- Tense despite the constant joking amongst themselves, a group of a dozen soldiers wait in Chasiv Yar for an armoured vehicle to take them to the Bakhmut frontline. In addition to their weapons - rifles and RPG rocket launchers - the soldiers also carry large shovels, to build trenches in the new position where they will be posted. "We don't know where we go, it's classified, we infantry soldiers are told right before we move," a soldier with the call sign "Kit" says.

This is so sad, I hope they make it home to their families. This is commitment and bravery at the highest level. This war must end soon. To many young men have lost their lives.

The Ukrainians are fighting a defensive war on their own land. They can't stop fighting or they will cease to exist.
The Russains are fighting an aggressive war on another mans land. If they stop figthing and go home, the war ends.

Donetsk and Luhansks Oblasts are Ukrainian lands and no country in the world agree with Russia claiming rights to those regions. Russia is a member of the Unitid Nations and must follow United Nations rules and leave the occupied land - or Russia must leave the United Nations.

We've seen yellow and blue tape for the Ukrainians for a year, but lately a lot of green tape, at least at the Bakhmut front. Does the (new?) *green* colour only indicate Ukrainian side, or also some type of unit or occupation?
[Edit] Since this post I've seen the green tape used in various units, both some I think were special forces, and some who seemed to be volunteers doing some non-combat tasks. So now I have the impression that "green tape" merely means "on the Ukrainian side" and used for any type of unit.

one is a volunteer from USA i believe...likely an UKR American who can speak UKR and assigned to this UKR unit rather than an English speaking international legion...i think the trend for international volunteers is to wear all UKR insignia and unit patches but have a subdued flag of their county of origin as an additional sleeve or chest patch

Those with green armbands means they are rookies and being sent to frontlines. In urban warfare, easier to defend with less experience.
Those in yellow armbands are professional army meaning they are typically deployed in open areas which requires more experience.
