  • SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA - Gwangjang Market is the most famous street food market in Seoul for traditional Korean street food. This iconic market, renowned among locals, catapulted to international fame through its feature in the Netflix series "Street Food Asia: Korea." For those venturing into Seoul's food scene or looking to indulge in Netflix-celebrated street food, Gwangjang Market is an unmissable destination. I will take you on a Gwangjang market tour and eat all of the best food from the market and food which appeared on the Seoul Street Food Netflix episode, we even see the famous Gwangjang Market lady.
Our Gwangjang Market Food Tour includes tasting the legendary kalguksu (handmade, knife-cut noodles), the crisp and savory bindaetteok (mung bean pancake), and the Gwangjang Market sundae (Korean blood sausage), a staple in Korean street food culture. I finish with maybe the most famous food in Gwangjang market. At least, it can be called that if you look at the queues. A Chinese doughnut.
It was a fun Korean street food tour for me so let's go on this delicious journey together and discover why Gwangjang Market is a cornerstone of Seoul's street food scene.
After taking a recommendation from Paddy Doyle Gwangjang Market surprised me.

Those hand made noodles were worth the flight to South Korea alone. My sort of meal especially with all the pepper.

That blood sausage reminds me of black pudding. Will you be showing us more Korean bizarre food like live octopus? 😅

Haha I actually filmed a segment in that video saying I wouldn’t be trying that! My guilt kicked in as I just had seen My octopus teacher on Netflix. But I cut the scene. Plenty eat it in that market, it’s everywhere

You ate most of the popular dishes at Gwangjang. I typically eat my sundae with tteokbokki, so I can dip in the sauce. Great serious in Korea.

Great content as always. Did the conversation with the lady about the addition of vinegar lead to anything?

I use vinegar/chili fried garlic concoction in most food that I eat these days. It really does make food that much better, in your case it's noodles.😋

I’m glad you tired Sundae. I didn’t used to like it growing up but have come to crave it as I’ve gotten older😊

Yeah I love it. There isn’t much I don’t like but blood sausage is always a winner for me! Especially with that chilli salt

Honestly, as a South Korean, I regret that you visited Myeong-dong and Gwangjang Market.
These two places have far more foreigners than South Koreans, And have a very bad reputation among South Koreans.
That's why there aren't many South Koreans.
They sell low quality food at high prices. (Because most of them are sold to foreign tourists. To get them to spend a lot of money.)
These two places are frequently reported in the news in South Korea due to controversy over price gouging.

Sure but I think you can find good food anywhere with the right eye for it. Touristy places or not. I think gwangjang market is okay for what it is and some stalls make it better and more honest than others. The atmosphere is cool. There’s definitely good food in places you don’t expect - but yes I do prefer more off the beaten path food for sure. There’s more of that to come in this series

I AM A KOREAN. YOU'D BETTER VISIT ANOTHER MARKET. THIS MARKET IS TERRIBLE! I AM SURE THAT YOU WILL REGRET IF YOU GO THERE! THOSE ARE RIP OFF! 😂😂
I APOLIZE ON BEHALF OF ALL THE CRAPPY MERCHANTS OUT THERE...
