What a fantastic story! She will go far now that she has found her passion! I am with her on microbiology! I worked on a PhD briefly at TAMU in College Station but then went to work in the Pharma industry. Some days I wish I had finished my post grad work, but then I think of all the things I was able to do (and afford) thanks to my career in the Pharma world. I love ALL the TWiX podcasts, but all the micro podcasts are my favs! Keep up the great work professor!

OMG! Im also 10 years out of college trying to transition into computational biology and genetics now as an older student.. considering masters programs now and how to get in with a poor GPA. I've signed up as a non degree student and taken some Coursera courses so far but the path is totally unclear. I'm so so excited to listen to this!!

Jessica's story rings so true with what I went through. I did well in Community College and wasn't afraid to speak up in class because I didn't know any of the other students. In high school I always felt like I was being judged by those I knew and who knew me. It was also very affordable. I also took a lot of courses by Coursera online in subjects I was interested in. Highly recommend it. Wanted to learn about viruses so I bought a used virology text by a guy named Racaniello. Didn't know who he was so I looked him up online. This was around 2010. Went down the TWIV rabbit hole and the rest is history. University education was too expensive.

Great Jessica, it was nice hearing you. The love for viruses took me to the Wuhan Institute of Virology, China. Its amazing to dream and achieve, that's the real motivation.
