(Canon T3, T3i, T6, T6i, SL2, SL3, 70D, 80D, 90D, etc...). In this basic camera tutorial for Photography I show how to finally move off of auto mode and use your camera in manual. While I use the Canon eos Rebel T3 in the video, all buttons would essentially be the same for the Canon T6, Canon T7, Canon m50, etc. All of the info is applicable to anyone with any camera that is wanting to learn more about DSLR manual photography for beginners.

Hi Shawn. I have a Rebel T3, or 1100 D as its known over here in the UK. Having been stored away for about 6 months I went to switch it on a few days ago but it wouldn't power up. I tried 2 fully charged batteries and also removed and reinserted the SD Card without success. Any ideas on how to solve the problem would be gratefully received. Also, if the camera proves to be uneconomical to repaired due to its age, would you recommend the 2000 D or Rebel T7 as you know it, as a good entry level replacement.
@@bovinestool1681 Sorry, I have no idea what the problem could be. It seems like it could be a battery to camera connection issue, but I don't really know. As far as the 2000D, on the Photography side of things, it's a great choice. If you are doing video too, then it depends. If 1080p is good and you don't really care about being able to plug in an external mic, and you don't care about continuous autofocus in video, then it would also be good. If any of those things matter to you for video, you might want to check out the "i" version of these cameras (no 4k) or a Canon SL2 (no 4k) or the SL3 (cropped 4k), or the Canon m50 (mirrorless instead of DSLR, but mostly the same, cropped 4k). Hope that helps...
Thanks for the advice Shawn. I'll be watching more of your videos for further tips.
I checked out the other videos on how to use the rebel canon.
Good thing I did because of your videos, I learned how to use the spot meter in both manual and auto focus.
Which by the way, was something that a friend of mine and I were discussing.
He asked me last week, when we were out shooting pictures. "Does your camera square focus box in the view finder turn green when it lock focus on the subject?"
He was showing me how his camera can spot meter and lock focus on the subject. And I had no idea how to do that. I said to my friend, "No, my camera doesn't have that feature." And he said no more about it.
But thanks to your videos, I found out that my camera does spot meter and focus lock on my subjects.
So keep up the good work.
View the pictures that I took and posted on CZcams: OSP Band Downtown Winston-Salem, NC and Jamming OSP Band (Old School Players).
This was the first time in awhile that I actually went out and took pictures.
I know a little more now, so my next shoot will be better.
Again, thanks for your teaching!
How can you crop photos on the canon rebel t3?
Every single camera tutorial should be set up like this. Not only do you explain what each function does and how to use it on that particular camera, but you show the consequences and results of using those functions, with different pictures to prove your point. BRAVO. Also, I love all of your fun toys and gadgets you have hanging around as your subjects. That makes it even better. And your son is adorable!
Glad it was helpful and thanks for the wonderful feedback...it's much appreciated! The toys are very cooperative models to work with...👍
Agrée, wonderful tutorial Shawn., thank you!
Agreeeeeeeee. I just got one so I’m learning. This is the best one yet

Thank you for you great, great tutorial. I almost went and bought a point and shoot because I have no idea how to use a nice camera like this. Now I do. Only a few minutes with you and I am happy as can be. Your video was awesome. Now I can start using this cool camera I was able to get. Thank you again sir.
You just made me learn so much about my camera wow. I've had it for YEARS and I had no idea.
Nice! Glad I could help you to maybe get some good pictures now. Enjoy.
I watched this all the way through. Very well done!
thanks. much appreciated!
This was amazing Shawn. Thanks for the tutorial.
I love taking photos with phones and hate doing it with cameras, I think it's because of the ease of use. The phone has a large display screen and lots of build in filters and setting. While a camera is capable of more, it just seems like Its just less fun as a hobbie to use the camera lol Hopefully some day I'll overcome this gap keeping me from really enjoying it to its full potential, for now I'll continue studying.
Thank you for the awesome walk through and demonstrations!
another great production👍
