We had a border collie who was abused because he would not work. After a few months, we figured out the farmer had gotten him as a 6 week old puppy with no training. One day, we noticed he was acting different, my husband and I are both diabetic. He was alerting on both of us, and we were both having low blood sugar crises. So we ended up with the best of both worlds, we had a wonderful pet, and he had a job he loved for over 13 years.
Sounds like he was ment for you guys
Smart! ❤
❤
My Tess also altered me to my Diabetes when she was quite young. Her son, Maxwell Smart, became a service dog for a young girl with CP and the girl's mother discovered that Max could her to Kelsey's seizures. Kelsey soon learned to know how amazing was alerting her-by scent.
I love all of them but for me there's something about Kate that melts my heart 🥰
They're all very different characters considering Storm then Echo (grandson) came from Kate.
Kate is the perfect example of 'right human + patience + time + plus a Litter = Kate gained confidence.
Kindness and patience cost nothing but are priceless.
I agree, there's something special about Kate but all 3 are wonderful
I Love Sean the Sheepman.
Storm? Is that you? 😅
Always good to hear more about our fav CZcams dogs :)))
Me too.
YES FOR ME BASIC IM SHOCKED PEOPLE DONT HONOR DOGS LET THEM COME TO WORK ACCEPT PERSONALITY FIRM ALPHA SO THE DOG FEELS SAFE BECAUSE HAVE STRONG LEADER PROTECTOR YES DOG BARKS I ALWAYS CK TO SEE WHAT THEIR TELLING ME MY DOGS ONLY BARK WHEN THERES A PURPOSE

I loved this episode. In between all your wisdom, I couldn't help thinking about a rescue dog called Charm. I feel privileged to have known him for a few years. He was a *large* BC -- lean but closer to a golden retriever in size. His size extended to his attitude. No dog in the neighbourhood was any threat. We walked past a property with two very aggro German shepherds almost daily. The day their gate was open he allowed the "alpha" to munch on his skirt before turning to inform him quietly that both of their throats could be ripped out at his discretion. He was scared of nothing -- until he encountered a herd of cows.
Shepherds know their limitations after an agile, aggressive BC has whispered 'I'll cut you'
One person dog, my Katie Ann Dog. I love border collies.
I can see and understand what you mean about your BC. Mine is a pet and she was always timid. She is a pet but very energetic. We keep her busy and I take her mostly everywhere with me..She is more of a one person dog when it comes to training. She listens to me but fortunately she has a love for all of us. I now have her sire who was a working dog for horses and he is pretty independent but shows love for us because we care now for him. The Hand at the farm next door trained him and took him places and cared for him but died. Poor Jake became the odd dog out. He used to swing on the horse's tails because nobody paid attention to him. The person who owns the farm who employed the Hand who died did take care of Jake and he healed but had a messed up tooth. I asked if I could have him if he would stay with me. I live next to the horse farm. Our property backs up to this farm. Jake visits over there now daily but comes back to me because I told him I would care for him. He is beautiful now but about 14. He is my dogs sire. I love BCs but I definitely do see the difference in independent attitude between father and daughter. Thank you for sharing your videos. I love to see your dogs working.
That thumbnail! 😊 Pure dog happiness... 💕🐾
👏 for having a sponsor! This company couldn't wish for better ambassadors than your happiness spreading dogs.
You are so kind
Is one of your sponsors some kind of political candidate? Cuz in my viewing, I got a guy named Jon (something), but I have no idea where he is running, or who he is..? I really don’t want politicians interrupting your video.
I love watching your dogs work and play. I wanted to be a farmer or rancher when I was a kid, my dad told me, no, you don't ( he came from a ranching family). I believed him then, but now, I always feel a bit jealous when I see others living that life. So thanks for sharing a bit of that life with us. ❤
Great 👍I, m a great grandad but I feel 25 when I listen to you great energy and honesty😊your guardians are amazing🙏
That's a lovely comment, Sir.
Wow, thank you
Great video!! I watched it sitting outside with my pet bc!! Everything he does is done with great intensity and at full speed!😅 and he is 100% a one person dog. He likes our family and really likes meeting strangers but he loves me!! I am the lucky one❤🇨🇦
You ARE the lucky one. If you dontvknow this, here's a tip... I learned by having BCs. As they get older, they get more "needy." So, if they just come over to you and push their head into your lap. Stop whatever you're doing and "dote" on you BC by rubbing his head and telling what a good boy (or girl) they are. You won't have to do this for too long. They just want some love and reassurance RIGHT THEN, so give it to them and they will bond even MORE to you.
That is awesome! Thanks
I ADORE your Border Collies; ADORE!! ❤❤❤
“If you train like an athlete, you become an athlete”. ❤
Can't get enough of those wonderful, wicked-smart doggies and their awesome human. As always, thanks for sharing and making everyone's day better. Always a treat to watch your videos!❤
Yay for a Great sponsorship!! And for the information about how to behave around working dogs. Same if course applies to guide or assistive dogs - always ask the handler before interacting with a working dog!! (Or any dog, tbh) Thank you Sean! And big hello to Stacy 💐 from Canada Pacific Coast
Totally agree! Thank you
My father was a dairy farmer and we had a border collie “Lady” . She was a working dog but would socialize with us kids but as you said they are busy and was always with my dad and followed everything he said or did.
Watching your videos is always a treat. I love whatever the topic is. You are such a great example of what a sheep herder should be. You always teach us something new. Love the dogs too. The world would be a better place if there were more people like you.
Wow, thank you!
Thanks, Sean. Good information as always. God bless you all.
Thanks for watching!
Sean,
Thank you for sharing the inner workings of a working dog. All the best to you and Stacy.
Thank you too!
I’ve had dogs for my entire 60 years and I don’t know how you seperate the work side from the pet side. Thankfully I’ve only had four dogs because they all lived very long lives. Each of them were special and unique. I had a serious accident 10 years ago and I am no longer able to work but every minute of the weeks of surgeries and hospital all I thought about was getting home to my best mate. He was 19 back then and I knew his time was short. He waited for me and a few weeks later he let me know he’d had enough. The physical pain was nothing compared to what that did to me. I swore I’d never have another one but I became aware of a border collie that needed rehoming. I battled with it being too soon but I went to meet him. He was a bundle of energy which was a problem at first because he didn’t understand I couldn’t walk properly or catch him when he jumped but very quickly he grew to understand. His name is Lenny and he’s the very image of Storm with the grey facial hair. He’s the same age now too. My absolute greatest fear is him not being around anymore. I am lucky we are together every minute of the day but I do feel guilty I’ve held him back. Losing my last collie shattered me. More than losing any family member. After all the work your dogs do, how do you feel when it’s time to say goodbye. 😢
Interesting information about the differences between workers and pets. It was so cute to see Storm giving her Daddy some love! She is such an amazing athlete. Her physicality reminds me of a story of my brother, who (now retired) often had to work up in the mountains around Southern California, measuring and doing chemical analysis of water. When he crouched down, facing the streams to take water samples and measure flow rates, he would be vulnerable to attacks by mountain lions, etc. So he brought his Airedale along to keep watch. His dog ran beside the truck as my brother drove into these remote, isolated areas at high elevation. My brother brought his dog for a checkup once, and the vet listened to his dog's heart rate and commented, "Are you training him for a marathon?!!" His heart was SO strong due to running at high altitude that very few beats were needed to pump his blood. Anyway, the sight of Storm running in the field brought that story to mind. I bet she has very few heartbeats needed per minute to circulate blood. What a girl!!
That sounds awesome
TRUE.OF ME TO WALKER DANCER ACTIVE PULSE ALWAYS RAN 58 ACTUALLY SAVED MY LIFE I HAVE BIG COLLATERAL

Congrats on the sponsor, especially because you really believe in the product! Keep up the great content
Thank you! Will do!
Always love your videos. Hooray for the sponsor! Good for them for seeing the value in your channel
I appreciate that!
Great video again Sean, thru the video I see the great interaction they have with each other, pure love, a little eye-opener they do wind-down almost!
I am so glad that I found this channel. It is not only educational, it is entertaining, as well. Sean and his crew are a joy to watch working...the responsiveness of the dogs to his commands, their speed, agility, and athleticism.
Love your working dog videos. The dogs obviously love you and love what they do. Great job!
Thank you very much!
You are to be saluted for this very mature insight into working versus pet dogs. You already prove to have acquired more wisdom on this beautiful bond than many a dog owner ever have or bother to learn. Your dogs are lucky to have an owner like you.
Fascinating information and it makes perfect sense! Athletic dogs --- wow! So interesting how all animals "choose" their humans and/or other animal BFFs. Thank you for your insights!!
I have a pet English Shepherd and a pet cat ... but I work from home on rural acreage in NW Montana so we are all out and about together ... no livestock but wildlife: whitetail deer, turkey, fox, raccoon, moose, elk, bear.
Sounds lovely there I wish we had moose
Sean - way to go. You’re up to 200K subscribers!!! I remember when you were at like 2.5 subscribers. So happy for you and Stacey. Congratulations and continue to grow. 💕🐾
Thanks so much!!
I love the insights to working dogs. Thank you!
Any time!
From my working dogs , I` m a South Russia Owtscharka breeder, - to your working dogs, working dogs are always the happiest in the World.... Your Kate is a great dog! - On my picture you see Masha- Rusha. She is my "youngster", and she love it to protect her herd with her sisters an brothers.... Best wishes from Russia.
Loved the video! Your dogs seems so joyful to me. If I could talk dog (or dogs could talk human) I think many would tell me they'd like to have jobs and (a lot) more independence. And I bet they'd all want a job interview with You.
Thank you
Kate will always be my favorite. Her face and expressions are the best, in my opinion.
Thanks for this video! Certainly helped me understand my pet Border collie/Aussie’s social behavior around other dogs - when she is fixated on playing ball, that’s her job and she’s very aggressive towards other pets who come near her, other than that - she loves to meet new dogs when she’s not ‘on the job’ - I love Border Collies and I love watching Storm just run through the open fields!
Yay, I'm so happy for your sponsorship Sean. Its great to see your channel grow and collaborations come through. I love seeing your dogs, just cane stop grinning every time I watch your videos. Storm just can't give enough kisses to you when filming. I think she knows shes on camera when you say "hello guys" and has to do her part of giving her papa lots of love...Had no idea she had so much energy even after a full day's running around.. amazing dog
Really informative !! Love your love for your pack.
I love these dogs so much. This channel is the reason I like the internet.
Thanks
Super interesting, Sean! Your insights give a new dimension to understanding and enjoying the videos.
Awesome, thank you!
We are Wildflower Acres Farm, a goat farm with mostly purebred Kiko's but we have Boer, ND, and some mixed breed goats as well. My wife Susan is the goat Master. We are in North Florida USA. We have Anatolian Shepherd LGDs. Our inside dogs love to watch your dogs work the sheep 🐑.
Haha!! Like watching a live hiking or skiing or mountain climbing show for humans... this is what the more active, athletic members of our species is doing. Love it!
Great video, Sean! It made me wonder if your dogs are the only working dogs on the farm where you work. Somehow, I was surprised when you mentioned that they might hang around with other dogs. I like to think that Kate, Storm and Echo are the center of the border collie universe! Lol!
My work colleagues have dogs too there are 3 other dogs around atm
Energy intensifies in working dogs.... my pet BC took that statement as a challenge 😂
I did live in Islay for a while '70- 73, 8yrs-old and from Glasgow suburbs was a culture shock! Big Lamont was my pal, had a Croft mostly feed I think ,his great Dad was also the Bin Lorry Driver every week! Lots of hens and ducks in the outbuildings and a handful of Cows or less..But I'd forgotten about the Collie they had; Sheep were further afield and not often visit but a whistle, he'd appear ready from nowhere! I think this Boy done his own thing when not needed, not looking for a pet when I was around often, almost invisible, me and Lamont Campbell staved two fenceposts into the field closest to house as Hampden's Goalposts(square sided in those days, look it up;) and he'd batter balls at me, Goalkeeper Pat Jennings was my hero those days and good training but aye...the Dug had no interest in Football of any ball 😄
Thank you
💓Storm is my spirit animal 💕
from the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, I send my love and appreciation for this channel.
It's such a joy listening and watching you with that amazing animals. The way you talking about them, respect for them and understandig their needs it's incredible. I wish you and the pack all the best
I’m curious how you introduce your dogs to new people? It’d be great to see a video of that. 😊
Great idea!
I really appreciate it when folks ask "can I bet your dog?" BEFORE they approach. Helps with a VERY strong athletic pup of a dog who ADORES folks to a fault sometimes :)
Great vid., even if I wasn't learning stuff your dogs are a joy to watch. And you have such clean ears! I have a crossbred Anatolian Shepherd Border Collie who was five years old when I rescued him. He had been guarding goats against leopards, jackals and baboons on the mountainside. I've had him for four years now, he is still aloof and reserved, polite to visitors but MY DOG. Still prefers to sleep outside, drink from a bottle, and eat once a day at five o'clock. But I am mortified by the fact that my other dogs have taught him to bounce at livestock when they wander up against our garden fence. I wouldn't trust him in the field again. It's quite sad.
Very interesting - our late Border Collie, although he wasn't a working dog, he was incredibly independent - I notice a lot of Borders here in Tassie aren't on leashes & our boy was never keen. He liked to lead but he'd always wait for me, especially, if I was dragging (taking photos!) he'd sit & wait until I caught up, then off he'd trot! Even if we were off being busy, if it wasn't of interest to him he'd go off & do his own thing. We miss him awfully. He never bothered the hens, while the Kelpie we had at the time was a horror, & he loved horses - so, I agree one of the most important things for dog owners who go out into the countryside, is to teach their dog manners. I see folk in UK still walking their dogs tru fields of animals with young @ foot & being surprised that the cattle or sheep don't like it, and sometimes it doesn't end well - for them & their dog.
Maybe you could show - if possible, how to educate a pup not to bother other animals. Our current Kelpie who we've had from 6-mos is oblivious to chickens & was very good around horses. You have lovely dogs (we do sort of think dogs can be a bit of a reflection of their keepers!) thanks for sharing them.
Thanks I might make a video like that
My parents grew up on ranches but moved to the city as young adults. It took them a lot of years before they were able to wrap their heads around the idea of dogs and even cats for that matter as pets that lived in the house and didn’t “work”.
Great video! I love watching your working dogs because they’re such an integral part of your profession. I’ve never been around that, but am always so amazed at their attention to your commands and obedience. It’s a joy to see them on the job and how helpful they are to you, and your dedication to training and caring for them. I’m happy I came across these videos to watch this story from around the world and I’m so invested in how you and your pack are doing! ❤❤❤
Thank you so much!
So great to see the relationship between you and the dogs. It’s fantastic to see that they have the ability to life their life doing what they love in Such a beautiful place.
Thank you
Once again I love listening to you and learning about the sheep dogs life and rules, thank you Sean.
I just discovered your channel and i have been binge watching BIG TIME. Those dogs are so lucky to have you. Thank You for posting. Its beautiful to see. ❤❤
Super informative, Sean! Love watching your dogs working. Congrats on the 200k subs! 🐑☺️
200K subs!! That's awesome!
Thanks so much!
Each video increases how I think of your countryside ... it's just fabulous!!
Happy to hear that!
Very interesting, thank you Sean.
Sean, Stacy, and those amazing BCs, you have changed my life! Big serotonin boosts every time I watch one of your videos. Thank you so much! ❤❤❤
Excellent
I think you live in dog paradise!
Sean being like 'don't pet them like pets'; but being like, stroke them with love'🫠❤❤
I taught my dogs the word “friend” which I have to say, which has them relax around company. I have one border collie mix who desperately wants and needs a job.
Thanks for another informative video as always.. !!😊👍
No problem 👍
Love your videos and this was very informative and interesting. Thank you for sharing and educating us.
You are so welcome!
Brilliant, Sean! Thank you for such an informative video. ✨💖✨
You're so welcome!
In love watching your videos. Your life is very different to mine. When I see all the bored Sofa dogs here in germany, it is refreshing to see dogs in there natural enviroment.
I got a little one-mini schnauzer-from the pound. As a pup I was his third owner. Three days in the shelter called and said if you have to give him up do it quickly. I would never do that to him but already understood what they were talking about. He needs to do some serious mileage with me every day, no days off or he is depressed. At 11 years we ran but I hurt my knee so we walk run. I can’t let him just run free because he’s such a mouser etc. he will chase in front of a car and we have big predators. He’s my little buddy. Not a lap dog. Big watch dog on it all night. People need to know how much exercise their pet requires in advance. He needs a muzzle at the vets and wants to pick fights with bigger animals but that has less ones with getting him used to kids and dogs. He’s smart about bears. We love the sheep dogs we encounter so much. Shy and big hearts. Thank you for showing us your beautiful dogs.
Hey Sean, your dogs are amazing!! Love to watch them work!! I have had three BC, two mixed and the current one is a pure bred!! Nuttier than a fruit cake, but so loving and kind!! One man dog!! Keep up the good work and we'll keep watching!! BC are the greatest dogs ever!! Thanks!!
I love these dogs, they are so incredible and you work them so well!💜
What an informative video! And congratulations on the sponsor! You know, my cousin had two bird dogs ( Brittany spaniels)and it is somewhat the same as with herding dogs. They were well trained for their job, but also very high energy, and not necessarily fond of strangers. They weren’t aggressive with people they didn’t know, just very stand offish. like your dogs, very independent and could entertain themselves. Also, they were one man dogs. Perhaps working dogs of different types have a lot in common.
Yes I find a lot of different working dogs are like that
My son has a non-working border collie, grandson a non-working Aus. cattle dog. They have way more energy than I'd want in a dog, yet it's clear they are pretty relaxed compared to the actual working versions of their breed. 😊 The cattle dog is very young, so she's still pretty wild. 😂 Luckily, they live on a 10,000 acre hay ranch!🎉
I had a Red Healer in Australia once. The most loyal and fiercely protective dog I've ever had or known. We could leave him in the back of the Ute with all the tools and he'd protect it while we got dinner in the pub after a long work week. Great, loving dogs.
That is awesome! Thank you
Your farming, land & animal knowledge is phenomenal, Sean! More importantly your care of all animals around you is truly special-thank you for sharing all of this with us, it’s very special & important…not just entertaining (although it is) Your perspective is so important for others to hear-thank you for taking the time, cheers
LOVE your dogs. Also love my border collie Patriot. One and ONLY dog I have ever LOVED all 42 lbs. of her. We live on high mountain, open range. she has never been around herd animals. She LOVES people. But cattle run this land and 4 came onto the property. First we drove them off with her on a lead (that was really something - she IS strong!) Thought they were gone. Nope, 1 hour later they were back. She is rarely on lead and off she went after them-on her own this time. Vanished off into the forest in a FLASH! I thought I had lost her. Kept calling her back. Then there she was bounding to me. I could feel tears coming. Well, she did her job VERY well. Those buggers didn't come back again!! Drove around in the UTV and couldn't even find them. Good girl 🥰. She keeps ALL chipmunks out of chicken coop and garden!! Love, love, love this dog!!!!!!!
Another great video! Congratulations on the Gilbertson & Page sponsorship & reaching 200K subscribers Sean!
Yes! Thank you!
That il do!! one of your best videos! love watching them work but first have to understand them, you bring out their personalities often but so true with working dogs not to be interfered with such as a service dog unless asking the person first. Love watching and learning about these beauties Kristine Scarpetti, Chicago Away!!
Wow, thank you!
A big difference i also notice is the will to please but at the same time their stubbornness. I have 2 working borders (on sheep) at home and work with them 6 days a week. One of them listens like no other, the other is always off doing her own thing and i have to call her back every 5 minutes when we are at the stock. She just sneakily walks up to them, acting like she isnt doing anything. Moves the sheep a few feet back and keeps doing that everywhere around. Great to see when out herding but not great if they move them out of the place the sheep had to eat.
I let my border collie go this morning. She was 17 years old and having lots of mobility issues, so it was the right (if hard) thing. I thought that it would be a while before I could watch yours doing their thing, but it actually is helping a little…
Wow, Storm is running like the wind! The fact that her own four legs are continually her preferred form of transport is amazing!
I've read up on Boarder Collies, even pets need something to doto keep them active.Sean, we lived in the middle of no where when I was in middle school age. We had black angus cattle in an open barn, and chickens. We had a samoyed named snopper who thought he was one of the kids. When a calf would get out of the fence we kids help Dad round any who were out. If it weren't for snooper we wouldn't have gotten all of them out. Like Storm He loved to run. I think it is marvelous you let your dogs be them selves. Thank you for sharing, I always learn alot from you.😎😎
What a beautiful simple life you live. This is what happiness and peace looks like.
Congratulations on reaching 200K subscribers! And now having a sponsor 👍🏼
Yes! Thank you!
NO DOUBT who the Alpha dog is. While BCs have the POWER to drive a full herd, they are subservient and committed to their owner... with such a STRONG BOND (missed and misunderstood by so many people). Look at how Storm climbs into Sean's lap and continually demands attention while licking Sean constantly. THAT behavior is SO Border Collie. They want you to REALLY know how much they like you.... and are READY TO WORK... like RIGHT NOW !! Storm actually wanted Sean to tell her... "Let's go!" ... and then head out to WORK !!!
Nutrition is number one key to a dog's longevity and well-being. I avoid chicken-based foods for my BCs.
Another great and informative Vlog. Thank you Sean. 🐾
Glad you enjoyed it
I love watching your wonderful dogs, and how you treat them and understand them.
Sean, that was very interesting. It is wonderful to see your dogs so loved and so happy. They have the best life.
I love to see how you give this breed A JOB! So many pet owners get this breed and don’t understand them
I hope you know how much joy you give by your videos!
Fascinating! Thanks so much for all the info on working vs pet dogs. I've always loved watching working dogs do their thing, and your videos are a real treat!
I'm crazy about dogs..and sheep..so this is great viewing for me..gorgeous life you have Sean.
200K followers! Not too shabby. 🏆
We had a collie who would wake up my sister when sugar was low or high❤❤He was. Clever pup We got him at 8 wks and enjoyed his company and his brother’s for 12 years
Great video- since working dogs often work as a pack therefore you become their pack leader, not just their human.
"Working dogs are different than pets..." Storm proceeds to give Sean a bath...great video!
I love how much your dogs love you. Good stuff.
I'm impressed by these very strong, lively, and cool dogs.😄❤
Not being a farm girl, very interestsing to hear about all the aspects of that life and of the dogs. And wow, can Storm run!
I am a service dog handler for 11yrs. They are mastiffs. I have 3. One retired. One current and one in training. I socialized with public but that means being around but not focused on. They are independent for responsible disobedience to protect from danger situations. They are a family but they look to me for commands.
Beatiful and intelligent dogs! Take carne of them with love and sure they Will continue to do an excelente job! Saludos desde México y nos encanta el contenido. Bendiciones a ti y a los perritos!!!😊
What a beautiful life you seem to have... made more so by your awesome doggies. I love your videos. 😊
A terrific video thanks
Always amazed how Storm can take off and run top speed.
Sounds like a happy life for the dog s.
You are right in everything you said. Especially about the end. I've always been the one who the dogs responded to. But now I can't work with them like before and the new one is not my partner she is my husbands. She will do well for me in the house but out side she is all his. But as you say he is with her a lot more and a lot longer than me. Plus she is doing what she likes. I loved this video and highly recommend it to any one who is new to the breed or already has them as a reminder of what category they are in. great job explaining.
Thank you so much
