Having done some cursory research of lycanthropy a while ago: When you mentioned "don't know about silver" at 7:25, what I've found is that since Lycanthropy (and several other "curses", such as miasma) was once believed to be a disease, the natural anti-bacterial properties of silver made silver charms and cutlery very popular in those eras. While that actual property of silver wasn't known as such, it was well documented that silver would tarnish in the presence of specific poisons, which helped common folk believe it warded off evil.
Recently, I read a book where this was explained as lycanthropy was actually a legit bacterial infection, and silver would destroy any infection it touched. However, as the hybrid form was so intertwined with the actual human, this ended up fatal more often than helpful.

I just want to add that the concept of a "silver bullet" being the one thing that can kill a werewolf has been a big thing in pop culture for almost a century now. Lots of werewolf films and other media (including a recently released video game I won't name in case of spoilers but if you know, you know) involve this trope.
In the context of D&D alone it might seem random that lycanthropes are weak to silver, but when they wrote werewolves into the world(s) they probably just didn't change much from what people already expected of them (and likely assumed no one would question it).

@@uggron666 If I recall correctly, the silver bullet idea came from the myth of the Beast of Gévaudan, which was a large wolf like creature that preyed upon a French village, killing women and children. There were two main expeditions to hunt down the beast, the first headed by nobility and the second by the peasants of the town. It was during this second attempt that what was presumed to be the beast killed by the hunter Jean Chastel with a silver bullet.

@@thewanderer1317 "Some authors asserted that the idea of the werewolf's supposed vulnerability to silver dates back to the Beast of Gévaudan, a man-eating animal killed by the hunter Jean Chastel in the year 1767. However, the allegations of Chastel purportedly using a gun loaded with silver bullets are derived from a distorted detail[4] based primarily on Henri Pourrat's Histoire fidèle de la bête en Gévaudan (1946). In this novel, the French writer imagines that the beast was shot thanks to fictitious medals of the Virgin Mary, worn by Jean Chastel in his hat and then melted down to make bullets." 24:02 this reminds me of what I read about the church of Malar, which I thought was very interesting. They're chaotic or neutral evil lycanthropes that hunt people, but if their quarry bests them and gets away they'll respect that and let them go. Part of their dogma is to "not hunt the young or pregnant, that prey may be plentiful". In the lean winter months, they even hold a festival where they hunt to provide food for nearby communities. It's paradoxical, but you can see the logic.
Also, weredolphins sound ridiculous at face value but given how nasty actual dolphins are, they could actually be more terrifying than werewolves.

Your videos have always been the primary source for my campaign ideas and character involvement. And speaking of inspiration...
To all fellow viewers with the ability to do so, I HIGHLY recommend getting some of MrRhexx's books. They're relatively affordable, most of the balancing math for monsters and classes seems to be checking out so far, and they're LOADED with lore. Only, it's not just lore, it's also mechanics, magic items, and features that have already inspired upcoming adventures in my campaign (especially the, "Ring of Ascendancy" from the Dragon hoards book and all the plots that can weave around it). Although, if you're UNCOMFORTABLE with the SUCCUBUS monster class, I'll have you know that even if you got the book and ignored that option completely, the Deva and Ghost alone are SO SO worth it! I'd still recommend at least reading about the succubus, because MrRhexx makes an effort to convey that while you can play an evil monster, you can also play a being who was cursed and is seeking redemption (without using her body/powers for sin).
Anyways, good books, just saved up spare cash and combined with b-day money to finally get all three of these. Totally worth it.

Didn't a Dwarven WereBadger take over Lord Soth's Ravenloft Realm after he dipped out?
Think about that for a second. Most broken Dark Lord in fantasy leaves and a Dwarven WereBadger takes his place.
There wasn't even anything really special about the guy, he was just a jerk.

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who has thought of this but, what about dragonthropes? Or drakenthrope? Imagine a dragon being affected by lycanthropy and being bitten by that dragon, would that person then turn into a part wolf/dragon aberration? This is one wild homebrew idea that I would love to see explored.

Also I mentioned on a previous vid, but if you're looking for more playable monster classes to mull over I'm definitely still interested in Salamanders. Your video on them was really fantastic and it sounds like for all their power they got the short end of the stick in a lot of ways. Definitely intrigued. Also playable Ithilids would be wild as hell.

I'm working on my own TTRPG that's DnD parallel (Like Pathfinder) with some folks, and in it, we've made Were-beasts a product of the Fey, which in this world are on a class close to gods, at least the more powerful ones are. Druids are essentially clerics of Fey, and their beast forms is a controlled form of lycanthropy.

One thing on your lycanthrope class.aybe make the int/cha scores to a minimum of 2 or 3. When a character goes to a int of 1, it forgets how to walk, make noise, and generally exist, when 2-3 you can still move, and communicate to a limited degree. A cha score of 1 would essentially turn you into a wall. You don't react to things, make noises, or generally do anything. Just a pointer, because a lot of people will take that rules as written and make thier int 11 player paralyzed until they turn back.

Pathfinder 2e has a decent twist on lycanthropy: Beastkins. The sons and daughters of werecreatures become a more "refined" kind of lycanthrope, one that's more controlled and is actually fully immune to the influence of the moon. Lycanthropes see them as blessed creatures, as superior beings, while civilized people often see them as a dangerous mutation since they could be ANYONE and not even the moon would make them show their colours. You can pick Beastkin as a heritage on character creation only, and they're fun as hell! However they're meant to be very rare to find.
Also, Pathfinder 2e has tyranossaurus lycanthropes and they can get Dragon Spit as a feat, so they can also breathe fire. Can also later get a feat to turn into a properly sized tyranossaurus, too. Fucking scary shit to get bitten by one.

Two of my curse of Strahd players just got infected with lycanthropy. One embraced, the other resisted but failed.
I'm setting the full moon 7 days from the current night. I'll send the cleric of the group (who wasn't affected) the information on how to cure the curse.
I'm not going to follow the rules to the letter on how I'm running it (mostly because I think the player losing control of his character permanently is a dissatisfying conclusion when I could make an entire adventure out of curing the curse), but your videos are definitely informing how I want to run it

I love the idea at the start of lycanthropes being super spreaders of disease. It's a cool way to explain how it gets around so much in fantasy settings while adding a unique twists to your version of them.
In regards to the later parts of the video, I am a bit confused on one thing though. At 17:20 you say non-lycanthrope genes mixed with lycanthrope dilutes the abilities and such with each generation of offspring but I feel like you gave the opposite impression when talking about the origins of it at 15:00 and when discussing true lycanthropes in general.
