      I mean, Kubo simply said the person under Complete Hypnosis wouldn't be able to see the "true" image/video, not that a camera would be fooled by it. It seems Aizen's illusions do only work on living beings, but even if someone were to try to use a camera, it would be useless without someone else who isn't under Aizen's sway.

      Hey Tommo, this is a question for u or probably more like a lingering thought of mine but have u ever thought of why Yumichika is able to wield a Shikai (Fuji kujaku) which isn't his REAL Shikai but yet he can easily switch to his true Shikai (Ruri'iro Kujaku) and utilize the different abilities of both his real and fake Shikai? I personally like to think that each soul reaper is capable of pulling off a similar feat just as how Ichigo is able to now switch from his original butcher's knife Zangetsu to his dual Zangetsu that we see in tybw. I initially thought of it back when I saw Ichigo training to reach Bankai and Zangetsu summoned a graveyard of different blades and asked Ichigo to find the real Zangetsu. I assume that Yumichika did something similar which lead him to be able to use the 2 forms of his Shikai and also their separate abilities which also leads me to think that its possible for a soul reaper to have various abilities simply by changing the form of their Zanpakto and now that I think about it, Renji pulled off something similar with his original Bankai Hihio Zabimaru and his true Bankai So Oh Zabimaru but what do u think?

    I think it's more like this: because they are under the illusion of Kyoka Suigetsu, they are seeing that same illusion depicted on the photograph. If Aizen decided to stop showing them the illusion, they would no longer see it on the photograph because it was never there in the first place.

    • @Fusseliko
      @Fusseliko Před 19 dny +41

      Thats how I understood it. It's hypnosis, it doesn't create an illusion in reality, it alters the affected persons perception. This would also mean that Aizen should still avoid situations in which his illusion is filmed/photographed, because any third person not under the effect would see the real picture and might notice that there is something off with peoples' perception.
      For example, if Soul Society had photography technology and did a proper modern documentation of the crime scene and his body when he faked his death, they would have taken a picture of the body and shown it to the captured Ryoka, the prime suspects, who would've been very confused as to why they're being confronted with a photo that everyone insists has Aizens body on it but literally doesn't. If one of the smarter captains was heading that type of investigation, they would've found that very suspicious.

      @@Fusseliko Pardon a little Fanfiction citation but in one story I read, a character had the power of Kyoka Suigetsu and they stated that the ability to alter the senses of many people from a distance meant that the difficulty and power of Kyoka Suigetsu was related to how much its user can divide their attention. Example: I use this comment to put you under Kyoka Suigetsu, I would know what you are seeing, smelling, hearing, tasting, and feeling. Even if you move to close the page, I can see that and make you hit the subscribe button instead with you being none the wiser. You can then to message someone and I would know that might give away Kyoka Suigetsu so I deceive you with an illusion that you are but in reality you are talking to air, unable to properly communicate with anyone what is happening.For every person reading this comment, I have to do the same until my mind cannot take the strain and that is Kyoka Suigetsu's difficulty curb. At least, that is the argument concerning the power and limitations of Kyoka Suigetsu raised by that story I found. I find these power theories I see in different stories quite fascinating like the fact Kyoka Suigetsu's bankai might deceive reality of Aizen's death and no one has killed him so that is why it is unknown.

    To answer the question of how a random Shinigami in the 4th division didn't figure out the trick, there is a simple explanation. Aizen said to Sui-feng that he was a teacher at the academy. He was also very popular prior to his betrayal. So it's not a stretch to claim that Aizen gave regular "demonstrations" of how a released Zanpakuto works, thus hypnotizing students who may or may not rise in the ranks of the Gotei.

      Its like you prepare for a intwerview and the interview happens exactly like you prepared for. That is weird. No weird questions, nothing random, nothing unusally. That is weird.
      But that doesnt change anything for you or her when fighting Aizen. Even if you know that Aizen fights exactly like you expacted him to fight, doesnt change the fact that you can break out of his hypnosis. If I tell you the lie that my weird shirt costs $200, whether you see it again in person or in a photo/video, you'll still recognize it as the $200 shirt. You've been affected directly. When Aizen faked his murder, Kyoka Suigetsu told everyone the lie of "this is Aizen's corpse." I always assumed that if Aizen ever used his Bankai then as a tradeoff for whatever its utterly broken ability undoubtedly is (be that reality warping, trapping an opponent within an illusory world inside their own mind, etc.), then everyone he's ever placed under his Shikai would be released from its effects, like a house of cards falling. Thus Aizen might have to manually place them all back under its hypnosis once again (somewhat like how Soya Azashiro releasing Urozakuro meant that he would have to take the time to slowly fuse himself with all of Seireitei all over again).
    I wouldn't even be surprised if Aizen releasing his Bankai permanently rendered everyone already under his Shikai's Hypnosis permanently immune to his Shikai from then on as a consequence (additionally I believe that Aizen's Bankai was implied to only be able work on someone already under his Shikai's Perfect Hypnosis; which if my theory is correct means he could only ever use it on someone once). In other words; once Aizen uses his Bankai, all of his illusions come to an end.
    This makes the most sense to me as a sort of "counterbalance" to the fact that anyone placed under Aizen's Shikai will permanently remain under its influence, regardless of how much time has passed. So for Aizen, he might simply have no real need to use his Bankai outside of some extremely specific, nice circumstance (especially given how useful Kyoka Suigetsu was to his plans), somewhat like how Yoruichi is stronger fighting with Hakuda than using her Zanpakuto at all. It must be a final, last ditch trump card for Aizen.

    • @thermitekitty9070
      @thermitekitty9070 Před 19 dny +19

      Fully agreed. If Shikai is the ideal self and Bankai is the true self, then his Shikai reflects the slow-burn master of deception and control that Aizen wants to be, and his Bankai should reflect that his end goal wasn't to deceive his way onto the throne, but to punch a hole in the sky and fistfight the entire Zero Division by himself until he got to the Soul King. That would also fit his changes under the power of the Hogyoku. He didn't gain more illusion power, he just gained more and more raw strength.

    Kyoka Suigetsu's power isn't really based on illusions at all, it's power is hypnosis, it makes the affected victims mind see what he wants them to see, unaffected viewers don't see anything different because there's no illusion outside of the victims mind. If you think about it this way the picture/video thing makes sense, their mind has been told through the hypnosis to ignore that scene and replace it with whatever Aizen wanted, it doesn't matter weather you're looking at it first hand or looking at it through a screen, your mind is still overriding what your eyes see with what it was hypnotized to see instead.

    Kyoka Suigetsu, at least at 4:24, is not broken at all, and Kubo's explanations make perfect sense.
    We can imagine Kyoka Suigetsu working as some kind of reality lense; a layer of sorts that is placed over someone's consciousness. Because of this, everything the person experiences will be subject and affected by the Illusion by default.
    Powerful, but reasonable.

  • @christopherg2347
    @christopherg2347 Před 19 dny +5

    Kyoka Suigetsu:
    - I always found it clear that it affects the persons mind directly. It is about the only way the illusion would not work on Ichigo - his mind was never properly "tagged" to be affected.
    - Captain Aizens corpse was _of course_ under guard. He was a murder victim and a captain. You don't let "random nurses" into the same room!
    His corpse would also be transported while covered to maintain his dignity. Probably in one of those covered carriers. And not by some random smucks, but a dedicated group.
    Just some basic knowledge of the Soul Societies captain corpse transport and murder investigation procedure and some aimed exposure of Kyoka Suigetsu covers that.
    - the photo already taken would change, if Aizen wants the photo to change. Seeing a photo is not different then seeing the person directly. He can probably choose if he only wants to affect "current image" or "all depictions", to maintain continuity. With the former being much easier.
    - I want to re-itterate, that the only reason it is that broken is his power.
    Soifons marks used to "disappear after a while". You can bet Aizens Suigetsu marks did as well. And it probably did not cover all senses from the start. But he has simply outgrown that power level.
    Noitoras Zankatou:
    - "Most captains control the size of ther Zanpaktou. Otherwise, they would have to wield swords the size of Skyscrapers".
    Most Espada probably do the same. Only Noitora and Barragan seem like they wanted to "let loose" a bit here. Resulting in unwieldy weapons.
    But personally I think that is a sign of weakness/not fully accepting the Shinigami transformation.
    Kido Corp:
    - Why the secrecy? You mean besides spells that _literally stop time_ in a limited area?
    Some of their Kido are probably like nuclear secrets - you don't want them to proliferate!
    Consider that Aizen was still using "Hado 90 - Kurohitsugi" even in his moth form. Just think how much worse he would have been with access to secret and forbidden Kido.
    Secrets Tessai would not even teach Kisuke for the fights.
    Secrets like how to curse a clan to half-wolf hood?
    - It makes sense that all the numbered Kido spells are from them. Those a the "standartized stuff" you can teach in the Academy.
    But in turn, they don't have Zanpaktuo.
    - Kisuke and Ichibei might be on the level where they can invent Kido on their own.
    But it is also likely the Kido Corp was the original army of the soul king, before the Zanpaktuo were forged, so at least their Captain had "visitation rights/duties".
    Someone put up a self-regenerating 30+ layer barrier around the soul kings palace.

    i think the problem lies in thinking of aizens ability in terms of the phisical changes it makes (i.e. changing what someone sees in a photo). While i cant speak towards the passive control or lack of control that aizen has over the after effects of the illusion, i can say that aizens ability doesnt effect the phisical world, but rather the perception of it. This means that his ability is akin to mind control. The only difference is that he affects perception and not desicion making.

If you take a picture of an illusion, the picture will look to you like the illusion because that is what your brain believes that space consists of. Rather than altering an inanimate object. If they saw the sword lying there instead of his body, they would be immediately hypnotized and blink and see the body.

I look at his ability to simply be implanting a immovable suggestion into ones mind. With a simple suggestion of “I’am not here”, your mind will no longer process any sense of him being there, even if you take a picture and look at it your brain still processes everything through that filter and so therefore your unable to see/feel/smell/hear him in the picture either because your brain is unable to process the chemical triggers delivered from your eyes/skin/ears to your brain to recognize his being in that place at any moment in time after the command/suggestion.

    While that is a focus, it requires suggestions to adjust what the illusions are. Once the suggestion is given, its largely the mind of the person giving the illusion. The brain will overwrite the senses to show whar it expects, just as your eyes block out excess shapes such as your nosez glasses, etc.

    For Aizen, his power is described as complete hypnosis (complete control over the senses by extension). So it stands to reason his power affects perception and not the "object" itself. Imo, changing how that "object" is viewed should not have an impact on how the target perceives it.

    The thing that still boggles my mind is how Kyoka Suigetsu can somehow mess with someone’s sense of time like with Yhwach. What senses does Aizen need to specifically target to pull that off? I always felt that keeping track of time is something separate from the normal five senses what boggles my mind is that is somehow able to mess with your sense of time. Yep, it’s not like you had to watch it like U-Haul or to watch them. How do you do that? what the fuck? When should I come over, it’s hard. You need to target had a site help you if you feel like five minutes seeing you.

      My thought is that Aizen must imagine an illusion that is then projected to the minds of all affected by Kyoka Suigetsu, rather than Aizen tailoring specific personalized illusions instantly in the moment all the while tinkering with individual senses one by one for everyone individually. Especially if this effect works on photographs as well, which the person under the illusion sees in some indefinite future time, which would be an occurrence that Aizen wouldn't even know about at the time of casting the illusion. Given that, and given that Kyoka Suigetsu doesn't change reality itself, Aizen couldn't be directly effecting the actual sensory inputs, but the interpretative process of their "senses". Meaning Kyoka Suigetsu would be overriding peoples very ability to interpret sense data and substituting that by a projection of Aizen's choosing.

    I've always been under the impression that Kyoka Suigetsu is not 'enviroment manipulation' but a 'mind manipulation' instead.
    It's complete hypnosis so the "illusion" is not actually projected into the environment but to the mind itself.
    so even if a photo could capture the real thing, the target will still see what he was hypnotized to see.

    -Aizen was a teacher at the academy and pretty popular, may have made tons of demonstrations of Kyoukasuigestu for different reasons
    -We learned in the hell chapter the corpse of a captain is basically Soul Society's equivalent of nuclear waste, it'd make sense it would have very restricted access
    -Less likely due to how he present it, but Aizen may have pulled the same thing as during the Vizard flashback and actually made a fake corpse with Kyoukasuigetsu on top

    Kyoka Suigetsu doesn't have to work on inanimate objects, take different case of psychosis for exemple, some may be able to tell they're having halucination by filming it or looking at a reflection but some cases have their brains able to twist around enough so that they see the halucinations even through something (I know it well, I, myself have a conditions that give me halucinations and I can't cheat my brain like others I've met). Aizen's shikai just affect you without him thinking about it and your brain does the job. (also on the subject of what happen if you look back at something you know false I personally never tried out of fear because every person I know who did had very bad migraines and panic attacks doing so)

    Kyoka Suigetsu isn't so much illusion as mind control; it tells the brain how to interpret sensory data in accord with Aizen's whims. The photograph would capture the true image, but someone under the spell would perceive what they were programmed to. It may be possible that someone who didn't have the context for the image would perceive it correctly, but if they knew what it was supposed to be, that would trigger the hypnotic suggestion.

  • @evilgeek87
    @evilgeek87 Před 19 dny +2

    I think the confusion around Aizen's power is the issue of the difference between perception and objective reality of the is such a thing. Kyoka Suigetsu doesn't change the physical reality or properties of an object, just it's victim's perception, hence if one has been hypnotized to see one person as another, e.g. everyone seeing Momo as Aizen, they will see Momo as Aizen no matter how they are seeing her; a photo of Momo will look like Aizen, as would video, even her voice would sound like Aizen's in an audio recording, and this would be regardless of whether that physical thing has been viewed before and the victim knows it shows something else, so a person under hypnosis and someone who isn't affected would disagree about who is in a picture.
    I also suspect that while Aizen doesn't need to stay focused on maintaining the hypnosis, he does need to keep putting reiatsu into it, and Aizen just happens to have a surplus of that.

  • @HonkaiHistory
    @HonkaiHistory Před 19 dny +1

    I think the camera or photo question should be no surprise, like if it puts you under an illusion that someone is standing in front of you, what stops it from also letting you see the footage or photo differently? I think its real weakness is if you are fighting together with someone, who is not under the illusion and can describe how things are really like.
    A more interesting question in my opinion would've been, if someone under the illusion gets visually linked to someone, who is not under an illusion, if that person would be able to see unaltered input or if the illusion gets applied directly inside your brain where visual and other sensory information gets processed, so that even such a linking would give you false impressions. It would come down to if the illusion is applied by affecting your eyes and other sensory parts of your body or your brain.
    Lastly, I wonder if Aizen needs to be present and have knowledge to be able to "apply" a new illusion. We know that once he applied kyouka suigetsu and creates an illusion, for example that Aizen is dead, that this false impression will stay forever, even if he is not present anymore. But what if for example someone is spying on Aizen without him noticing. Even if the person is under kyouka suigetsu's effect, would Aizen be able to show him that he is doing different things than what he is actually doing, even if Aizen doesn't know he is being watched? Or if Aizen is in fake karakura town and knows that a captain is fighting an espada in hueco mundo, is he able to create new illusions and false impressions for that captain to mess with his fight?
    Because those 2 points could be additional potential weaknesses. Get help by someone who is not under the influence to figure out the false impressions that have been applied to you, then get enough distance and do stuff outside Aizen's knowledge

    In my What If...? head canon, I always thought it would be cool if each of the Great Nobel Houses first ancestors would have been the creators/founders of the four aspects to Shinigami. Like the Kuchiki's could have been the founders of Zanjutsu, the Shihoin clan being founders Onmitsukidō for either Hakuda or Shunpo, and the other two founders in Kido. etc.
    And the former 5th Nobel House, the Shiba clan, would have been the creators/blacksmiths of all the divine objects in Soul Society. The Kakaku Taihō, Shinken Hakkyōken, Shihōin Shield, and maybe even the Sōkyoku for examples. And Ōetsu Nimaiya would have been a student of one of the Shiba ancestors.

      That would be nice if it wasn't outrightly stated in the novels that the SK sword dispelled after he was dissected and formed All 99 kiddo spells and they are kept in different planes of dimensions in the SK Palace
      It also stated that when someone uses kiddo they just borrow the power of the original above but no matter how hard they try they will never be able to reach the full potential power of the original
      But the shihoin clan one is close, there was a subtle mention in a part of the novel which I can't really remember, the shihoin clan kept secret artifacts of the SK unlike a special sword that the tsunayashiro clan have
      Or like nanao's family sword but the artifact or it's power was never emphasized on (like i said it was a subtle mention)

  • @airget
    @airget Před 19 dny +1

    Aizen's ability is considered "Complete Hypnosis" which means that when he takes your senses Sight, Hearing, Scent, Touch and Taste. Main two important factors being sight and hearing. What Aizen most likely does is impart the "memory" of a corpse being there and to an extent like Tsukishima's Book of the End what the person is told to believe is something they can't go against such as when Unohana felt something was wrong, she couldn't bring logic to it because it "logically" made no sense because Aizen's Hypnosis said so. So for Unohana to rely on her instinct rather than logic is what almost allowed her to fight back against the Hypnosis.
    But basically being under Aizen's blade control means what he desires you to see as "reality" turns into the reality he creates for you and your mind can't deny it because it's been written into the ability.
    I think it just goes to show how powerful Aizen was because his ability to control his Shikai was so strong that he was able to make something so grand look like child's play to execute.
    Now going back to Tsukishima basically him and Aizen's abilities are the same however Tsuki lacks the time that Aizen had to perfect his ability, in a world where Tsuki was a Shinigami with the same ability he most likely would of been able to manipulate the Gotei 13 into making him second in command to Yamamoto as he slowly turned all the subordinates into his Thrall to rewrite their view of the world to make him the center of their universe.
    And while yes not every Shinigami fell prey to Aizen's ability, the way he presented himself in a friendly manner I don't think it's too hard to believe that his goodwill nature lead others to lowering their guard and being happy to see his Shikai because Aizen was proud to show it off. And what sort of makes that intriguing is that it's possible that the execution of his shikai and the whole complete hypnosis he could of potentially preyed on a basic human desire that caused them to be enthralled by what they saw within the release that it slips their mind to consider how odd it all was. Like it's sort of hard to explain but I think Aizen definitely showed off his shiaki release to a huge chunk of the Gotei 13, at least the ones he deemed were necessary to enact his plan, so Captain's Vice, and subordinates with enough to pull to have influence over the situation. Also imagine being a shinigami who is training and having a Captain come to you and be like "hey wanna check out a shikai" They would most likely be happy to view a shikai because they strive to reach that level of connection with their zanpakuto.
