Mid-June 2016 the wonderful Lausie D a.k.a. Biker808 / @laura_d234 found her way into Austria. After spending a sightseeing day in my hometown Vienna the next day two friends and I decided to join Lausie for one day of touring. After a couple of hours it was bike-swap time!! Naturally I got all excited. Finally I myself got to try that MT-07 which received so much praise from the moto press last year for being one of the most fun low-budget bikes out there. So - how much fun was it?
Loads of it. The sound was magnificent. Its power certainly surprised me. It's rather simple to ride and definitely a forgiving bike. The suspension is a bit on the soft side but this only comes into play when riding hard. And its front brake was slightly too weak for my taste. But since I'm not into braking too much anyway I really didn't care. The brakes might could need a little bit of an extra for racetrack usage. But only there if you ask me.
You can definitely go and buy this bike if you're looking for a non-expensive and still very fun option. So to answer the question raised within the thumbnail: Watch the video and decide for yourselves. I had ZERO experience on this bike and tires before recording the video.

Bro. Do you live inside a video game? Every time I see your videos, I think... This can't be a real place. Roads can't be this good. Trees can't be this green. The sky can't be so blue. You are fortunate, friend!
that's what I always tell people who live in Northern Italy ;)
Additionally: The Rider cant be this good...
That's just Austria. I'm very fortnuate to live here
österreich, oida
Gear indicator. Fancy. Would safe me from loads of awkward moments trying to shift into my imaginary seventh gear.
probably watched too much Formula Homo. Although I think they might have 8 gears even.
Yes, eight gears (duh). Also they're only half as loud as my CB. And they're too chicken to drive in the rain.
Tomorrow's MotoGP. To remind you on what stuff to watch on TV.
Means you need a faster bike 😂
I still do it sometimes and I have the same bike 🥴
Such a pleasure to see my bike being ridden like this, and also to get the opportunity to hear it properly too. I loved riding your CB500!!
Man that crazy waterspot loves sitting over the speed
yes very annoying
LISTEN TO THIS!
How do you find the suspension?? is too much soft for lean or not?? ;)ninja 650 and yamaha 07 are the best bike for twisty road ;)
read the description ;)
I strongly recommend to change the rear suspension if you go for a MT07 or MT09 and want to ride hard.
Got an EMC for my Tracer, it's an other world.
thanks +KiffKevSteff :)
and yes +PSOHartWoW this bike would be VERY interesting with upgraded suspension. I'd love to try one.
ist eine jamaha^^
Wow just wow Amazing roads and a sick rider !
I'm ready to learn a lot from this channel :D
Happy I found your channel ,Iv'e just purchased a 2019 MT 07 should be delivered in a week from now cant wait!
congrats mate!!
Great stuff!! I did my A2 training on an MT07 and loved it. Just so forgiving, responsive, with loads of feedback. I liked it so much that I bought the Tracer 700 as my first bike. One of the first mods I did was to replace the front springs with an adjustable set. What a difference. So much more poise and stability. Schaaf, when you get the opportunity, come to France and try the Route de Napoleon through the Alpes! You won't be disappointed.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Please, can you share your Shutter Speed and stabilization settings?
And where Zoom H1 is situated during the ride? How is it covered from the wind?
Your videos are getting me so excited for my Euro tour soon! I don't have time to make it to Austria but Switzerland is going to be amazing!
Switzerland is more impressive even :)
mad skills schaaf! an MT-07 was the first bike I test rode. very easy to ride and enjoyable.
thanks David!
OMG I so wanted to see you ride the MT-07! Awesome!
glad you liked it! Thanks!
Thank you Schaaf. Second time I watch this vid. The sound alone is worth it. Thinking of it the sound of your vids is superior to other vids that's why I keep watching.
thanks Robert!
As always, great quality, great sound and great riding! keep it up.
thanks a lot!
great video, liked it very much especially the sc project sound of the pipe.I also have an MT07 and this is the sound I am looking for that will really fit the bike.
Keep riding and tubing and be safe!
thanks man!
176 dislikes??? Absolutly stupid people ... Your videos are awesome!! And continue speaking German, is a beautiful lenguage! Big hug!
thanks brother! Don't worry, the dislikes are coming from bots which are controlled by a hater of mine :)
+Schaaf Who's the hater? I'd like to troll him...
lol haters are pussies my friend. He'll never show himself. He has multiple accounts.
Probably wants you to earn more money so you're able to produce more content, lol. Haters gonna hate.
apparently he does :D
Great to watch you having so much fun. Stay safe.
thanks mate
Hey Schaaf, how was the wind protection of this windscreen and tank bag? Would you recommend that combination for a loooong trip?
it helps quite a lot, yes I'd recommend it.
Nice video! Do you shift clutchless when shifting up? Looks like that.
yup! Thanks!
The way he rode that mt was awesome the use of the 2nd n 3thrd gear is where the fun is at with that bike
Thanks
Hey schaaf great riding! How would you compare MT07 to Honda cb 500f? I know this has more power. But how about handling wise? Is it worth upgrading from 500f to this?
It is I'd say. The MT07 engine is very torquey and great fun to ride
Scraping pegs as a first timer on a bike, u always manage to bring up interesting content.
always trying at least :) Thanks man!
Your first time riding it, and you're absolutely slaying it! The FZ-07 is my only bike, and I'm rarely, if ever, at the RPM ranges you're pegging it at. Very impressive.
thanks man - those were my wild days ;)
I'm very impressed of the way you take the turns ! The speed ... it's just wow ! I know that i could hardly do that actually with my riding experience !
Greatings from a french biker ✌😉
merci
1 hour ago i thought about how good the quality of ur videos is and now i realised u are austrian
cool
Have you ever tried the SV650 from previous generation (the one with cast aluminium frame)? Just curious if it can ride twisties that fast.
unfortunately not but I can assure you that yes you can ride twisties fast with it (many people I know owned one)
From where did you bought the mount for the back luggage?
- for the honda cb 500 in the beginning of the video :)
it was a used one over a German CB500 messageboard :)
Awesome man! I miss the little Honda but wow nice work that thing flies!
thanks man!!!
hi, im curious about your thoughts on clutchless upshifts?
it's absolutely necessary if you want to ride quick
do you use your GPS as a sort of "heads up" for what's to come?
absolutely not. I wouldn't recommend relying on it. Plus when riding at higher speeds there's no time to take the eyes off the road anyway :)
Keep it on ;)
danke, Paul!!
How is the throttle response, transmission and clutch. Seem smooth?
very smooth indeed
these roads of yours are magnificent :D
indeed!
which bike is for your opinion better in cornering and that is not really to much power. CBR600RR or MT07 i know cbr is much stronger but i want to know about handling and overall riding which u would recommend?
MT07
parallel twin right? sounds so similar to a husqvarna nuda 900R, I fell in love with this bike 😀
yep!!!
Hey man, have you got a video for rev matching?
nope but there are 100s on CZcams :)
what a road! :O ...Love the way this video is recorded btw ;)
grazie Andrea!
I’d behave like a complete hooligan every time I went in that tunnel. Schaaf you’re a maniac bro
;)
Hi, nice vew as always.
When you take corners, do you move your entire body or just move to feel the adrenaline ?
with this bike I rode a neutral position, not moving my body at all
K thx just because I see that you go front and back on the bike ✌️🏍️
Hey Schaff! Can you get your hands on the new r7??
Nope
I just started riding and I’ve been carving back roads like you with my FZ07 almost daily. Such a great bike I’ve got an akrapovic on mine. I do wish it had stiffer suspension though.
nice!!
I put full HyperPro suspension n more on my old FZ-07, it was epic!!!! At the Tail of the Dragon 🐉 locals rule! Another great riding video buddy!!! Ur good on any bike ! I’m good to
Hey Schaaf, quick question, you test rode the F800R before the MT07, if you had a choice as a beginner rider to choose between those two bikes for commuting on a daily basis which would you choose ?
just for commuting?
And a bit of light touring.
imo the MT-07 is a lot more bang for your buck if you're mainly using it for commuting. The F800R would pay off when riding more spirited or doing more touring.
An amazing video as always. It hurts to hear the mt-07 with a sc project when i have to ride mine stock because of money :(.
What's up with the dislikes? It's propably my favourite video of yours. Thanks for sharing Schaaf!!!
thank you for watching and commenting! The dislikes are coming from spam bots, controlled by a hater of mine. He apparently doesn't know that my videos make a lot more ad money this way ;)
such a nice sounding bike
was ist da alles an Zubehör dran ? Handguards ? Scheibe ?
That sounds great... what exhaust ?
Standard
Dam. What a ride. Mad skills man.
i Love the little downshift Barks!!!
me too!
Wich is the windscreen? Mra?
Hey, super Video. Ist es mit oder ohne Db-Eater?
mit
Schaaf , in your opinion, which is more fun to ride MT07 or XSR700? I cant decide between them and love both looks :)
the XSR was more fun to me
Thanks man, I think it looks better too
Schaaf any explanation?
I am thinking about maybe getting this bike this year when I get my A2 license, do you recommend it?
fantastic value, yes. If you want to become a confident rider in less time though I'd recommend starting smaller like a 250 or 300cc bike
Unlike Mike I just started riding and my first bike was the 2017 fz 07 I love the bike and it makes me smile every time I ride I highly suggest it it has a very forgiving throttle and it's just all around fun
Well ridden. Lovely road, eh?! Ride safe mate.
Hey, great video. How tall are you? I'm 185cm tall and I'm afraid of being uncomfortable riding the mt07 but i love the this bike, in Portugal I can't test it. Thanks for your help and good work.
I'm 184cm tall and I had no problems but I never rode the bike for more than 15 minutes. But you should be fine, there are ways to modify the height and geometry as well
This was my 1st bike (2015). I also have a 675R now, the FZ07 is a really awesome bang for the buck. I did need to put some stiffer springs in mine to help with the squatting though. Ride on.
true!! Thanks!
I love the fact that you blip the throttle on down shifts ! because not many seem to do this on here now
it's more or less standard in the motorcycling world. But since a vast majority of youtube riders doesn't know how to ride properly indeed it is rare to find on here
how long have you been riding? I can't wait til I'm that comfortable in the corners
at this point for ~50.000km
30k miles that's it? hmm how'd u learn how to handle corners aggressively.
by staying on the same weak and non-competitive CB500 for years
freut mich, danke!!
Daaaamn I loved this road when I was there last year! :D The bike sounds lovely, but I prefer the full Akra system on it, that gives a lot deeper rumble :) Nice vid Schaaf! :)
thanks Márk! Indeed this stretch of road is just too wonderful!
The SC project is actually louder and more grumbly than the full Akra. Bear in mind I had the baffle/db killer in because of european laws. When I take it out it sounds like a hooligan!!
what a beautiful ride!
thanks man
Thoughts on this as a first bike? Currently 19 in the uk, so it would have to be restricted to be in line with an a2 license
it would be okay but I always recommend getting smaller bikes like 250s or 300s for the start
+Schaaf alright I'll keep that in mind, thanks a lot.
Wouldn't mind a sm tbh
Gschmeidig Schaaf, gschmeidig!
danke, Christian, danke!!
How does this compare for fun to your cb500? also, have you ridden the new CB 500?
not the newest CB500 model. The MT-07 is ~25 years younger than my CB. That's the difference you can feel. But my CB is still more fun to me because it's more agile.
Schaaf Thanks for your response. Yes, I understand, I really like nimble bikes also. Yours weighs in at 374 lbs I think. After test riding a few 600 cc and 1000 cc bikes I rode a used Honda CBR300R and it was a lot of fun because it was so nimble. The Honda dealer here does not allow test rides so I can't try out a new cb500f to see how nimble it is and how it compares nimble wise to an fz07. Considering getting a CBR300R because it is so nimble. Any experience with the CBR or a Ninja 300 as far as nimbleness goes? Or look for a CB500 like you have. Bottom line, I want a nimble fun bike.
P.S. I guess what I am getting at is if you were me and wanted a nimble agile fun bike what year and model would you get?
Thanks for subtitles, Nice video :) Don' know what's up with the dislikes guys. I'd Imagine he spends a lot of time to create these high quality videos for us so why dislike it? If you don't like it, (I don't know why you wouldn't), then leave.
At least the haters prove that I'm also doing something right. Thanks a lot Wookie mate
You should seriously apply for a bike test rider job :)
I'd love to. But I think they are afraid of me crashing the press bikes ;)
Would you prefer the MT-07 or the Suzuki GSX-S750?
two very different engine concepts. I'd take the Suzuki for quick riding and the MT07 for commuting / touring
Liegt vllt an meinen schmalen 70kg :)
hi, i need the sound effect on 3.04. how can i get ? :)
I extracted it from my Battlefield 1942 installation files myself
do you mind if i use it in my videos ? can you send it ?
absolut gschmeidiges video und leiwander kanal!
freut mich sehr, danke!!
At 1:28, the camera on the handlebar gave up... This ride was definitely too scary for it 😊
A great video as usual, with a nice road, a cool bike, and a lot of skills. Thanks 👍🏻
:D ehehehe well spotted! Thank YOU!
Please the brand of the windscreen and handguards? they look good!Nice bike.
not my bike, sorry, don't know
Schaaf ok thank's! keep the good work!
Brilliant video, i love it, also because i have the same bike and really would like to ride it like you do in the curves. BUT at most i admire your editing skills...how on earth did you manage to keep the speedometer watermark on place for the whole video????I'm trying the same but..."computer says no"!
I use adobe after effects (motion tracking) for that. Thanks
Just to let you know, your speed can be seen on the mounted GPS...
Either way - great video ;)
As always very enjoyable, again showing that you CAN go fast and safe without putting others on the road in danger. Thats why I subscribed in the first place. Agree with the others.. whats with the dislikes? (eventhough you actually gain from it..)
thanks a lot bro! The dislikes are very likely coming from bots. I know for certain in a couple of days!
I hope you didn't let Lausie see this video 😆
Sounds awesome BTW!
She loved it :D
Mt07 or sv650 what did you prefer?
SV
Do you have a video of you riding that 690R Duke? I love my Duke as you can see on my latest track day video. :)
Only got a vid on here where I'm riding a 2010 Duke :)
Hallo, schaltest Du ohne Kupplung rauf UND runter?
Nur rauf!
I really enjoy your videos! I firmly believe that if you road a bunch during good weather and then uploaded 2-3 times per week year round your channel would explode. You could be like RJ, just ride and offer a little subtext.
I'm so jealous of the roads you have available to you! There never seems to be much traffic and so many great curves!!!!
Next year my little R3 is going to become a full time track back and I'm going to get a second bike for everyday. I'm really leaning towards a naked bike. I've considered the FZ07, FZ09, FZ10 because they are all such great values, but I'm also wondering about getting a premium European bike like the S1000R, Tuono or Speed Triple.
Decisions. Decisions.
You'll have to try them all I'm afraid :) I'd love to record and upload videos 2-3 times per week but the reality is that I can't afford to ride bikes more often than 10-15 times per year.
Thats why Ramen was invented Schaaf
you know what's cheaper than Ramen? Nothing. Has the nice side effect of keeping me massively underweight. Which feels good on a 50bhp bike :)
It's awesome the way you sacrifice for your art!!! LOL
Schaaf
I wish that was the case for me, 6.5ft and 125kg doesn't work so well on a 50hp bike :-)
Where is it?
you are indeed a bike mater! perfect control and excellent lines! how many times faster is the mt-07 from your cb500?
*bike master
tahahaha bike mater sounds kinda wrong :D :D It's 30% more powerful on paper and that's just how it feels on the road! Addictive!
+Schaaf whoa! not much of a difference. again awesome vid man love to see you ride other bikes and especially your honda cb500.
love the sounds, speed and view
thanks!
Welcome sir 😃 just now I just ride the mt07 for the first time..
awesome! Did you like it?
Yeah... I love it...it's quite torqi and love their cornering
Awesome ride!
Judging by the dislikes I think you made someone envious!
ahahaha true that! :D
Love the scenery, that bike sounds mean! :D Also who the hell is disliking?
thanks bro! My hater's bot army is!
Great riding brother.
thanks again
wtf the dislikes?
Honda fanboys probably ;)
immer wieder tolle Videos von dir!!! (Y)
Btw. klasse gefahren
184cm! Hab mich sehr wohl gefühlt! Danke!
Killer skill, killer videos. Like your stuff so much! I'm an American rider that spent my 20's on big Harley Davidson's. I've been looking at sportier bikes but I've been hesitant to pull the trigger on something like the XSR900. Sure, my Road King "technically" had a TON more displacement but its just different kind of power, you know? Your videos on the MT-07 and XSR700 are making me lean more towards them. IDK- I'm not a beginner rider but I'm a beginner non-cruiser rider.
The XSR900 won't disappoint you
You should do a trip to Norway! :D I have some beautiful twisty roads in my backyard... (as a figure of speak, that is. i don't have a backyard. )
It's very high on my travel bucket list. Unfortunately very expensive too ;(
Holy crap bro.. Where was this recorded? The place looks amazing for riding!
The village he passes is called Greith, it is in Austria...
Ooooh i loved that!! Shcaaf on a bike that's new to him is "very good viewing". At 5:51 my dad (RIP) called it "scrabbling" when a tyre was almost letting go of it's grip, it did little skips to let you know it was on the edge. He used to say it was a good thing if a tyre warns you when it's on the edge so you are aware of the danger. If the exhaust on that bike is stock? then i love the sound of it. Another great bookmark video, thank you.Ride Safe.
The SC Project exhaust was aftermarket. The stock exhaust is painfully quiet and the recommended Akra is expensive and doesn't sound quite as good in my opinion.
+Biker808 Oh poo, I was so hoping that was it's stock exhaust and sound, what a shame. Ride Safe.
"Scrabbling" I'll remember that one :D Indeed I thought it was a nice "thing" to have. My BT45s on my Little Honda are not acting that obvious when near the edge!! Thanks a lot Jeremy!!
+Schaaf you are welcome . Ride Safe.
Awesome bike and rider
thanks a lot!!
Hallo!
