Enjoy watching all the equipment and how it works. My wife said I missed my calling and should have been a farmer. Started at the age of ten, as a auto tech and shop owner for 55 1/2 years with my father. He came from his fathers farm that had no tractors. Drove horses in the fields. One generation away!

We used them here in the Willamette Valley. Here's why. Our soil is mostly clay and we raise grass seed and our field are plowed in the fall before any rain, so a heavy duty roller is a must, along with a super heavy harrow. All the farmers have built most of their equipments or have a custom built by another farmer or local business. The rollers I know got poured concrete so its very heavy.

You might set up the engine/hydraulic unit with quick disconnect hose ends, fork lift slots and pin in place so you can switch between the drop deck trailer and seed tender to get dual usage out of the unit and stop having to draive a tractor to unload the trailer each time.

Thanks for you and Dougo talking about history on the farm. The background info on the land roller was interesting. Amazing how the years change things. History is always interesting. Thanks to both of you for doing that.
Thanks for showing us the new seed trailer you put together. New equipment is always interesting to learn how to run it. The trailer looks nice guys. Also the old blue trailer looks good too.
Will be anxious to see the new trailer in action with all the upgrades. You guys did a great job of putting it together. You did it quicker than I would have thought. Nice job!!!!

You guys are always great. My exposure to "farming" was a small apple orchard and about 1/3 to 1/2 acre, all by hand. Way back in the Dark Ages, creating our own food was a labor of love. We did have a Gibson tractor, (maybe your dad knows of them), plows, mower and our roller was a concrete culvert filler with concrete. Out next door neighbor grew raspberries and corn. I remember one day watching him crawl on his hands and knees from corn mound to corn mound, take a tablespoon of fertilizer from a breakfast bowl, mix it into the soil with a fork and crawl on to the next mound. 7 or 8 feet tall, and corn so sweet, juicy and good, we ate it right off the stalk.

Last time that we farmed was in 1979 and all farming was by the seat of your pants! We had an 4430, 8430 and a 4400 series combine All were John Deere and lived in northeast Iowa outside of Waterloo! I had just about every member of my family that either worked for John Deere or worked for a company that supplied parts for John Deere. My mother worked for Hinson's building cabs for the John Deere tractors. She was a welder god rest her soul! She raised five boys and worked in a factory and then she was a truck driver. They do not make women like that anymore. I worked on a farm in the mornings before school, I would get up at 4:00 am and slop hogs and wash down pens in a farrowing center. I would go home and shower and get ready to be on the bus at 6:30am. Our bus ride was an hour. We would get home and go to work for the farmer until dinner. My parents had a sanitation business so we worked the back of garbage trucks when not working the farm every day during the summers, and every weekend starting at age 11. We worked 7 days a week and only took off for Christmas day! Children were very different in the 70's an before!
