He was the main reason I was able to step away from the darkness. The Wing Chun I was doing in Sydney was good to keep me distracted, but it was still violence and anger related. Meeting him and training with him in Hong Kong was the opposite. It was like learning how to be peaceful but very powerful physically. And just being around him for so many hours, his energy and persona must have rubbed off on me a bit. A blessing for sure

I'm sorry to hear that story about your childhood. But I can confirm what you said. Me, with depression, had my first WingChun class in February 2015 and gained so much positive energy from these first 90 minutes of WingChun experience that I was distracted for a week. No signs of depression whatsoever. I mean it came back of course because the issues weren't solved, but still to this day I'm very well distracted whenever I have training. It's so fun and I just love it because it's not blindly punching something, but I can use my brain, you know because I have to concentrate and understand the principles, feel my body, checking positions, applying spring energy and all that stuff that makes WingChun so attractive.
Thanks for sharing all your experiences with us, the good and the bad. Thank you.

Thanks for sharing that Marco. And yes, I actually know of so many people who have and are using Wing Chun as a form of therapy and self development, rather than just a self-defense tool.
I hear many say the same thing about Bjj, eventhough it's not an internal martial art they need ro be very present to feel what's happening in every moment, plus being so demanding physically they get the fitness benefits of the brain releasing so much endorphins.
I hope you are working successfully through your depression man! I know that it can feel like a daily/hourly battle as times but it's one worth fighting. You will gain plenty if wisdom once you fully overcome it (if you haven't already) and with that will be able to help guide others 🙏🙏

Look into NARM by Lawrence Heller, you will love the level up of understanding you might get. Honest sharing by gopal is a very powerful practice I would like to recommend, saved my life. And it is intrinsically connected to human physiology/ psychology
