Wow! This worked soooo well! Thank you! I went rock climbing the other day and failed to take my 18mm wide gold band off. I scratched it pretty bad and could even feel a fairly irritating rough spot on the ring. I thought I was going to have to live with it until I could get it to the jeweler, but, NO, it is looking like the day I bought it. I am just so flabbergasted that it was this simple. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and expertise!
😁🥰Thank you Garry I tried the jeweler and they said they could not get rid of the scratches on my anniverary band. That the scratches was there to stay. I thought it was no hope. It worked!!! I use a metal fairly new screwdriver to get rid of the scratches on my ring it really works. Thank you so much! I looked at several videos and also google looking for a miracle. Now I don't have to drive my husband crazy, and I did not need his help I can do this myself. I can't wait to share this with my hubby and family. Awesome!! Also I used a micro cloth to buff the ring what a shine.
Excellent advice! I used the back of a stainless steel spoon on my white gold (not rhodium plated) wedding band and I was able to achieve a mirror finish with a bit of elbow grease. Complete surprised at how well this works.
Thank you, this worked surprisingly well, I used to polish light scratches with my bare hands, on my actual skin... it works, but it's quite painful. I don't like to bring my ring to a jeweler because I don't like to lose metal... thanks again.
Much too kind, sir, for your helpful and very effective technique. You saved me a trip and a charge to the local jewelry store to get my wedding band scratches removed. Worked like a charm! 👌
Sceptical at first.. But after reading the overwhelming positive comments on this technique actually workin, I gave it a try. I dropped my grandma's precious and sentimental ring and it fell on uneven concrete. I immediately dropped my shopping bags to inspect the ring.. A few visible dents plus scratches... I was upset. Immediately regret holding the bags with one hand whilst trying to put the ring on my other hand which was already loaded holding a small gym equipment bag and on top of that....walking. Always put things down and take care of your sentimental valuables ladies and gentlemen. On the train home.. I was looking up ring repairs. Hatton gardens (London jewellery central) stores were charging me with the excess of £150 for repair and they also confirmed I would indeed lose ring metal.. They said yes.. Even if its a little... I don't want that. If the ring is 3.93 grams.. I want 3.93 grams or more.. They said they wouldn't add more silver, gold, platinum, etc to make up the losses during repair. I was thinking that's crazy. You want me to pay £150 to lose ring metal. Crazy.. Wooooooow wooow wwwwwoooowww Wow. It really really works.. I use the screwdriver too because its the recommended tool to use from this video. I want to thank you very much for this video. I spent maybe 10 mins to 15mins using this technique and the ring is good as new.
Wow!!!!!! I’m so so glad I found your video Gary!!! Now with Covid 19, we don’t go out much so this will work beautifully between jeweler’s visits! Thank you for this lesson and reminder of burnishing!
My gold wedding band with diamonds got scuffed when they cleaned and dipped it on some kind of wash cleaner at Zales. I’m assuming this will work to remove scuffs. My ring has diamonds around the whole band...
This is GREAT! I just learned this technique for platinum, and I was just thinking in my head, logically it should be the same for gold, though undoubtedly different materials (like tungsten carbide required for Pt burnishing). My question is does do you keep the same amount of pressure the whole time from start to finish, or do you apply less as the surface begins to shine?? THANK YOU so much for sharing this! Just what I needed
Hello there! Came across this video whilst looking for ways to take the scratches out of my engagement ring. I'm wondering if it would work on 15k gold? Thanks so much for this video!
Thanks for this, I've only had my ring about 2 weeks and already got some scuff marks on it which I could not ignore I was a little reluctant to try it but I gave it a go, and am very happy to say it does work, I could probably do a little more as I can still see a slight area where the scuff was but it is a lot better.
I'm going to try it on my 6mm 10k band, also I have a question, I was wondering if I take another one of my 10k ring to the jeweler to be polished, will it make a difference on the scale ⚖️
Hey sir, I see you replying to people so I have a question, so I’ve never used this method and today I was cleaning all my silver and gold jewelry but I noticed there is a ton of scratches on my silver pieces, does this method work for 925 sterling silver?
I'm buffing my silver wedding ring with a tea spoon while listening to you, and it works. I can't thank you enough for the advice. 🤝

Gold has to be plated with rhodium in order to be white. Otherwise it's naturally yellowish.
Excellent tip. I work in construction and got the ring scuffed and scratched up pretty good. This method shined it right up. Thanks!
Happy to hear we could help. Very simple once you know it :-)

Nice one Gary. Im a carpenter and platinum ring was scratched to high heaven. This works so well. 👍🏻
I used the back of a stainless steel spoon on my 10k gold wedding band, looks like it did 5 years ago when it was brand new. Thanks!
This is so simple but so effective , thank you

Happy that an heirloom has been rescued!
Tested it on my old gold wedding band. Worked a treat thankyou 😊
My pleasure 😊
This really works. I used the screwdriver on my wedding band, and it really worked.
I was shocked. Great idea
you are a lifesaver! thank you! worked brilliantly
This worked great for me, thanks for teaching about burnishing.
Worked pretty well honestly. I used a screwdriver as well
I used my bare hands.
Hooray!
@@dayangmarikit6860 bet you didnt!
@@DiamondsthatOutshine - I mean it works for light scratches.
Excellent video, thank you
Garry is the man! It worked like magic. thanks
Bro !!! Amazing I just scratched my new wedding ring and I was kinda bummed but this fixed it no problem

Keep it as hard as you can and back and forward 🙂
@@GarryHolloway Can this technique be used on gold plated jewelry without damaging it?
Omg this works so good ! Thank you❤
Thanks a lot.
This guy looks like Alex from jeopardy
Ha!!! That's a good point! Never occurred to us :-)
Wow - another really good looking old guy!
I tried this and I am shocked because it works!!!! Wow!
You mean you didn't trust me. I am a jeweller - surely you can trust me hahahahaha!
Doesn’t this remove metal from the ring?
Thank you
Thank you so much Sir, it really worked 🥰🥰✨✨
You're welcome!
Does it work on yellow gold ?
Thank you so much for sharing. This saved me! Does this also work on platinum?
It surely does!
@@DiamondsthatOutshine oh that’s wonderful, thank you!

Hello there!
Came across this video whilst looking for ways to take the scratches out of my engagement ring. I'm wondering if it would work on 15k gold? Thanks so much for this video!
Sure. It will work on 15k gold as well.
does this work on 10k gold ring
Does this method work with Tiffany's sterling silver???
I'm back once again lol. I got my wedding band and it's titanium steel. Would this method possibly work on my ring or not so much? Thank you
This is how I polished my silver ring but I wonder will it get thinnier if I do it repeatedly?
Nope.. It won't.
Oh cool you’re an Aussie like me!
Looking at your photo - I am afraid your much better looking. Are you sure your not Margot Robbie?
Does this work with tantalum
Does this work on gold? I recently scratched the back of a pure gold watch and I’m not sure if I should try it.
Not on flat surfaces and I would prefer yo go to a watchmaker and have them do it for you.
I'm going to try it on my 6mm 10k band, also I have a question, I was wondering if I take another one of my 10k ring to the jeweler to be polished, will it make a difference on the scale ⚖️
Depends on the amount of emery and the accuracy of the scale David. I would expect about 0.1 to 0.3gm loss for a fair sized ring.
QUESTION: does that method work on 925 sterling silver?
Sure does - read what other have said.
Does this method actually work? And will it be safe to work on white gold?
Unless you slip and hit a stone or a setting it is entirely safe. But some white golds are really tough. Let me know how you go :-)
Would a finishing wheel on a bench grinder work?
I would be wary. If the ring flips out of your fingers you may never find it. On the bench we use a dental drill with a little bumpy metal wheel.
Awesome video! This works so well!

Does this work on 22k gold
Better than any other because the gold is so soft - you need not be so strong!
Would this method work on white gold or Platinum wedding band? (both are 8mm)
Absolutely!
@@DiamondsthatOutshine Thank you for the reply.
Hi! Does this work on 925 sterling silver?
Sure it does.
Does this work for stainless steel?
Only if you use something harder - like a huge diamond hahahaha!
But sexist saying the man of the house can do it! 😮
Listen to this clown absolutely ruined my 18k ring DONT DO IT
Please don't do this your wife will divorce you....lol...jk...idk shit about jewelry
Does this work with gold ??
Yes it sure does!
