There is a bunch of people with equal guitar skills as Tim Henson. But no one actually writes like him, absolutely unmatched.
Supremely underrated comment.
Yep. There are plenty of extremely skilled guitar players out there. But it’s a lot harder to write music like this. It’s natural born talent AND working your ass off.
There no such thing as an original thought anymore.
@@Gsmoovie420 yep, seen these exact words in youtube comments before too, you’re not too original, either.
@@risharddaniels1762
If you look at the state the world is in right now, you start to see Jeffrey Bezos has a point because an original thought/idea would have set us free from this tyranny a long time ago. People are brainwashed for decades by the media and the news. They've conditioned our thoughts in such a way that we "think" our thoughts are original yet they are not. They are merely a sum of everything we've have heard and learned as being the truth (their truth)
This however, doesn't apply to music Jeffrey (and that could be part of the reason why Rishard responded) . . . there are still musicians that have original melody lines, syncopes in rhythms and progressions. Yes every note has been played a million times before, but it's the order and rhythm pattern in which you play them that makes them unique.
Same goes for the limited amount of letters in the alphabet, I know for a fact that I can some up with a sentence that no one has ever said before in history: "my garden gnome wears shower curtains and smells the refridgerator magnet on the freezer while the canary escapes from it's cage".
Every word is used hundreds of millions of times before, but never in this order. Same goes for some musicians like these guys or Dirty Loops for instance. I hope this makes sense, English is not my native language.
First part is heavily influenced by flamenco music and also Paco de Lucia. The second part of the song has Bossa Nova influence all over. Its so creative to mix all these genres and also sounding cool and fresh. Hands down to these guys.
For sure Jader. Love this.
Yep, amazing combination.
Mainly, a Bossa Nova
It’s so much more interesting, cohesive and fresh than any flamenco or bossa nova piece I’ve ever heard, though.
it's fantastic... but my favorite bossa nova mix in so far is in jinjer's home back....it's just so far away from metal that the fact they were able to combine them and make it sound good is very impressive to me
but this song is great too (well the first half for me)
I've said it before and I'll say it again: What I love about Polyphia is that they do progressive music in a way that is accessible to everyone. A lot of prog bands get really crazy with polyrhythms and time signatures in ways that make the music kind of sound like garbage to people who don't have degrees from Juilliard. Polyphia's progressiveness doesn't necessarily come from that - they do use polyrhythms, but they always stay in 4/4 and their tempo never changes - their complexity comes more from their arrangement within that framework
Well said Spencer.
Disagree about the degree thing. I think just having the ability to listen to a song instead of just hearing it is probably enough. I like Polyphia despite their lack of a lot of progressive elements. I know it's their thing and they are successful. But I think they would be a better band if they used more theory and experimented a bit more. I wonder if they will ever do a side project incorporating a bit more into their songwriting.
They’re like the gateway drug of prog
Its always so funny to see older musicians react to polyphia. I feel like they are a great band for people to connect with the modern rap/pop sound. Their instrumentals are so universal and their use of the 808 sub-bass fits perfectly to bridge the gap between nerdy/intricate guitar playing and an aggressive rap production.
Well said and I love them. They are one of my favorite bands for sure. Just pure beasts on their instruments.
Tim just dropped Sunset, a collaboration with Cory Wong and Plini that you should definitely check out. also the unplugged video of him playing through this is just unreal. picking hand too strong.
Thanks I’ll check it out.
Their picking is immaculate. Tim and Scottie are just...
You said it.
This is probably the third music teacher I've watched review this song and it's just so nice to hear you all put it into words so differently.
Thanks!
Tim Henson is the destroyer of boundaries. Boundaries all musicians thought couldn't be broken. Thats the signs of a real musician. Someone who doesn't give af about what society thinks about anything. He makes his own style.
For sure he’s a beast.
An absolutely stunning track, great choice Bob. Definitely my favorite song from them so far.
This one is completely awesome! I love the jazzy section in the middle. They are all beasts on their instruments.
@@bobcieslinski Check Tim Henson's youtube channel. He just released a collab with Cory Wong and Plini!
The drummer is insanely good. I absolutely love tim and the morr i listen to him the more i notice the drummer. He is reeaallyy crazy good. He stands out as a drummer probably as one of the greatest drummers ever.
I will second that. Most people don’t see the things he can do and just always right there. Wow
If you haven’t already seen it, Tim made a single segment acoustic play-along where you get to really see his work. Definitely worth a watch
Thanks I’ll check it out Brent.
@@bobcieslinski definitely worth a watch! Thanks for the videos!
An AMAZING track in so many ways imo.!!🔥🔥🔥🤯🤯🤯🥰🥰🥰 It quickly became one of my absolute favorites!❤️💚😃 Thank you for a great reaction🤗.
Mine too! Thanks!
I saw Polyphia last night in mpls (AND got to meet them!). They blew me away. Watching them do this 10ft in front of you is a lot different than watching them on a screen. They engaged the crowd really well, too. I could not have been more impressed with their performance. Thankfully for me, they usually stop in Mpls on their tours!
Wow man that sounds awesome! I can’t wait to see them live. Hope they come this way
The Hall of State in Fair Park, Dallas is where this video starts in. They are using nylon strings in this song. Very cool and a unique sound.
Subbed and liked. Great breakdown, would love to see more Polyphia here!
Thanks for subbing and liking!
Scott Starts soloing and Bob is like that's a sick bass drop. hahahahh
Probably their most impressive and most accessible single yet, dudes def grew up and grew into their musicianship with this album
For sure they have always been out of this world but this song takes it to another level.
I saw these guys open for Coheed & Cambria, which is a band I highly recommend for your next video if I may, and they blew me away! Like I'd never heard of them before then but now they're easily in my top 15 bands ever
Thanks Jon! Send me a link for a song from them.
I fell in love with this song a few weeks ago and play it nonstop. It’s masterful.
I love it too Jamila. Great middle section with the jazz feel.
the technical skill required on classical guitar to even play 1 riff in this piece makes my head want to explode and ive played guitar for 12 years :(
Yeah you can really appreciate what they do since you play and understand how hard this really is. It’s an ego blower for sure.
I love the use of nylon strings and these custom (I think) Ibanez acoustic guitars (probably with piezo pickups?). And such an awesome jazz vibe. Reminds me of the era of John McLaughlin and Paco de Lucia.
I liked the vibe too.
Yes, with piezo pickups.
@@ManiacTobi Thanks for that. I wasn't sure, but since I didn't see any outside it made sense to me. And it took me several views before I noticed the jacks on the upper edge of Tim's guitar.
Solid bodies.
iirc solid body nylon strings with piezo pickups. Ibanez made those in the ancient past.
Ibanez SC500N and they seem to bring out some new models of this kind of guitar in the near feature as the ones Polyphia was using are unreleased models yet. Looking forward to those myself, seems like a lot of fun to play.
I've been listening to them just for the sake of learning from them. There are so many intriguing and catchy patterns across their bars.
For sure. They are so quick it’s hard to take it all in.
@@bobcieslinski What I do on an acoustic guitar is surprisingly not far off of the emotional chaos portrayed by their chosen chords/notes/legatos. I've just ordered much lighter gauge strings to make it easier on myself, lol.
I get to see them live in like 10 days and couldn’t be more hyped!
Wow Travis you are so lucky. My son and I wanted to see them but missed them.
The arpeggio part at the end runs together in certain parts because of how it’s played. No effects, all fingers.
Tim's right-hand technique is equally as impressive as his left. Perfection.
This song makes me think of the chaos of getting ready for vacation... and than the transition to the vibe of being on vacation.
What you’re describing at 8:00 is guitar harmonics:) very hard to do while shredding for sure, very hard to get a clear output of it on an acoustic. His accuracy is pretty cool.
I think he knows what harmonics are lol
I'm done in.. Absolutely fantastic.. 👏
I know right. They are beasts.
Apparently after watching some people on youtube covering his songs on nylon guitars Tim immediately wanted to go pick up some nylon guitar tricks so they're using some really cool ibanez nylon electric guitars now
That is pretty cool. It was odd to see and hear it from them.
Right around 1:25 I start to get vibes of Gerudo Valley from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. It’s such a nostalgic sound for me and I hear hints of it in this part. Really tickles my inner child. I can’t hear this song without thinking about it.
This song is incredible and this group is mind blowing with thr talent they have. Off the chart.
love yr review....tht saffron tshirt is gorgeous +suits u...th group is really unusual
That bridge is just muah *chefs kiss*
That’s a WOW! Love this band.
Me too they are beasts on their instruments. Mind blowing.
I love that the next video to auto play was Lingus by Snarky Puppy.
Ever since I heard this song for the first time the whistle has been in my head.
Mine too. Love that part.
i find it funny that i watch this video, see 3 4-strings in the back and a sax, then hear him say "that's a sick bass riff" and immediately know what musician I'm watching. Love it
Lol
Tim Henson’s left hand dance’s on the fret board while his right digs the strings, together they make music.
I know it’s incredible right.
You should react to bear ghost, they're incredible. The Steven Bradley, beware, DOTAB are all amazing.
the end arpeggios are insane
Yep you are so right. Most of what they do is insane.
Its funny he says the second part sounds jazzy, i always say bossa nova is the jazz of flamenco :P
Tim palm mutes the notes at the end while letting opens ring, its pretty crazy and difficult stuff but sounds amazing!
His technique and skill are just amazing. Thr things he can do like thr one you mentioned are not selmthing that most guitarists can even think about doing. I play bass and when I listen to Clays parts I just shake my head.
"THAT WILL MAKE YOU WANNA DANCE!"
Their use of pinch harmonics (if that’s what I think they’re doing I’m a brass player) is so tastefully done it
Yes it is lunch harmonics and you are right. They are just so tastefully woven into their Melodie’s. Awesome you are a brass player. What do you play?
awsome reaction,u should take a look at ichika nito and his videos ,like where he random tunes his Strings to make a song
Thanks!
great reaction and analysis, please react to Marcin -bach's toccata so incredible I would like to have your analysis on his genius of the guitar thank you 🤩
I would love to and I did a video of his but it got totally blocked after a week of being visible. I think his stuff will be blocked. It’s a shame I loved him. He was awesome!
hey man great analysis! I would love for you to react to Chon - Ghost or the audiotree live version of Chon - Puddle. Keep up the good work!
I’ll add those to the list. I did do Pitch Dark by Chon. Check it out.
listening to comments from professional guys like yourself, Bob, helps me to reaffirm my guy friends that i'm not hyped over Polyphia simply because I find them hot. lol. There's alot more to their music.. i describe their music as freshly baked croissant. layers and layers of deliciousness and complexity...
Bunny these guys are complete masters and beasts on their instruments. Their skills and techniques are so high we can’t even see them all. Just amazing.
There's an Unplugged version by Tim that you have GOT to review..
Not sure if they've been recommended but you'd love Thank You Scientist. I'd recommend the video for FXMLDR where they perform with the blue coats
When you say bluecoats do you mean Dci bluecoats or someone else?
@@bobcieslinski Yes DCI bluecoats. Here's the link to the performance
czcams.com/video/rxrz6RPSww0/video.html
Checking out your channel, good stuff. May I recommend you react to Dream Theaters Illumination Theory live. Every bit as captivating as Polyphia.
They actually used nylon strings on this one it’s fantastic
It sure is
Now you can reaction to their A Capella version
Lol
You should check out Billy Strings
They went full on “ girl from imponema “
in my taste it moves from gypsy jazz like to bossa like stuff, all tastefully enriched by computer like stuff.
Playing at the same skill level as him is one thing. But creating a piece like this on the same level is a whole other thing.
Good one
These guy's skill is incredible. I'm not a huge fan of the "trap metal" style, but you gotta give them props when you see playing like that.
For sure Jeff! Great musicians can spot great musicians no matter the genre of music.
This is more “math rock” than “trap metal” in my opinion
I feel like people conflate the two words, “talent” and “skill”.
They’re not synonymous/ hand in hand with another, they’re literal opposites actually.
A “skill” is a particular task you’ve trained to become proficient in.
“Talent” is something that you’re naturally keen to.
no jazz...bossa nova bob!!! saludos desde argentina!!
4 minutes in thats called a bridge, it changes the whole rhythm of the song and then transitions back
Man I love this one John. These guys are awesome live too. I saw them back in October.
Welp you gotta see Clay and Tim’s playthroughs for this song please! 🙏
I bet it’s a complete mind blower. Tim usually acts like it was so hard it took him a long time but then it was nothing compared to the rest of us humans.
@@bobcieslinski yeah completely different level
bob please listen to a perfect circle !!!
fun fact: tim henson went to fiverr and paid someone 32 dollars to whistle that beautiful melody he sent them and they took 5 hours just to whistle it which they had fun with since its such a fun tune.
I saw that too. Pretty awesome video and cool thing. Tim is hilarious the way he talks.
You're like a happy, encouraging Terence Fletcher, which is cool
Thanks so much I appreciate the kind words!
fun fact if you haven't seen tims video. that whistling cost tim $32 on fiverr lol
Kind of reminds me of jazz and rock mix
Yes Dooloo for sure. It has that vibe. These new songs all kinda do except for ABC
hey there! I'm your newly subscriber. I find your vids cool. just here droppin by. anyways there's a static noise/ground on your mic. you might need to check it up. tone it down a little bit.
Thanks!
they’re playing on nylon strings too 👀
loved your reaction! you should react to Marcin vs Ichika Nito
Sounds like a good one. I did a Narcin and it got blocked after 3 days so I’m not sure if that one will fly. Thanks!
@@bobcieslinski That one will fly for sure. There’s other CZcamsrs reaction to that video as well.
@@adi_ridhwan I wish that were the case. There are other CZcamsrs who reacted to Dimash stranger and mine and another guy I know got blocked. CZcams is very random for that.
If there's any chance for rock to survive into the next decade it's in music that resembles this. I've always said rock music needs to be stuff women can dance to, because the women bring the men, always.
you should react to tim henson- playing god
Flamenco Bossa nova Trap music...
10:46 headphone glitch effect
Yhis guy didnt noticed the drumer at intro
Oh man Clay is a beast. Saw these guys live and he had a solo. What an incredible musician.
The most amazing part about this song is that they're playing it on fucking Nylon strings. I dont think a lot of people realise how much more difficult it is to play this type of song and be this accurate on fucking nylon strings.
Man you are so right. This is a good one. Thanks!
I'm watching a live trial on Law and Crime, but seeing comments on a polyphia video. Very funny and confusing rn
These guys are incredible musicians.
@@bobcieslinski oh dude, I'm completely obsessed with them. I was telling my wife yesterday, I've never had music get stuck in my head so badly as Tim Henson riffs do, but they don't bug me the way other catchy music does. I like having it stuck in my head, kinda feels like medicine.
@@christophershepherd1983 I saw them live last April and they completely blew my mind. What they can do love is incredible. They are all beasts.
@@bobcieslinski You're about to make me pull the trigger on seeing them in Houston later this year!
@@christophershepherd1983 dude you need to see them for sure. You won’t regret it.
i cant believe Johnny sins is also a band teacher.
Lol
Tim is the new guitar god
He sure is. It’s crazy what he can do.
I do love this band. Maybe I missed it but did you ever listen to the Hue?
I’ve never listened to that one.
Hello Dixie
Tim kinda spicy tho lmfao
if jeff goldblum is a band teacher
Never knew Joe Satriani was such a good drummer..
If you wish to react to a song you might not have heard of, I would say Aesthetic Perfection - Gods and Gold
Hello dear
Tim Henson is one of if not the Greatest guitarists of all time and you cannot change my mind
Totally agree with you. He blows my mind.
My opinion is there music is like elevator music on cocaine! Love Tim!!!
You should check out each members playtrough. Especially Tim and Clay. There is also a live video of Clay losing is in ear monitor for 30 minutes. The solution is amazing
Thanks I’ll check it out.
Hey Bob!
If you haven't heard of him, I'd love to see you check out Luca Stricagnoli. He plays a custom three-neck guitar with one neck being an upside-down acoustic bass. It's mind-blowing!
I'll link two songs. It really _needs_ to be a song you're pretty familiar with, so do whichever song you know and like the best!
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Can't Stop czcams.com/video/o2mkYv3JrjU/video.html
Gorillaz - Feel Good Inc czcams.com/video/Z6_HlOqy2C0/video.html
The _reason_ it needs to be a song you're reasonably familiar with is because he does very nearly a note-for-note cover of _all parts at once_ **including percussion!** You have to see it to believe it.
Those two are some of my favorites. Love them.
Wow,kepalamu seperti lampu taman, sangat bersinar,
Gee thanks🤷♂️
He kill every guitar player...of old days
Scott needs more love man.
So true. I’ve got another one coming out and he gets his due in that one.

Exactly. Not right.

i think playing god should be taken less literally...more like playing rock gods, they're playing their concert in the hall, then they're practicing while in very relaxed poses in their hotel rooms, where the whistle (very reminiscent of elevator Muzak) comes in.
I just saw them in concert and wow they are just as amazing live.
I didn't see them recently, but yeah it's not like going to a Dragonforce or Modest Mouse concert, for sure.
