  • Problems with my turn lights started 4 months ago, in the beginning I didnt take too much interest in it, because outside was rather cold weather and this happened very randomly and very rarely. But recently when ever i was driving with my Renault Megane II I noticed this almost every time when I was driving, not all the time on, but just time to time.
    The best way how to start diagnoses, is by getting out of the car and checking if turn light bulbs work and any of those has not been blown out, because if any of those would, this my cause similar effect on your car dashboard. But in my case both worked fine, but lucky for me it was easy to identify where to start to look for a problem since rear blinker blinked together with brake light bulb :)
    As you will see on my video this is rather easy quick and won't cost you too much or even nothing if you will have some spare sandpaper and some tool with which you will can scratch the rust away. The bad part is that the problem may come back after some time, it depends of how well you will take care of the rust on the pin and in to the connector, but overall you can fix this by not buying any parts :)
    I hope my video will help you to solve your problem with your Renault Megane, if you have noticed similar problem and you will be able to repair your turn lights / blinker lights

    Very helpful video. I have a Renault Scenic - same problem. Video allowed me to find the fault and fix it without a trip to the garage. THANK YOU!!

    I had exactly the same problem on my 2006 Megane. The problem is a poor return (i.e ground) path for the electric current flowing through the indicator. The current through the indicator is finding its way back to the battery via the brake circuit - that is why the indicator and the brake light are dim - instead of 12 volts being across each the 12 volts is across both bulbs in series.
    The best way to clean them is with those disposable nail files - or a lollipop stick with fine abrasive paper looped round the end. Also use contact cleaner on the bifurcated contacts and you need to clean them on the inside because that is where the electrical contact is made not the outside.
    Your pins were obviously badly corroded but just dirt is often enough to raise the resistance enough to stop the bulbs working. Even if the pins and contacts don't look dirty it is best to clean them to rule it out.

      Can confirm this works - uses a safety pin to tighten the female ports and a mini tooth-flossing brush (like a tiny toilet brush) to clean them out.
      Worked perfectly.

      @@decky1990 I have cleaned the contacts three times in the last three years and the yelllow plastic insert was starting to fall to bits as well - sometimes you have to know when to twist and when to stick !

    This always seems to happen on the right rear. Never had any trouble on the left. I clean with Isopropyl.

      hi there, what exactly does not work, is it just one side? If the emergency lights are on, do they work on all sides? What do you have tried so far?

    I have a 2001 megane scenic rx4 and recently the left indicators stopped working. You can listen the relay clicking at double speed but any lights on the left side come on, not even on the dash. The same happens with the hazards switch: left side doesn't work and right side works fine. I've checked the light connectors and they are allright. Do you have any guess?

      From my little exp., I would start by removing both rear lamps and checking if same stuff happens if other lamp is connected, connect left lamp to right connector and check if the problem is still there (if u dont have a multimeter to measure currents). If problem goes away, problem is in lamp scheme.. if not, then it will be harder, but as I remember then lamp fuses should be paird, so if it would be burnt out, then front should not work as well. But from my late exp., fighting with faulty daytime running light and with not working one side window, you have to check the wires, especially exposed ones, like close to connector. Look for corrosion, like blueish color on the wire, probably you have to reconnect the wire, if you are luckly it will be somewhere in the rear area, but it sound like this is the problem..

      @JUrtanschannel  Před 4 lety

      Well, if it turned off after 2 sec and you don' t have any issues, it is ok, if it keeps turning on and off, you should check what sort of error it is, just to make sure what causing it. :)

    How did you remove corrosion? With sand paper?

    • @JUrtanschannel
      @JUrtanschannel  Před 3 lety

      yes, I used sandpaper and metal piece with an edge to reach places where I could not get with a sandpaper, to scrap away the rust

    My megane 2 is like disco lights, it always happens in the winter when rainfall is high. But I just don't know where the problem originates.. If anyone can help I'd be grateful.

      Hi as you say"it always happens in the winter when rainfall is high" some water flows into the electronics box I would look there first and wipe off and also blow out all the moisture that is formed

      @@boukharitemessek2596 Thanks for your response, I did exactly that and unfortunately I've had to replace her now. I opened the electrics and began to check fuses etc.. Put it all back in place and she wouldn't even start 😪 sad times, she's been so faithful despite all the problems. Renault would've had a good strong sturdy and even more popular car if they had thought electrics through properly!
