Tanks in Rafah: Will Israeli operation scuttle or unblock truce talks? • FRANCE 24 English

  • They say it's darkest before the dawn. Let's hope that's true, because Gaza's definitely in the dark this Tuesday. Israeli tanks are cutting off the Egyptian border crossing in the southernmost city of Rafah as the coalition war cabinet rejects what Hamas brands as acceptance of a truce deal, instead reading it as an underwhelming counteroffer. Is this the start of the all-out ground offensive that US mediators, among others, fear will lead to a new level of humanitarian disaster?

How ignorant are some of these politicians/commentators. The only thing that has and can bring Hamas to the table is military pressure. Not on Gazans, which Hamas couldn't care less about, but on the remaining Hamas fighters in Rafah, whose only interest is saving themselves. Is anyone really naive or stupid enough to think that it was pure coincidence that Hamas accepted a modified ceasefire proposal the exact same day that Israel started its invasion. Hamas rejected ceasefire after ceasefire for months on end now, as they had no incentive to negotiate. And the U.S. says the Rafah operation is undermining peace talks. No it's the exact opposite. Hamas vowed to break off peace talks if Israel went in, and the minute Israel did, they agreed to the modified ceasefire. Netanyahu, everyone's favorite boogeyman, was right after all. The U.S. and others profess to want a ceasefire, the end of the war, the defeat of Hamas and the return of hostages, everything Israel wants and is trying to achieve, but these countries actions indicate the opposite. Do these leaders really believe this can be achieved without military pressure. Did they not see that Hamas refused months of ceasefires, never changing their demands, until Israel started going into Rafah. Is this just too damn obvious for them. Or is it that they are just willing to sell Israel out for their own selfish, domestic political needs. Now they're withholding ammunition, at a time when Israel is fighting an existential war on multiple fronts with enemis who want to wipe them out. With friends like this, who needs enemies.

Israel has to have defensable borders and other Arab and US government treaty defense guarantees. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.”
We DO NOT fight to bring the second coming! That as far as I know solely belongs to Islam. In fact I would & have defended people from other religions, Not to charge jizya or make them subservient but for their religious freedom.

It is almost ubiquitous that Netanyahu has designs on a dictatorship and he must go. The ground invasion of Rafah is not only justified, but can potentially reduce the number of casualties compared to IDF's obviously undisciplined air and artillery campaign. Israel has a lot of good soldiers, and it is shameful to see them led in this way.
