You should be drinking Cider really when listening to Bristol DnB legends like Roni Size 😂
Briz!!!!
Stowford press
@@Pigwig83 1/2 an exhibition at the Corry Tap (those who know know) which is actually next door to Christchurch Studios where massive attack recorded back in the day
I arrived in Bristol in 2001 at the end of this era. Big up Full Cycle, Drive By, Timecode (if you know you know 😉)
@@morganmorgan-morgan2582 hell yeah. Timecode mixes on Moving shadow.
It’s worth noting that this was actually a band. They play this live on stage with real instruments and synths.
Yes 🔥
And a museum piece desktop 😂
@@jayyydeee86 yes, Roni size is one person. Reprazent is the name of the group.
Reprazent
@@GRANT250MX yes exactly 👍🏻
Shiiiiit... Was 16yrs old when I first heard this. 42 now and I still have this track on my playlist. Great reaction guys!!
😂 me too
Me three, remember going to the end in 2001 to see roni, good old dayz
Another 42 year old and remember spending most of Homelands 99 in the end arena listening to Roni Size and all the other Dnb heads
Me 5, saw them on the other stage at Glastonbury 97 (on the TV) and they absolutely blew my mind and changed my life.
There is no way this is your first time hearing this track! Next you're going to say you never heard Goldie Innercity Life!
As much as I love Inner CIty Life, for me the Rabbit in The Moon Vocal mix of it is an absolute masterpiece of a tune, if you haven't heard it you should give it a listen czcams.com/video/-nXrjWe3tR8/video.html
This song has been a constant in my playlist for nearly 30 years
I think you would have probably enjoyed the full vocal version better - Dynamite MC on the mic.
czcams.com/video/EnAtyAJZRIE/video.html&ab_channel=Reprazent-Topic
this was released in 1997 .
For real for real
Facts!
You haven't lived until you go to a dirty D&B night in Bristol.
You should try picking up a copy of "New Forms" the album on vinyl...it was their debut album and won the Mercury Prize in 1997
I worked with Roni size , and krust in the past at the raves of used to MC. Great guys big ups to the Bristol massive
MC Dynamite, Ronnie Size, Reprazent, Gloucester n Bristol fully represented!! This was a big tune back in the day! All 3 of them are legends in the DnB scene.
Roni Size use to live next door to my auntie and cousins in Montpellier, Bristol back in the 90s.
So many memories of this song and album, New Forms, from back in the day. Having it play in the background whilst me and the boys blazed, playing Tekken on a PS1. Good times.
Soundtrack to my teenage years drum n bass legend
Bass
For about six months in 97, it looked like drum n bass was going to take over the world. Even the BBC was using it for their links.
That kind of thing is what killed it let's be honest!
It took over my life... to this very day. I can't see it changing. Listen to Golden Brown by Dave Brubeck
It has taken over. You hear so many tunes in the radio that are drum and bass or use drum and bass beats. Hell, even sporting events and walkouts to fights use dnb. It's so much more widely accepted.
Sticking with Bristol vibe check out Tricky & his cover of Public Enemys Black Steel 🔥 Enjoy Chase & Status its great live
Roni Size won the Mercury Music prize in 97 I think with this album and really but DnB further into the mainstream
Yes it was this album. New Forms. Bloody amazing album.
Never clicked faster. This is just the sound of 1997 for me. Couldn't go anywhere without hearing it, and any time i hear this track now it takes me back to that exact time period!
1997-1999 golden age (U.K.)
Greetings from the glorious North West of England, top video fellas...I'm 44 and this track still gives me goosebumps 🔥
This was part of the evolution of drum n bass and what was later to be known as the Bristol sound which had that funky element to it pioneered by Roni size and Bryan gee for the next decade or two with their labels full cycle and v recordings which produced countless bangers. You can hear these jazz elements in brand new funk by Adam F which is another certified classic tune
Probably worth mentioning EZ Rollers records from the same time as brand new funk (and maybe a little earlier?) - particularly RS2000.
That whole album is so good
Dude on the left has never heard of Digable Planets!? Mad. Btw Roni Size also worked with Bahamadia of Digable Planets.
When I was like 19 I rented a room off the guy who played bass with Reprazent... creator of this amazing double bass riff!
Dnb/jungle was the most samples heavy genre other than hip hop at the time. The music was invented by the turntablists mixing sped up breaks with reggae baselines.
Thing with uk we never really advertise. If it's out there its out then it makes the music scene. Becomes a trend
Classic... I once had to proof to Dynamite MC and D Bridge ( Bad Company) that i´m worthy taking over the mic at a big festival in Austria. One of the best Moments ofr my life.. shaking hands with Dynamite and then hosting the main D&B stage for 3 hours ( DJs playing: D Bridge, Total Science and Dylan) 🙂🙃🙂🙃🙂
Classic track from back in the day.
Try "BACK TO REALITY" RMS
for a bit of public enemy and others sampled into up to date jungle.
The fact you found this and then reacted is crazy to me. This was big in the uk!
This brings back memories.. Can't believe how many years have gone by. 47 now and this is still amazing 🤙
tonked off my face to this many nights as a yoot. Big Up!
"Brown paper bag" is an old skool way of curing weed in the 90s in the UK at least, just so you know.. And it has nothing to do with 9/11 whatsoever 😊
Sounds strange without skiba, shabba, hyper , det etc spraying bars over it.
Liked your comment on dnd trying out sifferent sounds and genres. Its so true, sampling was huge in its early days, so many different drum patterns and techniques, poly rhythms and vocals. Compare that to a house song that is 99% of the time just a 4x4 beat all the way through
Roni was huge back in the day this tune was 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Now I remember why I stopped listening to drum and bass in the car 😂😡why does my foot always have to get so damn heavy. Oh well that’s the first time I’ve been done for speeding since I last listened to drum and wit the car 😂🤣😂
The Photek remix is amazing as well
Yes yes guys, this is another anthem. Bristol crew represent!
Ive been mentioning this in many comments.
This track and album was performed live and the album New Forms win the mercury music prize in 97 beating the spice girls and radio head to the prize.
Seminal, seminal track.
"Testing new sounds" back in 97...its been done guys. All these tracks would be played in sets together, godyouve gotta hear mix tapes, thats a whole other dimension cos this is dance music made for clubs, thats where it happened.
Saw a Roni Size DJ set a month ago at a festival...really awesome
I like the B side also 'The Western' cowboy vibes
Was my phone ring for about 7 years 😆😍
Yes boys Roni is pronounced Ronny. 😂
Thanks ✌️🍻
Roni Size was featuring at a festival in my home town the other week lol
Ooh I had this on cassette, dont live in the UK but I tore through this album over and over, quietly dancing on metro platforms etc lol
You need to dig deeper... LTJ Bukem, Aphrodite, Ganja Kru, BIG BUD,... listen to 'Westside Blues', by Intense, with the late MC CONRAD on vocals. You have a wonderful journey ahead of you 😊
Would not call this a hidden gem in the Uk or in the Drum & Bass world, pretty well known. If you don’t know about this, then there’s a ton of cool tunes to discover for years to come. Breakbeat Era- Ultra Obscene, Adam F - Circles, Krust -Coded Language, Grooverider - Charade… just too many
One thing I’d love for you guys to check out, seeing as you’re interested in the history of UK music, is UK hiphop.
We have quite an extensive history, going back to the mid 80’s. But for a good starting place:
Roots Manuva - Witness.
Released in 2001. You may have heard it already, it’s been used in a lot of media over the years and was even on NBA2k(I forget the year, 22 maybe).
Bruvva check out the boys catalogue they have reacted to a whole heap of UK hip hop like loads of it 💯
Jazz DNB is - or was - a whole sub genre in itself and I used to listen to it a lot mid 90s to early 00s.
The best band ive ever seen live was Roni Size Reprazent back in the year he won the Mercery Prize.
They where headlining on Sunday night at a festival in Bristol.
The whole crowd had been going all weekend and most were fading fast. They Reprazent came on stage and everybody went completely nuts. It was wild.
Another childhood classic. Crazy that dnb never hit USA. Glad you guys get to experience decade old DNB classics for first time. Get em coming. You have such a fun journey ahead. Then you have also Jungle that is massive.
Always wondered why Jungle/DNB never took off in the States. Techno too, for that matter. They can’t seem to see past hip hop, which was neutered and turned into clown music.
@@jakesolo2872 Interestingly enough there is a EDM genres from us from like "Detroit techno" and "Chicago house" and also "electro" that was popular among b-boys. I think this goes to show what happens when record labels are dominating a domestic market. mp3 first and then music/videostreaming really opens up the world.
it took off just fine in the US and we have had a healthy scene for 30 years all across the country. it was never commercially viable in the US (except for music beds in commercials and late night MTV) but that's fine. we lived it and loved it all the same.
@@jakesolo2872 the size of the US and a lack of exposure on radio. none of these media corporations were taking a chance to play reprazent/bukem/goldie during drive time on the radio. millions still built and maintain a healthy US dnb scene even without that support
Roni size is a d&b legend
I remember the first time I heard this, it’s a classic.
Finally the best drum n bass comes from my town bristol roni is a legend xxx
Uk bristol
So dope you checked this one and are interested in the evolution of Jungle and DnB.
LTJ Bukem 'Orchestral Jam' Listen to that 😊
Chester P the Authorship has it got enough for a reaction yet . Its his masterpiece
Guys you should watch Roni Size and represent live at Maide vale studios. It is 🔥
You should check out the godfather and innovator of Drum Bass. Goldie.
Terminator is still one of the all time classics from Goldie, never get tired of hearing it
@@wayneedge6905 now there’s a tune
Not quite a hidden gem in the UK, their album won the Mercury Music Prize in 97, so this was a pretty well known track.
Fellas, this track was everything back in 97. The album, New Forms is a masterpiece and won the prestigious Mercury Music Prize that year. It's a legendary track. You should check out more 90s dnb and jungle. Fair play
Roni Size is amazing. Has made songs with lots of US Rappers aswell. Cypress Hill, Method Man, Red Man defo worth a listen
COURT - Theres fucking tonnes of jazzy dnb!! You have to listen to
4 Hero - Two Pages
So so far ahead of its time.
Seminal album by pioneers who taught even Goldie.
1. Yes its pronounced Ronny
2. British genres like Garage, Jungle, Drum N Bass and Grime, always take all of the previous influential components like reggae and dancehall music, hip hop, forward into themselves and then they influence themselves, so grime led on from garage and so is very heavily linked to it, D Double E used to be a DnB DJ and then Dizzee and Wiley came up on garage sets and then you have the blend where DnB kind of drifted in and out of popularity between the 30+ years its been around and now you have P Money and what most would consider grime MC's, jumping back onto DnB
3. the diggable planets reference i get which i bet is because both tunes are built around the double bass.
4. Goldie was one of the godfathers of Drum N Bass and invented time stretching, something which went on to become a normal part of modern electronic music, but theres a few videos about it if you wanted to know more
5. DnB might be compared to computer technology in terms of how it advanced and quickly changed its overall sound at lots of different times, you could say there are particular sounds of particular eras like the 90s stuff, the 2010s Jump Up, but in all honesty, its a mixed bag, because there will always be the mavericks that were leading the way with tunes that might not have fit in with what was going on at that time. Its too complicated to try and track IMO. it would be some crazy 6 hour documentary and even then you wouldnt be able to cover everything.
Dont forget about one of the sickest DnB mixes of all time was from a video game.GTA3, MSX FM, Dj Timecode and Mc Codebreaker ;)
This was the first DnB track I ever heard… I was about 14!
Bristol Crew being represented.
Got to see roni play live 2 years ago. His set was incredible. Also managed to get a picture with him too! You should check out his other track “it’s jazzy” definitely one of my favourites
Really enjoying the D&B/Jungle retrospective
This was 🔥 live
You should check out the Roni Size and Method Man track called Ghetto. Celebrity
Yass, what a tune. You guys react to the best shit
Blast from the past, who else feeling nostalgic 🏴🏋️
Ron-E Size, your def pronouncing it right! Classic DnB track on my everyday Spotify random playlist. Fire!!!
Classic Tune ,you been missing out!

Prisoners of Technology - Trick of Technology. If you don't get out of your seats for that one, then you're already dead :D
Check out Roni Size ft Cypess Hill - Child of the wild west .... You will love this ❤️🎶❤️
* Cypress Hill
And it's one of the theme tunes for Blade
Hey I just checked it out, banger! I loved Roni Size and temple of boom is still an all time fave album, thanks for the heads up!
Should do Aphex Twin - Windowlicker. Will blow your mind, especially the official video
Guys talking about the evolution of jungle and dnb, there are many mix cds and quite a few documentaries out there that explain history but not one that really covers the whole 30 years. We need a 'Golden Age of DNB " docuseries.
I'll send you some info on historical mixes and videos etc.
Maybe check out Roni Size-Trust Me from 1997.Still one of my favourite D&B track's of all time!
I remember seeing Roni size at the Que back in 99. Planet V night. I still get goosebumps just thinking about that night.
It lives, the bass is the heartbeat that it gives
When we apply the brakes, there'll be no skids
Just more elements to consider as we glide
Dimensions and the measurements and the evidence you will find
Change it, rearrange it so it's regularly updated
Hits from every angle so expect the unexpected
Represent the fusion of the mind and stay connected
The starboard is presented, the slice of the market's been indented
Delivering the style we give you so that means a mention
In your direction is the bearing that we aimed ascension
Instead the way the floor the stunner made a re-invention
And then you get your money's worth before you've even sensed it
Make you bigger for bigger for the whole nation
Send it down to one and all with no discrimination
Like a safe with 50 locks, there's many combination
No matter which way that you turn you reach the same destination
The fullness of the spectrum, 360 keep it circling
Deep inside the flow is where it's working it
Underneath, submerging it, time to make it go deeper
Way past the point that blows holes in your speaker
Under and over to get over and under
First you get the lightning and then you get the thunder
The sound is the music and the music is the feature
Takes me back, guys! Have you listened to any 808 state or Adam F?
Have a look into Adam F especially his work that he did with some of the biggest names in hip hop back in the 00's. I don't think any UK Drum and Bass Producer did this before him.
I left comments on here months and months ago saying to react to old dnb tunes and it's great to see you start to do it but I hope you will look at many more I love drum and bass and Mampi Swift the one, Pascal serious sounds, Bad Company the nine,DJ Krust warhead and the warhead 2000 remix would be a good start, that is just a few proper rave tunes it would be great if you could check out some old live sets because that's what the whole point of jungle drum and bass is about there's really no point in just picking out a couple of old dnb tunes like zinc ready or not remix or roni size brown paper bag and listening to and analysing them all the way through because they weren't made for that , they were made to mix live on a big loud sound system and to be played for the people who were there ,at that time dnb was purely underground and so special I would love to see you really delve into this alot more ,I love watching your videos ❤
Check out the Photek remix of this!! Killer
Roni size it’s jazzy absolute banger….John B salsa….TNT 2 degrees ….Congo natty exodus all out in the mid 90’s …all jungle classics
Up All Night by John B is another banger. TNT was one half DJ Target from PAUG/Roll Deep
97 mercury prize for innovation to music. Check out the album it called NEW FORMS. Absolutely a pioneering classic
Blimey this is a classic from back in the day👍
Yoo you guys have been coming out with the bangers

Next one for you is break beat era - ultra obscene
Hey there, gents. I'll just drop this here. Roots Manuva. Great track, sublime video. Over to you...

Hidden? This track is legendary !
A classic.

Yes guys this is literally the guy I mentioned to you the other day check him out playing this live WOW. Roni size, dj krust, and DJ zinc are all from Bristol Uk. Classic analogue jungle drum n bass . 90 s

Loving the Coast Contra tops 👌
another blast from the past! keep up the dnb reactions
Damn this brings me back.... DJ Aphrodite would spin this at raves I went to back in the early 2000s... Love Roni Size tracks
Another one of my recommendation a timeless piece of music tbh. ❤
