For years I've been knockin effin Ronnie, but when I started listening to the Faces, all that changed. He's a perfect fit. And I miss Bill in the Stones
I do agree with LeGrandeOrange that Woody was a better fit for the Faces than the Stones. But I was a big Mick Taylor fan (still am). Saw Woody "on loan" with the Stones in June of 1975 at MSG in NYC. He was awful that night, and awful on the entire tour. Ironically, I saw Woody 5 months later in Boston with Rod Stewart & the Faces - and he was great...lol. Have seen Woody with the Stones many times since '75, and he has improved measurably. Offers a lot of versatility, too. But I will always miss Mick Taylor. He gave the Stones their Blues sound, and I miss that element. I also miss Bill Wyman.
Dear Ron Wood and Bill Wyman, I don't know why this came up on my computer all these 12 years later, but can I just say that all of us in music can say thanks to bringing our profession to the next level. Ronnie Wood made playing on stage a classic with his 'You Wear it Well' video with Rod Stewart. He's got the moves that only a rock musican of quality can possess. Bill Wyman gave us the bass lines that rumbled in the backroads of our minds. Keith Richards made becoming a rebel respectable, Charlie Watts brought drums to a new level of expertise, and was the statesman of the group, and Mick Jagger just went over everyone's heads with his ability to take the ball and run with it and keep running. All the events and people who were part of the Stones just made it all the more authentic. You blokes have made us all proud -
@kolbpilot In his book Keith does mention that Bill was an incredible bass player and he Charlie were like one unit. It enabled Keith to become Keith Richards, the moves, the style of playing, the image etc, all the while knowing his rhythm section would not let him down. Bill is 7 years older than Keith, it would have been hard for him to relate back in the 60's other than by playing music together. Bill lasted 30 years and Richards certainly did not want him to leave, he got stroppy!
@Tecumseh1812 agreed! so many great bass lines. I didn't care much for "miss you" until i listened to it through a decent set of headphones and could hear that bass line come right through. bassists don't get the respect they deserve.
@Tecumseh1812 A lot of people rag on Ronnie but I look at him with amazement. The guy can draw (and probably paint), plays great guitar, and can thump the bass.
This is for you, then--watched youtubes of Worried Bout You and,uh, hope I am right, Almost Hear You Sigh, I believe it was (could have been Saint of Me), and for the first time I can remember, Bill Wyman smiles genuinely as the camera lingers on his face. I am more a writer who, like on Lovin' Cup knows he "plays a bad guitar", a rhythm guy, but I did play bass on some songs for some summer parties back in the day, and had fun (R&R All Night, Last Train To Clarksville, cpl others).
@aektzis91 ....That's a hard rhythm section to lose. Bill + Charlie really grooved well together. I didn't come to give Charlie his full respect until I bought the 4-DVD set, "FOUR LICKS"....That dude jams EVERY song!
I like their tour in america in 1981 . And bull wyman was playing such lovely tunes in his bass, Mick had a very big stages where he could run, Keith and Ronny seemed very closed in the way they were playing , charlie , the Rythm with charism. my favorites videos were : beats of burden, let's spencer the night together, just my imagination
That's very true....I've just read about the great John Entwistle walking off the video shoot for The Seeker as the camera was constantly on Daltrey, Townshend & Moon all the time....
@smautomat Keith & Mick were 15 yrs. older than I when I first starting seeing their faces in '67. I always thought Bill & Charlie were the uglier ones. But as time has gone by, I would say Bill has aged the best, especially in his 50s & 60s, to me, he looked far better than the rest. He's starting to get up there now, some, but then again, who isn't?
wow...at last someone with the same ear as me!!!....mick taylor was the best thing to happen to that band and it was the worst thing when he left....i wouldnt hold your breath waiting for mick T and bill to reappear any time soon though, mores the pity....totally with you though, my friend!!
@MottTheWot I don't begrudge Bill at all for leaving the Rolling Stones. He put his time in, made a pile of cash, and was ready to check out. Keith could huff & puff but what could he do. He ought to extend an olive branch & maybe Bill might play some.
Bill is 11 years older than Ronnie. That’s crazy. He’s aged supremely well. Now looks the youngest. Keith has also aged considerably well. The rest not so much. Mick is obviously still on top of his game physical but still looks more weathered than Keith and Bill particularly.
We're Ronnie and Bill in the band at same time I can't remember.. I seem to remember Ronnie coming in to replace Mick Taylor.. But can't remember if Bill had quit by then or not.. I could cheat and Google it but I'm sure someone on here with stones knowledge will tell tell me.. Hopefully
Darryl Jones is a superb bassist and musician far better than Bill at this point who is now 84 I believe! FYI many Stones tracks featured Keith Richards and Mick Taylor as well as Ronnie Wood on bass and not Bill. This goes way back. Sympathy For The Devil is Keith on bass. Live With Me. Many tracks on Exile and Goats Head Soup. Woodie even played bass on Emotional Rescue. Keith is also on bass on some tracks from Some Girls too
@@flyingburritobro68 Darryl is not an original member, now they look like a trio with 2 original band members. Maybe not, but he's always pleasant, always respectful, and he's not half bad. The way him and Keith play together is completely different than Keith and Mick Taylor, but that's what they go for. They blend and weave very nicely
Paullonden I can only disagree with your words about "musicwise replaceable". You see that Stones method of playing - rhythm sec. follows rhythm guitar = "heartbeat & pulse" - could never be invented by ANY OTHER PEOPLE but them three,Keith,Bill,Charlie.

Well, don't look now but Wyman was an integral part of that rhythm section along with Charlie Watts. I always get a kick out of the way Bill tends to hold his bass pointing straight up. Probably because he started out and learned on an upright bass, though I don't know this for a fact..
Wyman held the bass like that to reach the upper frets. He has tiny hands and is very short. He talks about it in one of his books. As far as your comment that they have been a bad band for over 40 years. Come on Millions and Millions disagree. They decide when to stop not you.
