Why are so many people depressed in their 30s?

  • People in their 30s, millennials, as we call them in this very moment, are one of the most vulnerable generations in the history of mankind when it comes to depression. And I am part of that generation. And it is hard not to notice. Suicides and overdoses among young adults were already skyrocketing before the covid19 pandemic started. Now experts fear that the situation is going to get even worse.
But maybe there is some silver lining or some solution...

Interesting video I'd have to agree. Being 34 I am depressed.. but I'm not.. its easy to say your depressed when it might be something else.. im saddened I'm confused .. im struggling to find my way and in all honesty I feel I make more sense than the world around me.. I currently have a one sided experiment with my wife going.. I see in her what I saw in myself maybe two years ago..like I hit 32 for example and found something hard.. at the time I was moaning or unfit to her.. then I watch as she hits 32 and she moans about something.. instead of saying she's moaning I laugh and know she's experiencing what I did.. im learning more since 27-34 than I have my entire life.. I see things now that financially would make me "wealthy" but then because it seem so obvious I feel like am I being gullible to this because so many people miss the information infront of them.. and I battle with myself thinking do I risk it all and try get wealthy or am I being gullible and will risking it all make me poorer .. wealth comes down to alot of happiness imo. Having no financial worries must make it alot less stressful and also give you more options to do what you actually want to do not what you can fit in. And I feel more needs to be done to educate people who suffer with these thoughts because I've been to the point where I feel the outsider i feel like I'm right the world is wrong.. ive felt lonely and scared I feel this on a daily basis almost and I've felt that death would be easier but it's not.. figuring this shiz out and fixing it and helping the next person or generation to understand it more is what needs to be done!.. suicide though depression is NOT the answer... even if your convinced otherwise.. Robbie Williams says in a song .. I don't want to die but I'm not keen on living either.. this speaks to me because I don't want to die I just don't want to live this life that confuses and scares me.. I want answers and I want to figure it out so that I can sit there at the end of the day and watch the sun set and exhale and be happy.. I want to pass knowledge onto my kids and their kids and give them the best possible knowledge I can learn so that they have the best start and can grow as people. I don't want to hand them a million pound when I die because they will blow it.. but I want them to know how to make their own million and be greatful for it and be greatful for the knowledge past down so they can also pass it down and be happy with what they do as people not how much they have or can hand down life is a roundabout and it has many exits that you might not be sure you want to take but when you take one and you experience it you will always have a choice to change direction at the next roundabout .. enjoy the journey not the destination.

Weird to see people sad the 20s ended living their fullest. My 20s were boring and never made any deep relationships anyway. College was just extention of school. I want to find a way to be in peace, and slowly I think I am, instead trying fixing something that is unlikely to be fixed anyway.

But "don't follow your dreams" and being repeatedly told that what you happen to be good at, doesn't pay bills in your childhood, might be the thing that will push you into depression at some point along the way. Once you're in it, your whole vital and intellectual/creative energy is just gone.

Seeing the millennial illusion of never being able to attain our promised adulthood, strikes a cord within me. I'm barely 29, and my parents smuggled me into the USA as a toddler; I didn't choose to be here, and I'm so glad I am. The USA really is a bastion of reality done right, for the rich history of the west, and many bright minds worth playing their best card game as entrepreneurs. I only wish to be allowed to partake in it! Your schematic on how to pursue your own place, lane and status, really reminds me of how pursuing your passion is an allegory of finding happiness, you have to become it. I firmly believe everything matters, due to my religious devotion to stoicism. How ever, being crippled by the sad fact that I have no such rights, the USA birthright that is afforded to every citizen; the right most people take for granted. That sad fact is exactly how being a disowned millennial feels like, but where as most other millennials can try, I can't be allowed to attempt the journey: so I exist outside of it. It's pushed me back to the stone age, almost. I am feeling it Now. And it hurts so much.

I wouldn't agree with the theory. As a mathematician, you know how important is to be concrete and precise. Especially when dealing with this subject as every individual is unique.
You or anyone else can't encompass all the people (of the same age) in one theory. Don't be a sociologist or a philosopher as in this video you appear to be because it is purely wasting of your time (maybe). Stick to the mathematician methods here, too if you want to understand really the human psyche.
However, the pragmatic solutions offered here are what should be nurtured and they are great. ⭐
More pragmatism, less theories. I mean, you overdone it with this almost completely apart from the solution part and I hope you' ll understand it as constructive criticism. Why? Because you strive to be better. ☺️
Yet, as you said there is hope and nothing is so dark (BTW, speaking about depression can be without dark sound effects in the video), so people in their 30s (or to whatever aging group they belong to) can actually exit from the dark zone. The main problem is, as always, in overthinking. When someone is ill, he wants to get a fast solution to exit that state. Well, in the case of depression, fast solutions are not being applicable as depression is a very complexed problem that is not of sociological nature as you tend to describe it, but of psychological. Literally translated: it is not the group that is unique, but the human.
Anyway, people watching this video, once again, should be aware of the positive outcomes they can reach. Feeling depressed or alone or actually having a depression is indeed normal, but as Vladislav said, when you recognize it, do something about it. Read the Atomic habbits book e.g. where the author has a completely different scientific approach to that problem from both described here or in the psychology scientific circles.
The bottom line is that you (whoever reads this) are unique as a person and that it is important to do things that make you happy or satisfied - in a longterm, not to listen to me, Vladislav, psychologists nor anyone with blind eyes. Sometimes it is hard for us to force ourselves on something, so when we want to try something new, we need to have a glimmer of hope and a role model. New things don't always wirk out right for us, but the point is in doing them.
Ok, there is a line we can't cross and that is a tolerance of other people (and animals), but if you feel like always having a wish to make graffiti, don't overthink it, do it but be aware of the consequences in your specific country.
From my experience, depression arise when people can't express themselves because of various reasons, so Vladislav..., once again, this ain't a big critic ✋, don't get me wrong, it is always important you to feel you can express yourself and what you stated in the previous video I watched - to do something you like and don't let anyone interfere with it, I would add. Ok, sound effects here sre creepy to me personally 😁, but there will always be people with whom you can agree and not agree on some issues - which is why you should do the things you like regardless of that. ☺️✌️ Right because I know personally when someone is preventing you from doing the things you like, even the smallest ones, or when someone is making a rude joke about it - I deeply support people in doing things they like as long as it does no direct harm to other people.
Venting out in this form maybe - it is a great thing. Better than to stick in your home and feel without power to do anything. So, your videos are interesting, indeed, but be aware that you won't get a "heart" reaction always, but just sometimes a raw discussion. Which is great, too, I guess, as opposed to getting nothing?
So. Keep making videos, the value is always there to be found. ☺️👋
