Our 2021 ARGO AURORA 950 SX HUNTMASTER... What a disappointment!

  • We gave up our 2019 Skidoo 900 Expedition because we wanted something a lot more safer on the ice. So we decided to buy an Argo. We were contemplating whether we should buy new or preowned.
    When we contacted Roy at RMC Argo Sales, sadly he didn't have the model we wanted in stock. However, we remembered that Quinn's Marina where we bought our 2023 Corsair Boat by Allied Boats, had a preowned 2021 Argo Aurora 900 SX Huntmaster 8x8 for sale. So we decided to take a look at that specific Argo.
    It had a custom bimini top cover, aftermarket heater and fan and a 3500lb winch. It also had a battery outlet outside of the vehicle so that if we ever needed to boost the battery, we didn't have to go under the seat. So after my husband and I talked about it, we decided to pull the plug and buy the Argo. We hoped we made the right choice.
    When the Argo finally got delivered, we were really excited to test it out on the trails and on the water. The main reason we bought the argo was for safety while we travel on the ice to go ice fishing. We weren't entirely comfortable driving our new SxS on the ice as it is over 1800 lbs. That made us nervous.
    When our Argo arrived, we took it out for a spin on our street and right away we noticed how bumpy the ride was. We also noticed the license plate was missing and the holes on the base of the vehicle was not sealed up. Our excitment was turing into disappointment and instant regret. We paid a lot of money for a vehicle we thought was gonna have major issues in the future.
    We had contacted Quinn's Marina to address our concerns and we also contacted Roy from the Argo dealer who advised us to drive the vehicle for a long period. He said he knew the vehicle we bought and when argos sit for too long, the wheels can take shape of the floor causing one side of the wheels to feel flat. So we rode out on a trail and even got stuck but it still felt bumpy.
    When we did get stuck twice, it was extremely bumpy. We went on a night ride with our friends who also bought an argo and although we noticed at high speeds the argo was driving smoother, we also heard a whistling sound. However, no indicator lights to tell us that there was a problem appeared. We still smelled burnt oil but we were told that the oil also sat too long. We plan on getting the argo fully inspected by Roy at the Argo dealer to let us know if the machine we bought was in safe and in good working condition. We will keep you all posted!

    Congrats on the new machine and the refund on the old one. The biggest thing to remember when buying these machines is they require maintenance, learn how to repair them. Oiling the chains, grease etc. Great machines but spend some time learning how to replace shafts, axels and chains. It will save you time and money There is often a misconception that these machines are like quads or SxS's in terms of minimal maintenance, this is not the case. We have used them for years in Northern Canada for hunting and fishing expeditions and they will get you where you want to go, they just require a little more TLC between trips. It's not really a big deal when you look and the experiences you can have with one of these. Truth be told, they have never left us stranded and a close friend of mine has been running a 1984 6x6 since 1990. I run a 2009 Avenger and it's been a solid machine. We've run them across miles and miles of muskeg, on ice, across creeks and shallow rivers, up gigantic hills, on gravel, roads, fields, cut-lines and marshlands and never once was worried about not getting out. I hope this helps because they are truly a remarkable piece of modern engineering. Safe travels and good luck fishing !

      Thank you so much! Yes! We realize how much maintenance it will require, and we both would love to learn how to maintain it. Looks like you've done many things with your Argo and had lots of fun with it. We hope to mainly use it for ice fishing and some trail riding in places we can't take our sxs or atv. We really did wish this argo worked out as it was a pretty decent deal, but the bounciness had us concerned. I will be posting a new video of our new argo and can't wait to use it! I love hearing about other people's experiences with their argo and knowing that they last for years. Thanks for sharing your expertise and experiences. Continue to have fun with your argo, too!😊

      People misunderstand tracks. The idea is to spread the weight over a larger contact area, but the game is lost the moment you break the surface root mat & you end up just a few inches sunk in mud. Try to turn in mud & you will throw a track...

      Just curious. What did you pay for the new Aurora … if you don’t mind answering. Did you order it with tracks, windshield, etc ie fully loaded? I assume you are in Ontario or some northern US state? We’re down here in Newfoundland. The Argo Avenger we bought in 2009 was loaded … windshield, canopy, winch, wiper motor, even an heater … which was absolutely unnecessary since so much heat came back through the firewall … but we didn’t know that at the time. We paid approximately $24,000. We added tracks and a plough later. I put the tracks together myself and installed them so saved a little money. If you look on my CZcams site you will see a few videos of me ploughing … before we had the tracks installed. And also a few videos of my son and I having some fun on the ice … and in water.

      @zircon215 Yes, we ordered our brand new argo with fully loaded accessories. I do have a video on that as well that I posted not too long ago. Wow, I like your price... did u buy it brand new at the time? We paid $54k Canadian fully loaded with everything except for a heater as it's warm enough inside while we go ice fishing. The price is with taxes, accessories, and labour. What sealed the deal for us was the argo 4 year warranty. Buying pre-owned had no warranty, and we wanted full warranty, especially with our first experience of buying a used argo.

    Congrats on your new Argo. They are amazing vehicles but have some significant downsides. That hopping is not normal at all. I suspect you have a bent axle. That should have been caught at the dealer. Definitely take it to a reputable Argo dealer and have the whole machine checked out. If holes in the tub weren’t identified as a problem then I’m certain they didn’t check axles, bearings, chains, and brakes. Argos require significant maintenance as they can take you waaay off grid and you need a machine that can bring you home safely. Good luck!!

    • @lovethat...6874
      @lovethat...6874  Před rokem +5

      Hey Carl, thanks for your input. We did think it was an axle problem but when we called the marina we bought our boat from and a reputable argo dealer, they had said to drive it out for awhile because it was sitting for months. We also suspected that the dealer did not due their proper overall check of the vehicle because there was so much water in the tub. Luckily we were able to return the argo and got a full refund. We did buy a brand new argo with many accessories so stay tuned for that video😊

      I’m glad that you were able to get refunded! That says a lot about your relationship with your dealer. I hope I didn’t come off as negative on Argo’s, as I’m a huge fan. I’m on my 5th Argo and love them for all that they are despite their downsides. I’m not a CZcamsr, but have posted a few videos. I tell everyone, they are slow, loud, and uncomfortable but they will get you wherever you want to go! We use ours mainly on snow, but have also enjoyed time on the water. Simple fix or should be. When I saw it bouncing from previous expletive from bias ply tires: which is what the thing probably has, combined with low air pressure these things run and the cold, these tires will flat spot real bad. The further you drive it the less it will bounce. It will go away even faster in warm weather.

    • @lovethat...6874
      @lovethat...6874  Před rokem +1

      @ogles824 Thanks so much for your response. My husband and our friend who owns an argo jacked up this argo and rotated and felt each tire. They didn't notice any flat spots on the tire. We did contact an argo dealer who also suggested for us to drive the argo longer to help smoothen out the ride but the argo bounce just didn't seem normal. We've tested other argos and none of them bounced this way either. My husband and myself and our friends believe there are more issues causing this severe bounce. Luckily, the marine dealer we bought it from accepted our return of this machine.

    Bent axle?

  • @davidbrewer7937
    @davidbrewer7937 Před 10 měsíci

    Too much tire pressure causes the bounce... you want between 4 & 8 psi. The entire weight is spread across all 8 wheels & the ground pressure is ~2 pounds per square inch. You can literally run over your foot & it does not hurt. This means that you are less likely to break through ice than on an ATV. However, a snowmobile has large footprint under the track but the skis tend to dig in & the weight distribution means it is likely to sink... that is why the key to puddle jumping is keeping the skis up & out of tge water.

    • @lovethat...6874
      @lovethat...6874  Před 10 měsíci

      We measured the tire pressure, and everything was correct. We think it was the axle that was bent.
