    There are two kinds of people. Those who produce, and those who criticize them for it. I saw the "issues" in the video (leaky water - been there!,) but I had my Girard GSWH-2 freeze and bust on a trip. Their website said "not a job for do it your selfers. Which means paying retail and labor at an RV repair. After watching the video It was clear that this was so simple even those of you who are their critics probably could do it. That is if you ever do any thing other than criticize the efforts of others!

    love the video. just a couple of quick tips tho... you dont need to use that much teflon tape on the fittings and you put it on backwards. It should go the opposite way do when you tighten the fitting, it graps the tape and gets tighter. Very easy install tho.

    you DO know that PTFE thread tape is only a lubricant to prevent galling, right? With Teflon tape, less is always more.....but, then again, I'm a plumber.

    • @codystevens1233
      @codystevens1233 Před 4 lety +3

      I try to tell people this constantly. it is only meant as a lubricant to keep fittings from galling and seizing 2-1/2 - 3 wraps is all you need. im more concerned about the romex he just taped the end of, they may not touch each other but the entire frame and any metal attached in an rv is grounded and can cause a spark or fire. and you'd be amazed how easily solid copper can puncture e-tape. Always always always cap wire ends that are not in use unless you completely disconnect the wire from the panel (pos, neutral and ground). it takes 2 min to cap them or 10 to disconnect the wire but it wont matter how much you think it wont be an issue its not worth dying in a fire.

    • @jaycable3858
      @jaycable3858 Před 4 lety +1

      @@nightdan7096 he wasn't talking about the 12vdc wire, he was talking about the 110v romex supply line left that wasn't capped properly. Also, electrical tape doesn't hold anything forever.

    I had one of these in a Lance 1575 camper. I paid over a $1,000 to have it replaced with a "real" water heater. The Girard was horribly loud, unreliable, inconsistent, and virtually unusable when boondocking because it would not return to the previous settings when shut off briefly at the shower head. It also varied by water temperature in the hose, water pressure, battery voltage, etc. My wife and I called it "That hideous imitation of a water heater".

I took the whole system back out and pulled the line and screens anything I could to find out why the hot water won't keep heating and I have such a huge loss of water coming out and really just still 2022 do not know why its terrible. Thanks for posting this video. Makes it seem pretty easy. I'm not liking my suburban water heater. Still researching tankless. I'd like to find a unit that can run on gas or AC electric. Not sure if they exist. Like the idea that while in a park I have more than one option. The park I'm in only has 30 amp service. To run my AC I've got to switch stuff to gas to conserve my amperage. I forget to check my tank levels and if I run out it's nice to be able to shower and not be an emergency trip to fill my tanks.

    Is there a reason to put the variable flame switch outside the cabinet? Could it be placed inside?

      I don't see why you couldn't. Inside might keep little fingers from turning it

    Your wasting your time installing that junk Gerard heater I have a new Gulf Stream with one of these junk heaters or I should say warmers. If the incoming aster is cold it will not hear the water above 77 degs. Plus’s it takes about 2 qts of water before I get warm water to my shower or sink !
