- Perfect timing!!!!! This pine cone had been making crackling sounds for a few minutes (you can see part of it had already split open), so I grabbed the camera. And I got lucky and caught it cracking open.
I clicked on this thinking that it was fake; that was awesome! Lucky shot man!
The rarest and most satisfying ASMR! 😂
What a gift ! Truly incredible! This video is a Gem.
why does this look a little bit scary?
Thank you Chris for your unbeatable dedication.
The first time I ever seen pinecones opening was a large vase full of them and it scared the FUCK out of me
Outstanding video! Definitely saved....thnx
Great video, thanks
So cool!
you have a very good luck!
I love pinecones
Very cool 😎
I lived to see this :)
Thanks, bro :)
That's crazy!
Ew...looks like a bloody alien, I don't know why pinecones look so weird
☹
you clearly didnt go to erics party in 04.
Yeah,I never saw any footage from that party.
Wow
I'm nature gernade
what type of pine tree did this come from?
I'm not sure. From a tree in coastal northern California, I think it was.
Viral in 3, 2, 1
How did it open fast??
Crazy, right? It had been drying for months, and it finally gave and split open.
Cool
“What a thing is, it must be.” -Aristotle This is its ‘will to power’-a consciousness to expand and grow out of its potentials and into itself/environment in full. The physical manifestation of the invisible Tao (or Way) of nature.
😦
That thing sounded like a trip to the chiropractor. I think it's neck broke.
thats fucking disgusting
Confess that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart the God raised him from the dead, and you will be saved..you will receive the Holy Spirit
Repent of your sins. ("Repent" is Latin. It means "To Turn Away." Turn away from your sins, refuse to go back to who you once were.)
Be baptized. (Be completely submerged under water)
And the Holy Spirit will gift you.
JESUS CHRIST LOVES YOU
God bless you
Huh
You do realise that this pine cone is painted and the paint created a seal on the scales of the pine cone, right? The accumulated stress on the edges of the scales made the crack sound when the humidity dropped and the paint seal was broken. A normal non-painted pine cone opens and closes progressively. And there are plenty of videos of pine cones opening and closing in a controlled matter.
Painted? And you don't think wood splitting apart would make a crackling sound?
Well, if you could show me a video of a painted pine cone opening, I would be very interested in seeing it. I don't know how it would be possible.
@@etownump I'm doing my PhD on this topic. Pine cones without any coating don't crack when opening, even if they are 12000 years old. And the pine cone is not made of wood, the scales are a mixture of cellulose and lignin but not in the same composition as wood.
@@deepdarkmidnight Tiefe dunkle Mitternacht well, if you are doing research, you should be asking to see my pine cone , and then figure out why it opened like that. Seems like it would be valuable for your research.
But not sure what research that would be since there is no fresh pinecone in the world 12000 years old.
@@etownump Your pine cone is clearly painted. You cannot associate the crack sound to the behaviour of the scales because they simply do not behave like that. Their movement is not snapping-like, their actuation is always progressive because it's driven by water uptake. The only reason your pine cone opened like that is because a coating sealed the scales and it broke due to the stress when the humidity dropped, one can actually see parts of the coating flying off after the snap.
And there are several studies on hygroscopicity of old pine cones. A pine cone doesn't need to be fresh in order to open or close:

But I figure this is just trolling, which is all good. It's always fun listening to people try to make sound arguments. As if a million year old pine would act the same way as a fresh pine cone.
Was fun chatting.
Jesus. Sounds like bone cracking
Nature is truly a scary thing
Time to grow up
Thank goodness this pine cone is small.
Now I need to crack my knuckles
I was wearing headphones and that scared the shit outta me!
Me 2
Luckily that did not happen t me
natures popcorn
Fantastic timing!
Remarkable
Afghan! Gave me nervous 😬
I wanna know how you did not make any noise reacting. I would've been like whhhhhaAAAAATT IS THIS SORCERY?!?!?!
how??
Just luck. I heard some cracking sounds, turned the camera on, boom
@ᏰᏗᏕᏋᎴ ᎶᎧᎴᎴᏋᏕᏕ Ha. I wish. If this was fake, I could get an amazing job in video editing.
This makes me feel sick
What?? THe fuck???
This is cool and all, but after watching a bunch of videos on the sandbox tree, aka the monkeys pistol, I'm not that impressed. The seed pods, which give it the name dynamite tree and monkeys pistol, explode when ripe. They dont chemically explode but fly apart from stresses inside the pod as it dries, the seeds fly away at over 150 MPH and can cause serious injury lol. The pods are 4" in diameter and look like pumpkins. Explosive pumpkins...
Cool.
But I'm sure that phenomenon has been caught on film. I think this is the ONLY pine cone opening caught on film.
@@etownump out don't get me wrong it's still awesome, the chances of being around it with a camera when it started doing that are crazy, and it is cool seeing how that happens. And actually there isn't much footage of the seed pods bursting, only one video, and the guy hit it with a stick so technically your video is cooler because you didn't force it along... ;)
