    Guanqin definitely offer some great affordable watches. I have a gold automatic from them that I paid $20 for like 4 years ago and it still works and looks flawlessly.

    Nowadays guy, it's not a matter of swiss or chinese watches, it's a matter of taste & style. It's about your pocket & how much you can invest on a fair watch to get time. Chinese do make good quality watches. It's all in our mind as when we hear the word chinese, it means for most of us that they aren't human! They are indeed intelligent and very good at making things. That the beauty of life.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  Před 6 lety +4

      Thanks for the very good thoughts! I think on balance it is fair to say that almost all Chinese Watch companies (Chinese owned and originated) will be below the quality of even the entry level Swiss names (which admitted have a lot of Chinese parts, but they determine the QC level of this)... that's what's in many people's minds I reckon when they hear the notion of a Chinese watch. Not that they don't make some fair quality pieces... and pieces with awesome bang for buck of course.

      Ramlugon Larveen Sharma Hey, if it lasts you one year, it wasn’t a total ripoff. I’m more interested in watches that’ll last me 10 years, and $68 won’t do that, I’d wager

      No. We don't need to buy the watches that have Chinese automatic movement. Cuz it's almost like trash. Using Japan movement is much better.

      Dear Bob, I wasn't myself interested in Chinese watches before as I'm a great fan of Swiss & Japanese movement. 3 yrs back, I bought myself a Guanqin Automatic Watch. I've since been trying to find some flaws against it, but honestly, it's been 3 full years that I'm still wearing it & to my own great surprise, it's working fine till now.

    The TY-2504 is a 33 jewel movement and has a rotor bearing cap, not a simple blued screw for attachment. This Guanquin has an inferior copy of the 2504. I've owned my Louis Bolle Solstice 18K with its TY-2504 since 2006. The movement has never been serviced and still runs like new, is well regulated and the watch looks stunning to this day. The two retrogrades are awesome. It has a sapphire coated crystal and a black patterened dial. I think it was $140. in 2006

    Parnis makes a similar watch with a Seagull movement. Different dial but same open-heart with ornament and power reserve. Had it for five years. Beautiful. Probably my most accurate automatic too. Not sure about the Guanqin but the bands typically don't last. No biggie. Great value mechanicals. While I do like Seiko and Orient for lower cost automatics, the Chinese in the $50-low-100's (US) range beat them in terms of value. Also, don't wind all the way. Just wind it enough to start it. No more than a few hours. The hand-winding on my Parnis seemed to wear after five years. No longer hand-winds, probably because I wound it all the way. Watch is otherwise fine. Looks great with a brown leather NATO replacement strap.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  Před 5 lety +3

      Thanks for sharing - yeah I have seen original Seagull with this very same set of complications, so it will be that same movement in that Parnis. Hard to tell accuracy though without a TimeGrapher as there is no actual second indicator. Thanks also for the tip about the hand winding, I appreciate that! :)

    I have this watch for about 9 weeks now been testing it compared to my vintage OMEGA Seamaster chronograph and have to say accuracy is comparable. Also testing it against an OLEVS quarts that loses 2-3 seconds in just half the time....pretty good. Mechanical low cost China automatic compared to a low cost (30$ USD) quarts it is better. I paid around 88$ USD From Amazon. I dint Ike and will never like alligator bands so I changed that out to a ore rustic leather band and I think adds to it. To sum up the dial is very nice even under a loop. I know its a knockoff of a very high end watch, cant think of think of right now . For serious! its has semi blown my mind with its detail. I love looking at it, have many compliments...very cool even if it does die in a year or 2 its only 88$ and you get an awesome watch for that. It is everything said in the video

    I have the Sea-gull flying wheel retrograde day date which is accurate to within a second a few seconds a day. Hacking and handwinding, domed sapphire.
    50m water resistant. 42mm dial 13mm thick. 22mm lugs. Signed crown. It is the perfection that this Guanqin aspires too. My favourite dress watch. From £175. I bought mine from Sea-gull.com a few years ago. It says Sea-gull on the rotor.
    The legibility of this Guanqin however is pretty good, and the price is excellent. Put it on a timegrapher to see the accuracy if you have one.

I mean maybe 2 seconds fast a week! I think that flywheel is the reason. I have more expensive watches including 28800 seagulls and nothing can beat it's accuracy. Maybe lucky? Unless you were shooting under incandescent light. Outside light would be very blue but I'm guessing at in there. Amazing the cool axons that some of them don't even mention. Not crazy about the big round crown but not a deal breaker. I also like the different day, date styles. And, not a fan of leather or crock straps but I would like to try this new butterfly clasp. Yeah good points those, there are certainly many culprits of such "lies"... too many at the moment, that it makes it hard to trust Chinese work as a whole. The culprits give the honest ones a bad name...

  • @michaelwalter7879
    @michaelwalter7879 Před 5 lety +1

    First: THIS is how a watch review should be made, thank you! Accurate, comprehensive, with knowledge of movements, a description of all features in detail. Sound and video quality are top, chapeau!
    As to 'quartz': most likely to be read in unison with 'sapphire'; I think they tried to say 'Quartz Glass' to describe the front and back window materials. Now is a 'sapphire' a 'quartz'?!
    In Germany one can find 'Mineral Glas', 'Saphir Glas' and 'Quarz Glas' as descriptors, all the same? Probably not.
    I own about 60 watches, several mechanical China models included. The GuanQin stuff appears to be a notch higher than the horribly made Jaragar, Sewor and Forsining automatics. Their big dates run '30-31-32...39-00-01', their rotor cannot maintain a sufficient power reserve, their hands are often badly aligned and need adjustment.
    This retrograde is on my current wish list, offered around $50 when shopping around. My biggest concern is about the date indicator being too 'narrow', not precise enough for reading the actual date. As much as I like retrograde motion, the angle is simply too small. Other issues I see: rather large case diameter why? Their big date full calendars are just 40mm!) and the cheap looking 'faux' leather strap, needs to be replaced by a metal one to really match the nice case.
    GuanQin also offers a 'fake fake' 7751 (GQ20022), mimicking the famous ETA 7751, albeit with a lot of design errors and shortcomings (wrong scale at 6, two affixed hands at 9, often misaligned minute counter at 12, to mention a few).
    So one should consume these cheap Chinese automatics from GuanQin with a grain of salt and caution. But their appearance, material selection and finishing is astonishing, esp. if compared to the way more pricy watches from Japan, Russia, Germany or Switzerland.
    BTW: I also have a "Carnival" (8730G) that appears to be a clone of my GuanQIn GJ16042, worth a review? A tiny full calendar movement with large date, running very precise at

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  Před 5 lety

      Hey thank you very much for that, really appreciate the thoughtful positive feedback! :)
      Interesting thought about the "QOORTZ" referring to the glass however quartz and sapphire are different substances, so I'm still not sure about that. Thanks for the thoughts on comparative quality between the Chinese mushrooms also, I have to agree that Guanqin does seem to be a cut above many of those others... Cadisen is one brand I have found to be roughly on par.
      Agree with your comments on the weaknesses of this watch also, and how interesting you should mention the GQ20022 model because I have actually reviewed that also: czcams.com/video/GlJBAq-p_tQ/video.html

      Perth WAtch on Maurice lacroix and other watches the complication is called a mystery dial it may have an official name , but everyone knows it as this. How it works is that the your 3 armed flywheel would be a solid disk to camouflage the second hand and make it seem to be floating and have a clear wheel on top that's stationary with the second hand marks applied to it. It basically a slight of hand.

    It's a pity it's not on sale anymore. There is a similar Parnis version, but it's a bit different - it has power reserve indicator instead of weekday and it's around 60$. And for the @QOARTZ@ screw in case-back - just maybe they had a similar quartz model with screw-in case-back and just used the surplus of those case-backs to complete these watches. I know it's strange, but it's China...

      Thanks for your reply always as usual. Just a quick question on this particular watch... to begin with... is this watch's crown screw-down which means to pop out the crown...it needs winding anti-clockwisely first, then, wind it clockwisely? For a brand new watch, even if it's an automatic watch, should I wind it after unboxing? And if yes, could you briefly explain in steps?
      I am sorry for bothering you with many inquiries in last 2-3days!:)
      Again, it is for my father. So, I will need to give him a proper instruction about maintaining this watch ^^;;

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  Před 5 lety +1

      It's not a screw down crown, just push-pull which is standard for dress style watches - I did state this in the video. You don't have to wind it at any particular time, just whenever you want to get it started. There is nothing special to the maintenance, mainly don't bang it around, and avoid changing the date between 8pm to 4am (that applies to many models).

    To be honest I personally much prefer the actual Sea-Gull watches that movement is in, like the M172S (and I've heard that Sea-Gull after performing QC sell their B-grade movements to other companies, presumably including Guanqin, and save the better ones for their own branded watches).

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  Před 6 lety

      I think this movement is quite distinct to the Seagull one that had similar layout, the structural components are not the same when you look at pics of the movement... so I'm pretty sure it's not a B grade or Seagull "reject".

    Recently I spotted it on sale again on Aliexpress. The price is ~55$, which is very nice for that kind of watch. I have my doubts about the crystal (doesn't really matter for me, but still) some buyers say they tested it and it's mineral, not sapphire. Also, all the watches are confirmed with that strange "Quartz" writing on the case-back. Nobody knows why. I quite like the watch and plan on buying one. My only complaint about it is these skeletonized hands (they hinder readability). Also, I can't get it why put lume (and poor one at that) on the hands of a dress watch?
