Now, for sure larry didn't have the best opposition ever but the list of his fights against the likes of " shavers, norton, weaver, berbick, leon spinks, snipes, cooney, witherspoon, bonecrusher smith " isn' bad neither. Even much older, he still was competitive ( except tyson ) vs the likes of Mercer, Holyfield and Mccall. All this combined made him a great fighter in my book :)

This is the only pro fight I ever saw. Came to see Ali and Ali couldn't handle the heat or Holmes. He was dehydrated and the fight was outside in the parking lot of Caesars on a hot desert night. Ali's doctor told me at dinner that he would be alright, they had the salt pills 'just right'. Ali was done after the first round and never looked good for the rest of the fight. R.I.P. Champ.

Muchos lo consideraran un poco descabellado enfrentarse a un boxeador joven en las condiciones en que estaba, pues se notaba mucho la desventaja, pero hay una cosa, muhamad ali fue muy valiente y estuvo en la pelea hasta el final, como hombrecito, digno de destacar e igual le mandó varios golpes al otro, no te la llevaste pelada, igual te pegó, y ali pegaba fuerte. I can't believe referee Richard Green didn't stop the fight in the 9th round. Crazy ! Larry was all class after the fight he respected Ali and he went right over to Ali after the fight.
In the the 8th and 9th round, Holmes could have battered Ali more than he did because he held back his punches. Holmes didnt feel good punching Ali like a punching bag. In the 10th, Ali was done and the ref could have called the fight near the end of the 10th round.

Just 2 years removed from the Shavers fight and has nothing left. Big mistake fighting Holmes here and a bad decision by all involved.

Saddest fight you’ll ever see all round, on one hand Ali wasn’t right so he couldn’t do anything which broke everyone’s heart. On Larry Holmes side is he tried to end it early but Ali hasn’t got the ability to get Knocked out, unlike Tyson or anyone after him Ali won’t be Knocked out so Holmes legacy really got effected negatively by this fight. Honesty money was good for Holmes and Ali but I bet they looking back they both wish this fight didn’t happen. Holmes was a great but man he was hated and Until Tyson Boxing was in a terrible place. It’s a shame Tyson couldn’t live up to his potential because Tyson really could have been up there with the GOAT’s, still one of the most exciting, but barely top 12 let alone top 10 HW’s.
Angelo Dundee is to be commended for assertively stopping the fight, imo. Because if left to his own devices, Ali would have gotten up off that stool, and been even more severely beaten. He was as strong-willed as they came.

Ali lost like 37 pound in just over 6 weeks, there was very little to no liquid left in his body, especially in his brain. Its not hard to imagine how damaging it would have been getting hit in the head this way with less fluid in the brain.

Este tipo es lo mas cercano a rocky balboa. Que pena que hayan programado una pelea tan injusta, pero cacius clay se merece mis respetos. Muchos lo consideraran un poco descabellado enfrentarse a un boxeador joven en las condiciones en que estaba, pues se notaba mucho la desventaja, pero hay una cosa, muhamad ali fue muy valiente y estuvo en la pelea hasta el final, como hombrecito, digno de destacar e igual le mandó varios golpes al otro, no te la llevaste pelada, igual te pegó, y ali pegaba fuerte. Que pena que el otro boxeador se halla prestado para esto, pero a ali lo deben haber presionado mucho para aceptar esta pelea y dió la pelea, realmente un valiente y el otro boxeador aunque halla ganado al mejor del mundo, la pelea no fue pareja, se notaba mucho en los fisicos y en un ali con afeccion por el parkinson. Que pena que el boxeo se halla prestado para esto. Por todos lados la pelea no fue justa pero ali fue un valiente, por eso pienso yo, tantos lo admiraban.
@Diego Maiden claro. Yo no se mucho de historia del box. Soy del 79 y si peleaba por esas fechas yo era muy pequeño para ver sus peleas. Mi padre me hablaba mucho de el y de lo extraordinario que era en el boxeo.

Es de los alemanes que desactivaban minas antipersonales, pero eran jovenes obligados a realizar este trabajo, casi como prisioneros, no tenian opción, ellos tenian que hacerlo. Por donde se mirara un suicidio. Lo único que los animaba era poder terminar el trabajo y regresar a su país vivos. Para esto tenían que hacerlo sin errores.

I can't believe referee Richard Green didn't stop the fight in the 9th round. Crazy ! Larry was all class after the fight he respected Ali and he went right over to Ali after the fight.

In the the 8th and 9th round, Holmes could have battered Ali more than he did because he held back his punches. Holmes didnt feel good punching Ali like a punching bag. In the 10th, Ali was done and the ref could have called the fight near the end of the 10th round.
