      I decided with this video to dedicate part of the time interviewing Ian since I had a unique chance to sit down with him while he was visiting from overseas. In the rest of the video I covered my favourite features: the new size options, the new material, the slick design, and the capture clip integration, and then showing the interior layout. For a full technical breakdown and all the details I'd recommend the vids over on the official Shimoda CZcams.

    I bought this backpack a few days ago and swiftly sent it back to the seller. Very tough zippers. The camera side access was so hard to open, the top pocket too. However the interior was beautiful and your gear will be protected very nicely. Compromises. The fitting on the body wasn’t very pleasant too. The backpack is kinda hard so there was a gap between my back and the backpack. I am 183cm tall, 68kg and I tried 30l version. Waiting for V2 or I will buy Action version. Cheers, Jana

    How tall are you? I've had a terrible time trying to find a good photography daypack. I'm 6'2" with broad shoulders and most bags are built for small frames and sit weirdly high on my back, distributing weight poorly.

    • @nomad0714
      @nomad0714 Před 7 měsíci

      @sjmheron,
      My brother is your height but backpacks don’t fit based on height and broad shoulders.
      I’m 5’8” and my torso is same length as his which is 21”. The 30l is 20.5”.
      I also struggle with brands like AERSF as they make 17”-19” packs and it fits on my back as if I was wearing a kids pack.
      Measure your torso and if it’s 19” or below, the 20l is good. Torso of 19”-20”, the 25l is good. And torso of 20” and above, the 30l is good.
      Other things to look for is comfort. This requires good shoulder straps, enough cushion and air vents in back panel, and load lifts so it’s not tilting you backwards with a heavy load. Shimoda nails this with all their backpacks.

      @@sjmheron, hahaha!
      Yeah it seems you two are opposite. You have a long torso and my brother has flamingo legs, he’s all legs. 😂
      Good luck with your backpack search. If you want larger sizes packs, check out Matador Globerider 45l (but more travel pack) and Wandrd Fernweh 50l (camera/adventure pack) which are for longer torsos. Also Shimoda has their Action 2 and Explorer 2 70l packs (also camera/adventure packs) that will fit you more with a longer torso.
      The Evergoods and AERSF are popular packs but for smaller torsos of 20” and below. They ride too high for my comfort and either returned, sold, or gave as hand me downs.

    • @AnthonyGugliotta
      @AnthonyGugliotta  Před 7 měsíci

      SO this is a challenge. I'm much shorter than you, but average width so I can get away with most bags. My recommendation would be to to try a bag with an adjustable torso height. Some of the other bags Shimoda makes have a vertical adjustment so you can get the pack sitting a bit better. Best thing to do is try one out at a camera store in person (if you can)

    • @sjmheron
      @sjmheron Před 7 měsíci

      @@AnthonyGugliotta thank you! I have adjustable bags for longer trips but smaller camera packs (for an 8 hour hike for example) don't seem to exist for taller people. I always have to take a 35-60L bag, which seems crazy. Slings hurt my shoulders after 8-10km with a camera body, two lenses, and a tripod and the uneven distribution sucks. I'd love a 15-20L bag for camera gear, water (bottles or hydration system), and a tripod that would fit me.

    Why a Urban series video taking in country side mainly? I don‘t see any real Urban shooting scenario.
    In fact, I‘m disappointed about this so called Urban series. It is just a muted outlook of other series. Yes, there is the smallest size 20L. But the side access is nothing improved. It still has the curved shape opening that just slowing the access. 10+ inches internal dimension is then NOT fully utilised because the curve sharpe door. By the way, who want lay flat the backpack on ground when shooting in Shibuya, Shinjuku, NYC or London? In fact, back access and side access are not conflicted. Just the side access stay not improve.
    Some of the camera backpack in the market equipped with longer length (support 2 bodies with lens attached) & more partical side access. They deserve more to be label as Urban.

    Im seeing a ton of these showcase videos, even from very small channels under 1000 subs, and I have yet to hear ANY criticism. Some people do say that they were not paid for the content, but no bag is absolutely perfect for everyone, and pretty much all the showcases/previews/'reviews' are nothing but positive which is extremely suspect.... even if the bag is good for you its not going to be perfect for every possible use case..
    Is there ANYTHING that is not great about the bag? Do the straps get uncomfortable after a day? Should there be a space for a hip belt, especially on the 30? Does the magnetic sternum strap stay closed? Is the material not as waterproof as their other bags? Is there an included rain cover, which I would expect for this price point? Is there a place to store a rain cover?
    With everyone's video pretty much only covering the marketing points with zero criticism this reeks of a Shimoda marketing campaign....
    I also generally dislike when established companies use kickstarter to launch new products.

    Looks like they just stole the design from peak design.

      Have tried both, the peak design feels a bit more bulky. Personally I don't like the access system in Peak Design which was the main reason I never used one as my main bag. I can see your point though!

      No way. Take a look at Shimoda's previous bags and you see the lineage. There's no comparison. Ian has been designing bags longer than Peak Design has been a company, and I'm a fan of both.

      I’m a big fan of Peak Design and have all their bags. I think Peak Design and Shimoda have very different concepts. Peak Design everyday backpacks don’t have the padding/protection for people like myself who babysit their gear. Their travel backpacks are well padded with their cubes, but are either too big or without side access, and they are not comfortable to carry. I ended up using only the everyday 30L when I don’t bring camera gear and Shimoda E35 V2 when I go out and shoot. This new Urban Explorer is gonna be perfect as an everyday pack with gear, I backed the 30L and I’m considering to order the 25L as well for different scenarios. It’s exciting to see more of these user inspired backpacks and will continue to support both brands if they come up with some cool new backpacks. I think PD is launching some new backpacks very soon.

    This is paid advertising trying to pass it off as a simple recommendation. Unsubscribed.

      Not sponsored. I was sent it early and made the video because I genuinely like the backpack.

      If you would had try Shimoda, you would not want any other bag. Even if this was paid advertising (so what?), these bags are outstanding.

      The things people get triggered about. What does matter if he gets paid or not paid. He can say no or yes to anyone that offers a paid advertising contract. Should be happy for Anthony that he’s growing his name and people are watching. Boo to you alioth7403!!

    $375 for this bag is a fucking joke... and thats for the smallest one. That kind of pricing is ridiculous.
