild houses and work on cars. I’m 5 years out from removal under right arm. Still breathing. I’m a veteran. The VA will not give pain meds to vets that ACTUALLY need them. Cant allow you to be come dependent on pain meds. Responsible VETS need pain meds. I had a prescription of 50 pain pills from April this year. It’s late October. Still have some left. They tell you take Tylenol.

It is ridiculous how people who need pain medication are treated as if their drug addicts. I work in healthcare and have seen people literally in tears from pain. They hang their heads in humiliation when they tell me how they are treated like second-class citizens or criminals for requesting pain meds.

Sorry for your pain. I’m 4 years post breast cancer surgeries and treatments and also living in pain. However, it’s not right to generalise. Not everyone will have forever pain and it’s not right to take away their hope. Even I have hope of being pain free.
