- This is the complete uncut episode of "The Cisco Kid" that aired on the syndicated version of SCTV in 1981. If you are familiar with this episode you will notice that this version contains scenes that weren't seen on TV. I've been sitting on this for years and I think it's way past time for everyone who has enjoyed this in the past to finally get to see the missing parts. Don't ask me how I obtained this copy just enjoy.
This is one of the greatest tv episodes of all time
Thanks for posting this-- I remember seeing it in 1981 and laughing uncontrollably. Peter Torokvei and Steven Kampmann went on to write for WKRP after Hugh Wilson saw this episode. We all know where Martin Short went after this. :)
STILL better than anything on TV today!!!
I was high on pain meds when I saw this.... Thank God!
I'd thought I'd seen all of SCTV's shows, but this one's a-new to me. Many thanks for posting.
Thank you! This was a classic in my family and the VHS we had has long been misplaced. My brothers & sisters will be thrilled to see it again. Love it!
Thanks for posting this!! I love all things SCTV related and I've never seen this before!
The cast for this is:
Cisco - Peter Torokvei
Pancho - Martin Short
Bart - Torokvei
Patty - Steve Kampmann
Duane Muncey - Kampmann
Pop - Don Dickinson
Bank President 1 - Dickinson
Town folk - Kampmann, Dickinson, Short, Torokvel
Announcer - John Stocker
This actually is not the SCTV version. This is the full original unaired pilot for a series called ""Laugh Track"".
The SCTV aired version was cut down to two "segments" of the half-hour show.
SCTV used this as a cheap way to fill time in the third season. James Rhodes (SCTV producer) had also produced the pilot. But there were legal complications because they aired it without obtaining any rights to the Cisco Kid material. It was never aired in syndication.
I actually remember seeing this on WNBC-TV in New York "back then," apparently this edition snuck out initially before it was yanked. So it may have been syndicated for about 15 minutes.
SO funny! I had to keep pausing it because I was laughing so hard. Thanks for posting this.
My wife and I use to choose who our close friends were by whether or not they thought this was funny.
Thank you so much for posting from another huge SCTV fan that somehow missed this the first time around - Cisco Kid was the only thing on at Sat 4am -- being up all night we would always add our own "gay" dialog - So Funny!
Respect to Leo Carrillo. He was 70 when the series started.
According to the SCTV Guide, this was a series that the Second City was trying to get off the ground. Was wondering why John Stocker was announcing cause he only announced the 2nd season of SCTV (where this sketch was featured in Season 3), made sense when I seen the copyright [1978]. Duncan Renaldo's(Cisco) estate forbid Rhodes from re-airing this.
I vaguely remember seeing this episode as part of "SCTV" when the third season aired on WNBC-TV (Channel 4) in New York in 1980-81 after "SNL"; evidently this was before Renaldo's estate got to syndicator Rhodes.
"It's true, I never lie. Well, maybe once...you're nice."
Good evening friends! ☼ ((✾◕‿◕✾)) _Удачи_! ☼ ★★★★★ Very nice post my friend ☼
Thanks for posting -- laughed so hard (;0>
Thanks! Been waiting to see this!
Alan Ladd's finest work.
I saw this on the original broadcast and I thought it was funny. Still funny.
Cannot believe you have this!!! Thanks!!!
The SCTV Grail!
"Canadianese Liberation Army" I wonder how many people really get that?
The same ones who get it when "Patty" says, "I was brainwashed - kidnapped - I'm an heiress!" XD
Man - Thanks for posting this. Saw it on TV when it first aired and loved it. Glad I decided to do a random search for it on CZcams!
On question for anyone… Why did every one keep calling him Alan Ladd? According to IMDB Alan Ladd was never on the Cisco Kid…??? Is there a joke I have not gotten for 30 years.
I think it's because Duane kind of looks like Alan Ladd. Especially when he walks into the second bank and says "It isn't Duane any more Patty, it's Shane."
One of my favorite parts (and there are many of them) is when Duane says to Cisco "I'm Alan Ladd" and Cisco says "Sure you are, and aren't we all?"
Dwayne/ Alan Ladd sounds like GUMBY .
How about the voice sounding like “Mr Bill” skit SNL made😂
Thank you, John!
I haven't seen this since late night 80s TV. So funny.
I recorded this back in the 80s played it for all my friends. Died laughing
you polka dotted bafoon!
i'm going to save this as a souvenir
Kind of a what's up tiger lily thing. Wonder why this wasn't tried more often? Hilarious idea.
525Lines This was originally a pilot for a series that SCTV tried out, but didn't do in the end.
Nasro Subari Very close to what MST3K did a decade later.
Firesign Theater's "J-Men Forever" is a good entry in this genre
OMG - thanks for mentioning that! Me and a few friends were getting high, really high, late one night at my cousins house and Matt came on the TV. We had no idea what it was - said wouldn’t it be funny if Jay stood for joint? Then we watched the absurdity unfold and realized that’s exactly what it was!
Ah, you have unearthed my long lost first childhood taste of "riffing", a beloved form of comedy practiced by many, my faves being MST3k, Rifftrax, Svengoolie, etc. etc. etc. I have become a bit of an "involuntary" amateur riffer myself: I am told that I mumble my own dialogue and jokes when watching tv, I'm often not aware of it...thank you...
This is so funny!!!
I thought I dreamt this.
This is the Cisco Kid Abridged, LMAO~!
Oh. He's more than one person...
way before MST3K!
I recognize Steve Kampman's voice.
like mystery science theatre 2001.
I remember this! it's hilarious even when your straight. It's the short term mem-loss that's....
I am not convinced this is SCTV (Candy, Flaherty, Levy, O'Hara etc.) . I can't recognize one voice. Could this have been Second City Chicago? They used to air occasional specials on public tv in Chicago.
This is how it went down. Some of the guys from SCTV (Martin Short) tried to create a TV show called Laugh Track. They made a pilot episode (The Cisco Kid). The show was not picked up and they eventually played it during an episode of SCTV. By the way, it was only aired once due to some copyright problems.
Sounds like it might have been a precursor or inspiration for "The Three Amigos."
Robert Hill It's definitely SCTV...
Who are the cast members? Martin Short is obvious & I think I hear Levy & Flaherty. Other than them, I don't hear any other SCTV cast members. Certainly, none of the women are involved. (According to IMDb, Martin Short may be the only regular SCTV cast member in this. The story that this was a pilot for a series that didn't get picked up, then was made part of an SCTV episode makes sense.)
there was a group that did this to Movies called the L.A. Connection, and it was on directly after SCTV
Martin Short is the woman, right?
Martin Short is Pancho.
And how!!!
Flaming Pisoles
SCTV MST3000
Only recognize Martin Short's voice. Never seen this before and I watched SCTV since it's Toronto TV episodes from the late 1970's. If it was supposed to be some side project I can see how it wouldn't have caught on. Like most cheap laughs overdubbing like MST3K this is for cult audiences.
Rick Moranis is the woman.
Steven Kampmann. Everyone is listed in the end credits.
