There's probably one of these videos to make about every Nintendo franchise and given the time, I'll probably make all of them. Kirby just seems like a natural fit because people don't expect it to be scary. Ironically, Metroid was a pretty perfect fit because it is a little scarier naturally. Mario could be fun, just talk about the Super Mario Galaxy shadows for 15 minutes.

Kirby is a good example of what Don Bluth once said: "Kids can handle anything as long as it has a happy ending."
They'll just have issues when they're 33 and watching SCARY KIRBY VIDEOS.
Yup. This kid handled it fiiiiiiiiiine.
Help.
Hey, I’ve been playing these games since I was like 6 and I came out just fine.
@@jamesonshekmeister I played Doom and Mortal Kombat when I was 6.
@@asmodeus58XX HOW
Says the guy who made me weep my eyes out at the end of All Dogs Go To Heaven! Oh wait, even that had an upbeat song in the credits. WELL FUCK EVERYTHING THEN!
Besides, he also made The Secret of NIMH and that is the scariest thing he's made. Don't think I'll forget that fact!
“Why did I ever choose to activate such a horrible machine? …Oh, I remember. I just wanted to see her one more time. How foolish. I should have known that no machine could make that wish come true.”
“All of Haltmann’s *memories have been deleted* from the OS. Even his soul-the last trace of Haltmann-has vanished. Star Dream has gone from a near-perfect being to a cold, mindless machine.”
It did make his wish come true, but stardream was essentially a monkey’s paw, so be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.
@@weirdalexander8193
I think the implication is that Susie wasn’t killed in that accident, only sent away. So the reason Star Dream didn’t fulfill his wish is because she wasn’t dead to begin with, and he never knew it.
@@enlongjones2394 Correct. Susie was merely teleported to Another Dimension, the same one Kirby and co. venture into in RtDL and Star Allies. We know this because the pause description for Holo-Doomers 2.0 state that they were based on Susie's field report on them when she traveled to Another Dimension. As for how long she was trapped inside there and how she get back is up for debate. Personally my headcanon is that she most likely hitched a ride back home with Magolor and the Lor Starcutter, since there's a chance you can see the Lor while fighting Galacta Knight (it has a chance to appear in his attack where he rips a tear into Another Dimension).
Nova: Am I a joke to you
Somehow, despite all of these, Kirby is still the scariest thing in the franchise. Conceptually at least.
The fact that Kirby is basically a purified baby version of some sort of omnipotent Eldritch Abomination is its way cooler and scarier than it has any right to be.
Kirby, eater of worlds, the endless void
A reminder that Kirby has taken on more Eldritch horrors than Samus. let that sink in.
Well Kirby may just be an Eldritch horror
Yes, but has he taken on the badass and handsome Raven Beak?
@@The94Venom “Kirby, you may have infinite power, but that mysterious and handsome rogue Raven Beak has infinite plus power, and would surely squash you like a ant, even at your full capabilities! A anonymous source has also granted me information on how Raven Beak is a long running winner of the Gourmet Race, and could surely out-eat and outrun you in the sport!”
@@AAZ-yu5ss - Adam, probably
correction, Kirby takes out more Eldritch horror than Samus during her entire Bounty Hunter carrer on a casual thuesday
My favorite thing about Void Termina is that it goes in the opposite direction most Kirby games do with “Soul” bosses. The main story ends with Void Soul and the True Arena ends with just Void.
The fact that the boss has Kirby’s face while using attacks from Dark Mind, Drawcia Soul, and Zero is also… concerning. Not mention how beating Void unlocks Classic Kirby/Kirb and Void is white like the GB games and has snippets of that old chiptune in the last phase of the fight if you don’t KO it fast enough.
Let’s not forget the fact that in the final phase of Soul Of Sectonia, Queen Sectonia RIPS HER HEAD OFF just to have another chance to fight you.
Sectonia is like that guy who is too resilient
Oddly enough, I think Kirby is the perfect introduction to children to the concept of cosmic horror.
Sometimes I think us kirby fans overstate the "dark" aspects of the franchise, then I remember Zero's bloody eye ripping itself out of its body as a last ditch effort to kill kirby and President haltmann's screams as the last of his soul is erased by star dream and then I stop thinking that.
Also We've known that Humanity is dead in the Kirby Universe since Kirby 64, Shiver Star is literally a dead frozen Earth. So i think Kirby and the Forgotten Land takesplace somewhere else, Maybe the Ancient's home world.
You’re not wrong when you said that some (keyword) Kirby fans tend to overhype how dark the series.
Kirby getting dark isn’t really that special at first since other game franchises have gone the same road, however it’s the contrast between Kirby’s lighthearted nature and the abomination at the end that makes Kirby a little more significant.
adeleine and samus are the only humans who appeared so far
“Kirby is for little kids!”
Kirby fans: *thats where you’re wrong kiddo!*
An Adorable pink sphere that murders eldritch monstrosities, sounds like a demon from an SMT game.
Butu no, it's kirby.
Fitting pfp
Gotta get them introduced early to empower them for other franchise horrors.
Surprised with Void, you didn't mention how in the True True Final Boss of the game's Ultimate Challenge becomes Astral Birth Void, which has the description read "The final battle at hand, Void takes his first steps toward a new age. In place of tyrannical rage, will he find... naptime? Gentle breezes? Treats? He may even dream again... a dream of friends reunited!", truly indicating this could be where Kirby comes from, including that the song includes Green Green in a somber part.
and also that Void is the primordial chaos according to one of the Japanese Descriptions.
The soul melter ex description implies even more that Kirby is the reincarnation of a destroyer or worlds
@@lazyryan3766 Explains his sheer power at least.
There’s a connection that All the bosses and villains we faced(specifically dark matter and dark nebula) are born from negative energy. That’s where void comes from. However, they are reincarnated from the positive energy which is everything Kirby has.
And when you think about it, when you first meet void's soul it bears a STRIKING resemblance to Kirby with the face
That wasnt marx soul in smash, its just regular marx. Sakurai had no involvement with kirby at the time of super star ultras release either and he was talking about normal marx having the creepier design
This video will be sponsor by Nightmare Enterprises.
More of them later!

Once Void showed its true face, that's when most people realized the Kirby lore wasn't going to stay in the background.
I think the dripping aesthetic is meant to mimic melting. Which for a living creature, is pretty unsettling, and helps show how otherworldly the bosses end up at the end.
My first Kirby game was Star allies and I have to say, as someone who had no prior knowledge about this franchise outside smash, going from befriending cute little characters going to the utter lovecraftian madness that it ended up being, caught me a little off guard.
The fact that the giant sentient eyeball that attacks you by cutting itself and eventually ripping its own iris out is at the bottom of the list says a lot about this franchise really
I love the Kirby series for how utterly out of left field things can come.
Luckily, Kirby sends it right back at them.
Don't you mean...Right Back At Ya!
Kirby after fighting Void Termina's final form: WHAT AM I?!!!
I would like to say, Kirby's Stomach is its own dimension, so yes if the Ridge Wallet can survive space it would be fine
9:12 That's not Marx Soul, it's just regular Marx, and Sakurai mentioned that Only for Marx (but we have no idea if he was referring to Ultimate's version or the SNES version, as he hasn't been involved in anything from HAL since 2003)
Kirby is like…sorta a representation of what it’s like to mature.
Things are innocent on the surface as your mind develops. However, the deeper you dig and more you peer into the void…you see how…horrifying things can be.
Hearing Marx Soul's scream through my DS speakers was enough to traumatize me for a while...
Same here.
You could say Void brings things...full circle. ;)
Also, fun fact about Drawcia Soul: this is the first instance of a Soul boss in Kirby games, and the ONLY instance thus far of it being the final phase of the final boss of the main story instead of the True Arena sub games. I only recently played through Canvas Curse and...yeah...gotta say, World of Drawcia is kinda fucked up; like, admittedly, the theme can be kinda migraine inducing, but when you delve in to the implications of this world and its sterile, empty theme, it paints a very sinister image on what WILL happen to ALL worlds if you don't stop Drawcia here and now! O.O
Wasn't Magalor Soul a the final boss of the main story as well?
Ahh nvm just checked, it was the final boss of the extra mode
@@dadekuscrub2040 I do love how Kirby games, when they ramp up the difficulty, don't just give the boss a new skin and make them faster; they actually give the bosses new attacks and change up their patterns, thus you have to learn a brand new boss. That's something I admire with the boss design in Kirby games and why I feel Kirby rarely ever delivers a bad game; hell, imho, the WORST Kirby has ever done was just being mediocre, which if that's the WORST Kirby can do, that speaks volumes of the quality of the franchise and why I love it so much! :D
I think Kirby himself could work as a horror movie character with a few tweeks honestly.
Maybe it could work as an horror parody of ET. Take Brightburn as an example of how to do it, as it is a horror parody of Superman, by making him some sort of slightly ugly looking but innocent and clumsy alien, and slowly make things spiral out of control.
@@LordofSadFac That would work!
I don’t know how but that sounds cool
In contrast with "dark/disturbing Mario moments" lists, I haven't seen that many for Kirby. Maybe it's because there are a lot of "obvious" candidates but, I wouldn't really know.
Then again I can't tell if "scariest moments in Kirby" lists would be more or less repetitive than a list for Mario on the same topic...
I feel there would be more moments in Mario, just by virtue that there are MANY more Mario games than Kirby games, and that alone would give Mario more opportunities for scary/disturbing moments. That, and Kirby games generally only get creepy late-game or as bonus post-game content. So while Kirby games get like 1-2 moments per game, Mario has the potential for many more, depending on how heavily you wanna interpret things going on in each game.
@@SolstaceWinters Ah, that makes sense.
I guess thought there would be a few levels or moments that could have made people jump from before the ends of Kirby games. But chances are those moments might not be considered "scary".
And in contrast with the number of Mario games, yeah, it really might not fair to compare the two. Fair point.
If this was made now, I feel like a certain abomination and Angel would be on this list
Kirby feels like a game where you play as a plucky hero that manages to kill lovecraftian monsters, but kirby really is a god himself, that I kinda feel like the villains are the underdogs
Yeah I think we got a new contender for the top spot.
About Void Termina.
YES KIRBY IS ANOTHER VOID TERMINA! This has been confirmed. And also is IMMORTAL.
Infact the pure hearts are all fragments of Termina, so is 02 and several of the other bad guys Kirby faces.
But heres the twist. The pink heart that hits Kirby at the intro is a GOOD FRAGMENT OF VOID!
It is revealed Void Termina isn't good or evil. It depends how he is summoned. Considering the cult who summoned him was VENGEFULL for being sealed away and forgotten... Void Termina became evil. Things like 0 are the darkness of void that is done by those who have hatred. But if a void termina is summoned while with good in the heart... you get Kirby...
But Meta Knight is a black Kirby right? Yes he is. And guess what.. he is probaly a neutral void termina. Probaly summoned by someone strong and wise.
And what about Galacta Knight and Morpho Knight? Same thing... Void Terminas summoned and fragmented.
There is still enough unexplained.. but Void Termina is the god that shaped the Master Crown, The civilisation surrounded by it that made the Star Rod, Heart Rod, Lore Starcutter and more.
And there is even more implications like alternate dimensions and such. But Void Termina in the end.. is the NATURAL END OF THE UNIVERSE! ...Kirby... inhaling.. is infact... the imploding force of the universe ending. YIKES!
More the opposite while negative voids are more the end
This must be explored in future Kirby games...
i think it made a lot of kirby-like species
Aren’t they star warriors
@@Cashk28 No that's an anime only term.
In actual canon there are no "Star Warriors"
Just Galacta Knights. (Like the actual Galacta Knight and Meta Knight)
Kirby star allies brought cults, suicide, sacrifice, and abuse into a E for everyone game.
That's what makes kirby star allies such a good game.
it really helped put it back in perspective for me when i got to the ending and realized the very heavy-handed implication of shiver star being a snowy, robot-covered post-apocalypse version of earth isn't even something i'd really put over any of these for this top 5
"Starting to think we're not 100% the good guy here" well considering Kirby is implied to be a sort of Eldritch being...
Well, Kirby ISN'T the good guy. He only ever fights the bad guys because they keep messing with him or his friends. Yeah, he's sweet and helpful to his friends, but he's at best lawful neutral. "I'll do whatever I can to help my friends, eat cake, and have wonderful naps." You're not a hero, you're a baby Elder god throwing a tantrum.
He goes on a murderous rampage because some mice stole his cake.
@@adamloga3788 He goes after Dynabird for waking him up from a nap. Though he also did notice other damage she was doing, so he had some slight other motive.
He does have a habbit of befriending the people he fight after he beats them. Dedede, Meta Knight, Dynabird, etc etc...
And he stops as soon as he gets his cake back. Like I said, baby Elder God throwing a tantrum.
@@adamloga3788 Well he stops after defeating a rival Elder God.
Also, it's kind of fun to think about the implication that Void also creates of being connected to the Dark Matters (specially because the lore dump the Cult Leader throws, Void taking attacks of several Dark-related enemies and the subtle nods to Dream Land 3 in Astral Birth Void's introduction)
Well guess Halloween and horror isn't over yet lol. It's amazing how Kirby a friendly cute little protagonist with some light hearted gameplay can have some pretty dark scary and WTF moments. Especially when it comes to the many final levels and bosses. Nightmare, the dark matters, zero 2, drawcia, etc.
I was jamming out to some video game music and youtube, as it does, recommended a random video vaguely related to what I was listening to (Celeste's soundtrack at the time). It suggested Kirby Star Allies's "Astral Soul Void" theme. Now I love Kirby games, but I haven't played one since Return to Dreamland (with Magalor). So I was out of the loop for a while. But while jamming to this theme, it started shifting to an 8-bit theme, that sounded freakishly close to the original Kirby (Gameboy) theme. And I'd already heard that the boss had a bit that looked like Kirby in it, leading to wild theory-crafting.
But this single moment has led me down a spiral of trying to catch up on kirby games, playing through them as best as I can, with friends as possible. (My sister and I just beat Amazing Mirror again, on refurbished GBAs my brother upgraded). I *AM* stuck in the Kirby Lore spiral, and I'm enjoying playing these again. Just need to find a means to play Rainbow Curse, Robobot, Triple Star Deluxe, and Star Allies.
The scariest Kirby moment is the bad ending from Kirby 64. It only lasts a moment, but sometimes, less is more.
What a great franchise Kirby is.
So who's excited for the next horror Kirby abomination. I mean new Kirby game. Well.....yeah we're all expecting the new horror night terror antagonist for it even more.
Twenty bucks it’s a guy who basically says, “Oh how far you came, SON” and Kirby has to basically fight his papa
I'm suprised he didn't go over how Shiver Star is just a post apocliptic earth
Doesn't seem to be the only one from what we see in the new Kirby game trailer
Can't wait for whatever the new Kirby game was called to have the explanation why humans were wiped out, given the fact the setting seems to be a post-post-apocalyptic earth.
I don't think that's Earth in The Forgotten Lands, hell it could actually be the remnants of the city from Air Ride's City Trial.
Plus it's safe to assume humanity wasn't wiped out if Adeleine exists, she's a human who traveled to Pop Star to practice her art. If she exists, then there's a chance humanity was able to find other habitable planets to colonize on.
@@FrahdChikun isn't Samus also part of the kirby universe I remember fighting methods in kirby.
13:41 Huh. I never noticed Hyness and the Three Sages in the background in that fight until Rabbidluigi pointed it out.
Yeah... people always underestimate just how messed up Kirby deep lore is. There's a reason this little pink puffball is one of the most powerful video game characters of all time. He looks unassuming but this little guy is a killer of gods.
So… how bout that Kirby and the Forbidden Land final boss. 😐
One can only wonder what Forgotten Land will give us next for Kirby. :)
One thing about Star Dream Soul OS is when you destroy all the pillars, the pause description changes.
Earlier in the fight, the description is this.
"The final program has been activated. Its calculated victory probability is 99.9%. However, a small part of Haltmann's soul is yet to be purged, which could throw a wrench in its plans.”
But when you destroy all the pillars, it changes to this.
"All of Haltmann's memories have been deleted from the OS. Even his soul--the last trace of Haltmann--has vanished. Star Dream has gone from a near-perfect being to a cold, mindless machine."
So yeah, Kirby wipes Haltmann from existence. It's really messed up.
Serves him right, though.
If this video is any indication, then I can’t wait to fight an eldritch abomination at the end of Kirby and the Forgotten Land.
"And here we are!"
What new horrors will the new Kirby game bring us near the end?
I remember hearing a theory that Kirby and void termina are the same cosmic god like species, the difference between the two being that Kirby was formed of positive energy, and void from negative. And In the soul melter EX battle against void, the pause menu text speaks of snacks and naps, implying that Kirby is fighting to save void and give it a happier life.
Sakurai has some demons behind those friendly-looking eyes
no, he only worked on 4 games. Kumazaki has demonds behind this friendly eyes of kirby
@@GarryDKing And Shimomura. He was the one that gave us the Dark Matter Saga from Dream Land 2 through 64.
If you do jump down that Kirby lore rabbit hole you find out that Kirby is a pseudo Lovecraftian god. Except instead of being made of madness and cruelty(Void Termina), he's instead made of love and goodness.
I played kirby superstar ultra when I was pretty young, and nothing in the series yet has matched the terror I felt when I tried to inhale a scarfy and it transformed into a one eye’d monster.
I’m not scared of scarfies anymore, but in comparison to the soul bosses… I’ve seen worse.
Top 5 games that were pulled from stores
What if the world of Kirby is actually just the inside of Kirby and everything he consumes doesn't get deleted from existence, but instead just comes back, because his inside is the world
Or something
Oh but the rabbit hole goes much deeper, of anyone is interested in the subject the "what is Kirby canon?" series of videos by meteorz is a must watch, in particular the one about void termina, which gets darker that what is shown here
Really sets the tone of the video, when the GIANT BLEEDING EYEBALL is only number 5.
Tbf, Earth is already destroyed in the Kirby universe. And Kirby is in fact a split part of the ultimate evil horror in the world.
Kirbo infamous words that will send shivers down your spine.
"Poyo!"
Star Allies: *gives us the big, scary Void*
Forgotten Land: hold my beer
Lets say
Its all shaped like a circle
yeeeah~ you keep forgetting that Kirby, the cute pink puffball has some of the visually creepy main antagonists in Nintendo's library of villains! grant it, games like Metroid or even Pikmin have some very unsettling opponents, but those kind of lean you into those, more so one than the other, but Kirby kind of just has this cute factor up till the final bosses and even the harder boss rush mode where it goes from like a 2 to 3 to a 1,000! i think the first time i saw something alittle off in Kirby was Crystal Shard cause Zero in that is pretty ****ing freaky!
don't say Nintendo can't pull off creepy. they have for years.
Hal Labs really waited until after this video to drop Fecto Forgo on us 🙃🙃
And now, in Forgotten Land, we literally have the Cathedral of Flesh from the end of Akira, which eats your friend and becomes God, or alternatively Kars from Jojo.
Kirby was made the villain in the web series there will be brawl because the creators recognized that he eats his enemies and wears their faces afterwards.
Kirby's stomach is the only thing that can rival the ridge wallet when it comes to storage capacity
7:15 yeah thats accurate, after my first real Kirby game (64) I just accepted thats what all Kirby bosses were like, I didn't even question it
"And here we are."
“And here we are!”
"aND hERe wE ArE!"
"iD-f86!"
This video’ll need an update now that Forgotten Land is out
im surprised you didnt dive deeper to explain Void, which is the true final boss in Star Allies, which even its theme gives you the impression you're dealing with none other than a "Kirby" that has not been, well, for a lack of a better term, "Matured"
The newest kirby has the scariest one for me with the blob thing
3:25 gotta love the horror
Pretty accurate list. The only scary moment I would add is at the end of Kirby 64 Crystal Shards. If you fail to get all the crystal shards when you beat the game, you get an ending cutscene where everything seems happy and Kirby leaves the planet and its kingdom waving goodbye-- but then after Kirby is gone, the princess the ruler of the entire kingdom suddenly turns to you (not kirby but YOU) with a demonic smile stretching apart her cheek and the music tinges to horror. The screen fades to happy credits. That scared the crap out of me as a kid.
Kirby has always been a really dark series.
THANK YOU for mentioning Void Termina and World of Drawcia for this video! You just blessed my day for mentioning two of my favorite bosses! Same with Zero-Two as well!
I can think of waaaaaay more than 5 lmao. Goes to show how Kirby is actually a cosmic horror game franchise in disguise.
Very intrigued by the setting of Forgotten Land, given that we've seemingly already seen what became of Earth in the Kirby universe. Shiver Star, a planet coated in ice and snow, trapped in eternal winter, looks exactly like Earth, even orbited by the Moon.
Kirby in 3D next Year! Can’t wait
7:14 listen son, I am a teenager that loves horror. I can handle any horror element in a Kirby game. Every time a mainline Kirby game comes out, I will play it from the 1st level to the final boss on the day of its release.
You left out the most terrifying Kirby moment...
In Super Kirby Clash, spending REAL MONEY on Gem Apples!!
Kirby is a alien-
Me- more like a celestial god of destruction
#1 Realising that there's nothing you can do, Kirby is invincible is Kirby wishes to devour you all you have is time before the inevitable.
Kirby was the first Nintendo thing that I saw creepy stuff about. Before Metroid, Mario, and even Zelda. I think it's because it contrasts the most.
How can I help you, Rabbidluigi?
I NEED A MONSTA TO CLOBBA DAT DERE KIRBEH!
Eldritch abomination or existential nightmare?
......how about a giant turtle? Works with Mario....
Watching all these lore vids is making me more hyped for Forgotten Land ^^
void termina...
watch the text when you put pause in his fight, watch his smile when he die in his ultimate form, Astral birth void, and you all understand.
And here we are.
And now we can add Fecto forgo transformation and HERE WE ARE!
8:00 fun fact: Marx is actually just called Mark in Japan
And Here We Are!
Nah and now we got Fecto Forgo
With Void Termina, when you fight him the second and third time in the second highest and highest difficulty in the ultimate choice it brings up even more questions as well. The second time around you fight void soul which is a bit more like Zero and Dark Matter, and the third time with Astral Birth Void, it brings a lot of the Zero out. When you defeat it, you unlock the original kirby skin. I always wondered about Astral Birth Void, since it seemed like if it were to learn to have positive emotions, would it become Kirby, and if it learned negative emotions, would it become Zero?
Me see Kirby then: Awww how cute
Me see Kirby now: Okay let's see some scary stuff
Thank God I knew of Marx Soul before, but the Ear Rape Scream being shown multiple times?! Overkill!
For number 1, you forgot to mention the pause description for the true arena version
A note about Void Termina: in the True true Arena (since the game had an extra on added after the final update which is FREAKING HARD MIND YOU and also not called The Arena but whatever), Void Termina's true form aka the Kirby face is white and just known as Void. There's a point during the music theme where Greens Greens is played, which is the franchise's principal leitmotif and can be considered Kirby's theme. It's implied that if Void Termina becomes good... you get Kirby. If not.. you get Dark Matter or something? Kirby lore is amazing and I can't wait for The Forgotten Land next year
rabbidluigi you forgot one moment in Kirby 64 when you first enter ripple star catacombs that moment is ligitamutly haunting
Haha. You really didn't even touch on void termina that much. It *is* kirby, it's a kirby born of hatred and anger unable to feel any emotions other than rage and the desire to destroy. That's truly the scariest part of this is seeing what would have happened had Kirby not been born on a place as cute and cuddly as dreamland.
Kirby is basically a black hole. Not even light can escape a black hole. Let that sink in for a minute
Two Halloween countdowns this year.
Nice.
Headcanon:
Modern Kirby and OG Kirby are not the same Kirby and Void Termina/Void is OG Kirby.
Evidence:
• You unlock OG Kirby upon beating the True Arena on Max Difficulty.
• Snippets of Green Greens from Kirby's Dreamland from the GBA can be heard in the background of the final phase of Void's boss fight in True Arena.
• Void's color scheme during the Campaign is vaguely similar to Kirby (it's most prominently pink and fuchsia) while it's appearance during the True Arena is white, black and grey. You know who else was white, black, and grey during their first adventure?
That's what I have so far. There's probably more things pointing towards this being the case, but I've yet to come across it yet.
