Back when Oscars really had CLASS and GRACE.
Isn’t it insane? It’s like another world.
They had style, they had grace
Rita Hayworth gave good face
Lauren, Katherine, Lana too
Bette Davis, we love you
Ladies with an attitude. Fellows that were in the mood
Don't just stand there, let's get to it
Strike a pose, there's nothing to it.
And back when Burt & Angie were the “it” couple!
Whole world had more class then just look who was living in the white house and trying to get back in God help us 😢 3:12
RIP Hal David (May 25, 1921 - September 1, 2012), aged 91
And
RIP Burt Bacharach (May 12, 1928 - February 8, 2023), aged 94
You both will be remembered as legends.
Goodbye Burt Bacharach The King Of Jazz
My mother loved Burt Bacharach. In the summer of 1971, my folks and I traveled to California to spent the summer with relatives. I still remember how excited my parents were the night they went to see Burt Bacharach in San Diego. The were all dressed up, and had a wonderful time. I’ve seen him 4 times. I always think of my folks when I hear his music.
How Nice!
Haha that's so cool I'm from San Diego (still live here) turned 13 the summer of 71 and the Sports Arena was new back then. But I remember when Bacharach was in town because my Aunt and some of her friends went to see him. Small world. Think my folks woulda liked going but we were on holiday traveling camping trip that summer.
That was a special trip for my family. My folks approached me the year before, I got to decide if we had an in ground pool installed, or went to California for the summer to visit my moms sister, and her 5 sons. Since we lived in Michigan, I wanted to go to California and see my cousins. I also thought if we got the pool, I’d be the one maintaining it until I moved out.
It was my first flight, and I begged my folks to see if we could fly on a 747. They tried, but 747’s were too big to land in San Diego at the time. I was disappointed, but still excited. I still remember just about everything from that summer. We went everywhere. The neighborhood in Poway my aunt and uncle lived looked like “The Wonder Years”. My dad left a month early to get back to work, my mom and I stayed until late August. She even started school clothes shopping for me there.
When it was time for us to travel back to Michigan, my mom told me instead of Chicago, our layover would be in Los Angeles. It didn’t matter to me since I didn’t know any better. When we left the flight to find our new gate, my mom told me to sit with our bags while she checked in at the departure desk. She sat with me about 15 minutes later, I was looking out the window at the flights landing and taking off. Then I knew why we were in Los Angeles, a new 747 pulled up to the gate. I turned around and my mom was smiling. She asked if I was surprised. Of course I was. My dad had rebooked us after he arrived back home. I think it was the most thoughtful thing my dad ever did for me.
It was a perfect summer I’ll never forget. I hope you had as much fun growing up in California as I had spending 3 months there.
Lovely memories.
Those were the days. Class.
53 years on we are still hearing it and it is still good.
Burt Bacharach so talented and gorgeous
Thanks for the Music Burt
Burt Bacharach is so handsome and talented. I love every one of his songs. He is a Legend . Such classic music he has written. Class act. So many decent people back then. Can't stand much of what we have today.
The women must have stood in kew to be known to this wonder of a man..oh oh oh😍
Hal David is the ugly duckling who wrote all or most of the lyrics to his songs.
I Agree Burt Bacharach , just Awesome Period
Just look how beautiful his lovely wife Angie Dickinson is
I so agree. He was a good looking, classy guy with tons of talent. He is deeply missed. So is Hal David.
Thank you B.J. Thomas for making Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head a number 1 hit.
👍👍👍🤗🤗🤗😘😘😘
Legend.
God bless you, Mr. Bacharach. ✨️🙏🏻✨️
"Raindrops keep Falling on my Head" *RIP BJ Thomas*
RIP Burt Bacharach
From one guy to another. THAT IS WHAT HANDSOME IS.
Am so glad I was able to see Burt Bacharach perform in San Diego a couple of years ago at an outdoor concert. He played the piano, as a trio of singers performed his music, with the exception of "Alfie." Burt with a very raspy, sometimes hard to hear voice, SANG as he played to an audience of about 3,000 people. You could hear "a pin drop", it was so quiet. When he finished, there was a roar of applause, and I actually teared up! What a true moment from a musical legend... Bravo Burt! 🤗

I went back and corrected my grammar... happy now?
Burt always loved Hal’s lyric on Alfie and even though it’s a challenging melody for any singer, he seemed to enjoy doing it himself. And it was his understanding of the emotions behind the song that made him successful with it.
I saw BURT twice in the Netherlands. BURT, my music hero for 50 yrs. R.I.P. Burt. Than you for all those amazing songs that you left behind. A deep bow for this legend of music and very deep respect. There will never be another composer then that he was!
Candace Bergen so stunning as is Angie Dickinson!
R.I.P. Mr. Bacharach. Brilliant score.
This was THE film everyone saw that year!
Man, growing up I had the biggest crush on the beautiful Barbara McNair! Burt, you've always been my most favorite composer!
Hal sure brought those songs to life! They were quite a pair!
Bergen absolutely stunning...David and Bert double winners
Two musical genius song writers! Bravo!
Wow, we were once young.
I saw this. Burt Bacharach's music and Motown will always be my favorites, although I appreciate all music.
Excellent nominated scores/songs, all in different genres; Delerue, Williams, Gold, Michel Legrand...all giants in the industry and had multiple nominations and wins over the years. Music for film was written then without computers or synthesizers. Wonderful themes; not at all like the confusing scores for current films all generated by machines.
The greatest among the greatest.
In the 1970s Burt Bacharach was unbeatable in his music and he sure deserved it
1960s...he started tapering off in the 1970s.
@@mikegee8875 And then in the 80s came back with a couple of good hits.
@@maxz617 To mention just the theme tune from Arthur!
Ahhh Burt Bacharach what a cool time that all was back then and even tho I was just 9 then I remember it fondly and feel blessed to have lived though even a small part. I always remember a new green Pontiac Grand Prix Dad bought in 68 that had AM/FM "Stereo" which was a rather big new thing then, especially in a car. I remember Dad having to explain when the little red light came on it was a stereo station listen to the difference and there really was! LOL. But one of the first songs I remember playing on that Grand Prix stereo was Raindrops. 🤔 😎
Nice to see Ms. McNair here, she had her own variety show then.
she was so beautiful
What a Handsome...little shy and modest man...oh sigh.
Greetings from Norway. 72 yrs😍😉
Great year for soundtracks!
Wow 2 awards in one night amazing it’s worthy has beautiful songs Burt Bacharach your music lives on .. I was only 12 years old then ..but I enjoy your music until now ..
Candace Bergen -- a true vision of elegance and beauty. Bacharach did very well here. Good man.
💞💞💞🤗🤗🤗👍👍👍
MY ERA GROWING UP. THEN AS AN ADULT IN THE HOLLYWOOD MPI - INCLUDING THE MUSIC SIDE AS WELL - I HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF WORKING WITH BOTH "BURT" & "DIONE WARWICK" TOGETHER & SEPARATELY! (RECORDS & MOVIE SCORING)THANK YOU LORD !
Esse cara é um gênio, simplesmente um gênio! BURT...GENIUSUUUUUUUSSSSSS....!
He was humble and honored. True gentleman
Barbara McNair looks gorgeous!
There are so many comments telling that The Master Burt Bacharach did not deserved this 2 Oscars. Well I think they all are wrong and like always happens with Oscars, Mr. Bacharach received this award not just for the score of Butch Cassiddy, but also for his previus nominations for Alfie, and in special for The Look of love, 2 years before. To me Mr Bacharach is the best composer of the second half of the 20th. Century and I got to know about him for Close to you by The Carpenters and the Butch Casidy score and song in 1970. Communications in the 70^s in Bogotà and the rest of the world were completely different in those days.
And the greatest is... Burt Bacharach!
candice bergen is FABULOUS here
murphy brown
great speech ... classy guy !
RIP
Burt a great gentleman and composer 😔
Barbara McNair… beautiful
Merecidos!

RAINDROPS KEEP FALLING ON MY HEAD SUNG BY THE ONE AND ONLY B.J.THOMAS FANTASTIC AS ONLY HE COULD SING THE SONG
His voice matches the gaiety of the Bacharach classic...
Angie is gorgeous !!
what a category for best song. Come Saturday Morning, Jean, Raindrops and What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life. Wow!
Yes, it was a very competitive line-up that year. Any one of those others would've been worthy winners as well.
@@James.Fife05 Indeed
So humble, talentous, handsome ❤️
Wow all great songs
I love how these super talented people didn't feel the need to give us their philosophies of life or views on religion. Sadly, their little girl passed away in recent years..
Gênio da música!
Legend
a father Marine home thank you
Cliff Robertson and Barbara McNair! Uau! Brasil
Very catching song.

RIP El Rey Del Jazz
I think his emotions poured out of his songs only guessing but he wore his heart on his sleeve a great talent
Amei a trilha sonora de Horizonte Perdido (Lost Horizon,1973) de Burt Bacharach. Maravilhosa!❤⚘
Grande Bacharach!!!!
Bacharach....Mozart...Beethoven....you get the picture.
Will Smith took the Oscars to a low I never imagined. Sad to see how much class, grace & respect the Oscars have lost over the years. It is unwatchable these days. These old clips are a classic delight! Burt Bacharach is a musical genius. Talented legend.
Oh my goodness: this was when Burt was still married to Angie Dickinson, POLICE WOMAN.
Yes true but she hadn’t yet done policewoman at this time
I know right ?!😅😅😅
*Burt was a doll*
Cliff was Bradley Cooper before Bradlet Cooper and Barbara was Halle Berry before Halle Berry
Nagyszerű.
Oh my gosh, oh my 13's...😭😭
"What are you doing the rest of your life" by Barbra Streisand is a fantastic song - but then again so is Raindrops💙
⭐❤️⭐
che artisti favolosi, peccato che non siano italiani!
Good looking guy!
I had a teenager boy crush on him that year, right before entering a Catholic seminary in Hawaii.. Serious !!😊😉
I still can’t believe nobody comment about the fact Cliff Robertson plays Ben Parker in Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy and this song was used in Spiderman 2😂
So Ben Parker gave the award to this song, later featured in Spiderman 2
I was thinking about that movie also and can't believe how handsome he was back then !
"EVERGREEN" RECORDING STUDIOS (1979-1983) - WE WORKED 1 CREW - DAY / NIGHT WITH THE BEST IN THE INDUSTRY (FILM/TV SCORING DAYTIME) & RECORDING ARTISTS AT NIGHT! STUDIO "A" THE BIG FILM ROOM & "B" THE TV ROOM! THANK YOU LORD! BEST MUSICIANS & SCREEN ARTISTS IN THE WORLD! THANK GOD
People complaining about not enough thanks to everyone (and not saying - let's get out of Vietnam) and running up on the stage too fast. Really? The Oscars were my favorite show back then and they didn't run for 3 hrs 45 minutes! Used to be tight and entertaining!
Beautiful Angie Dickinson 💛
FEB. 8, 2023 BURT BACHARACH PASSED AWAY: I HAD THE HONOR & PRIVILEGE OF WORKING WITH BURT BACHARACH IN THE STUDIO (ALBUMS & MOVIE SCORES) EVERGREEN STUDIOS, BURBANK CA. BURT WAS A CLASS ACT & SO WERE THE MANY STARS WHO SANG & PERFORMED ON SCREEN TO HIS MASTERPIECES, WHOM I ALSO WORKED WITH, LIKE DIONNE WARWICK & YES, CAROLE BAYER SAGER TOO! HE WILL BE MISSED > THERE WAS ONLY 1 BURT BACHARACH!
FREAKY FACT: KAREN CARPENTER (CARPENTERS) 40th ANNIVERSARY OF HER PASSING AWAY FEB. 4, 1983 > WAS JUST '4 DAYS' FROM BERT BACHARACH PASSING FEB. 8, 2023! REMEMBER > IT WAS BERT'S SONG "CLOSE TO YOU" THAT *LAUNCHED* THE 'CARPENTERS' METEORIC CAREER (1st Song/Mega Hit) & MANY MORE FOLLOWED JUST LIKE THAT > 1 SONG RELEASES = ANOTHER HIT!!
Do you have the oscar for a best costumes 1969?(the winner was Margaret Furse for Anne of the thousand days)
Oopsie forgot to thank the incredible BJ Thomas and of course your wife♥️🤗 it was a huge oversight
Some attractive people in that clip, but Barbara McNair....wow!
🎬🌍❤️🎶🎶
Everyone loves Raindrops, but one award was enough ... the evening should have been shared with What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life?
Except for the TRUE GRIT song, they are all superb.
🌍🎬❤️✨🎶🎶
Less than 15 minutes of original score won this score
Did you think cliff robertson look alike Bradley Cooper???
Didn't realize John Williams was nominated for "The Rievers'. Do yourself a favor and listen to the music for that movie. It outshines Bacharach's score hands down.
Hollywood can be blinded by inner circle protocol, or by sheer handsome looks of Bacharach...who will ever know ?
I did and wasn’t particularly impressed. It sounds like every stereotypical early 1900s period soundtrack. Williams is an incredible composer but IMO this wasn’t his best by far.
@@geraldquintana2862 Sometimes the inner circle is not only handsome but immensely talented too. Burt has nothing to prove to anyone. Everyone but haters are cognizant of his talent.
Ofuscar burt bacharach???? Fala sério cara. Burt bacharach é o único compositor gravado por Frank sinatra, elvis e os beatles. Precisa mais???????..
Who presented the best song Candice bergen?
Yep. She's so lovely, and tall.
He forgot to kiss Angie.
They had a lovers' spat before the glittery event...maybe he had a psychic vision of Streisand flirtatiously singing " Close to You" ?? Lol
FREAKY FACT: KAREN CARPENTER (CARPENTERS) 40th ANNIVERSARY OF HER PASSING AWAY FEB. 4, 1983 > WAS JUST '4 DAYS' FROM BERT BACHARACH PASSING FEB. 8, 2023!
