Notion is an amazing tool to build the Operating System for your company. But it also comes with a big learning curve.
When you're just starting to use Notion, it's easy to get some basics wrong that will hurt you later down the line.
So in this video, I'm going to share a blueprint company setup in Notion with you that you can use as the perfect foundation to run your business in Notion.
You'll learn how to set up your databases, build a company landing page, dashboards for your teams and individual contributors and even a company wiki.
Once done, you'll be able to organise your team members, teams, OKRs, projects, tasks, docs and your CRM all in Notion.
And since this is a blueprint, you can easily adapt it to your own use cases.

Thank you very much Matthias, it is brilliant, a lot of value !
Glad that you enjoyed it! ☺️ is there anything else you‘d like to see in the future?
Hi Matthias, I really liked your approach on how to build this template and some of it's features like the buttons for projects, docs.
Something that I didn't thought about when I build systems is how you stored team dashboards into a database, that approach was awesome!
I have watched in the past more videos from your channel and I have to admit there is no difference with the work you do in comparison with other Notion creators who have millionaire followers / subscribers.
Keep the good work 💡 👏🏻 🙏🏻
Oh wow, thank you so much! That really means a lot to here ☺️
Is there anything else you‘d like me to cover in future videos? 💪🏻
@@mfreihaendig Yes, how to create views from a single database for assignees so they can see only the tasks that are assigned to them 🥲 😄 - I believe that would be the most demanding feature in Notion - hope to see it soon!
@@mfreihaendig Well, guess what..😁I would like to setup different views from a single database where each view would show only the tasks that are assigned to corresponding assignees without the possibility for them to be able to see other database items except from the ones that are assigned to them..🥳🥲 Hope to see that feature soon! 🔜
Hi Matthias! Great work! Thank you for sharing your knowledge! I like the business template. Is it possible to create a database for notes in the backend and limit users' access to their notes? If not, what would be a good workaround for a note taking system for individual users?
Granular access rights is notions biggest weakness right now - basically, you can’t set easy rules to say „show these parts of the database, but not those“
So for a notes database, you could restrict access overall and then give access on an individual basis, but that’s quite cumbersome
My recommendation in general would be: if possible, embrace transparency and encourage everyone to add notes to one central database - then, you can use filters and views to ensure everyone always only sees relevant information (just be aware that everything could be accessed)
Or define several access levels and use this method here:

Thank you very much Matthias! can you explain how to map a team-member relation propery from the user person using make?
It would be great!
Yes of course! Basically, you need to retrieve the ID part
To do so, it’s best to have the Notion account on the team member database - that can be used to retrieve the corresponding ID per person and then you can fill it into whatever person property you need ☺️
@@mfreihaendig Thank you Matthias! Done with make! Also, for achieve this, you can filter by user inside of an automation, really cool because people could have an only read role but the change it's made in the page because it's Notion who makes it.
I'm struggling to understand how to onboard someone properly and I really need your help. Thanks for the understanding man
Onboarding can be tough to give general advice on - really comes down to your individual needs in your business, the role of the person and so on
I‘ll make a video on that in the future with some guidelines 💪🏻
Make sure to use user groups as detailed in the beginning of the video and then set the access rights to can edit content as explained in the end
@@mfreihaendig I'll do that, please make the video as your probably aware it's a huge thing for me and core element that can't be hijacked. Appreciate the template tho elevated my business workspace at the perfect time. Wishing you much success bro 🙌🏻
@@mfreihaendig I need that asap bro
Heyy, im trying to download this template and i've suscribe with different emails but i still haven't got it!
Thanks for all your videos
Hmmm weird - do you just want to send me an email from the account you subscribed with so I can check? ☺️
Hey Matthias. Thank you for the video. How do I access your free templates? Your link take me to a page - but no link to the templates.
The page should have a sign-up form 💪🏻 once you fill that out, you’ll get an email with all templates right away ☺️
(So if you don’t want to stay on the newsletter to receive any future templates or Notion tips, you can unsubscribe immediately after)
@@mfreihaendig thanks - my adblocker blocked it.
Hey man, firstly your super helpful and I appreciate the time you put in to make this. I'm just wondering tho... What's the reason for the team directory database if there is a responsibility page already there the (person) property. I hope you understand my questions sorry if a little confusing
Also what would be your main choice for highlighting on new databases you'd create
What do you mean with highlighting? 🤔
Well it’s mostly to have a central place that contains all relevant information about your team - like how to reach them, roles, teams etc.
You can use the person property well to assign things, but since it doesn’t allow you to query it anywhere you’d only have “traces” everywhere in the system, not a central place ☺️
I basically want to understand which property I should use when assigning a member onto a new database. The notion account or the database you created… it’d be easier for me to stick with one. What would you recommend?
@@bartekstanda8282 for assigning items, you always want to use Notion's built-in people property - because that allows you to set the flexible "me" filter afterwards 💪🏻
Hi Matthias, do you think one could be a notion consultant for life ?
So many angles to that question 😅
In what sense? Job security? Fun? Rewards? 😎
@mfreihaendig in terms of job security mainly
What's the point of this if you don't make a onboarding video. Nobody can actually use this without the most important proponent (action) and actual use. Please make this video. Keep it up brother
Great suggestion 💪🏻
You talk way too fast! But anyways thx for the Video!
Haha apologies! I have a hard time slowing down 😅
Have you tried setting the video to 0.75 speed? 😎
Danke jetzt ist angenehm :D! Btw, diese Funktion bei Filter das man als Responsible Person "me" auswählt funktioniert bei mir nicht, was kann das sein? Lg
