- This shows Bill Adams famous "Triple Snap Roll" as seen on NBC "Sports In Action" February 1965. A very special thanks to Sonny Everett, one of America's foremost Aviation/Air Show commentators for tracking down this footage. I miss seeing bill Adams. So much better than the extras and zip rockets we have today! If a guy flew a stearman like that today he could book all the shows he wanted.
Bill Adams was the greatest of all time.
I was lucky enough to see Me Adams several times , no better Preformance, no better looking Stearman .
No one else like him.
Honestly I couldn't care less for the snazzy Extras and Edges or the military jets we see all time time at airshows nowadays. I want to see *real* aerobatics - the ones that push beyond the intended limits of an airplane. Stearmans doing triple snap rolls, Rockwell Commanders doing loops with engines shut down, inverted Bonanzas, barrel rolls on a 707, a Beech 18 with pyrotechnics ... those are actually impressive stuff to watch.
I've twice been a passenger in an Extra 300 performing airshow quality aerobatics but I have to say that even those rides do not beat the three passenger rides that I have had while standing on the top wing of Stearman's while the pilot gives me hammerhead stalls, loops and barrel rolls! That was just epic fun and all can be seen on my CZcams channel. There is NOTHING like the view from the top of a Stearman looking down at that prop!
Well, tell the Faa you want to see stuff beyond the limits of the plane. Theres good reasons there are limits
@@theblobfish9614 There's a difference between experts pushing beyond the *intended* limits (i.e. listed limitations) of a plane and showcasing what the engineering behind the plane can actually manifest (or at least modifying the structure to tolerate the additional load) versus hooligans running parameters 300% beyond the de-facto engineering limits on a poorly-maintained stock plane (e.g. the Partenavia P68 disaster).
@@Account4096 of course, but staying within the limits is mandatory for all, no matter the experience
@@theblobfish9614 I agree, but in terms of legal matters, special waivers and exemptions are issued to airshow performers. Thus these performers would be operating beyond the limitations prescribed for the average Joe, but still within their special extension.
I believe I saw him fly at the Old Willow Grove Naval Air Station in Horsham Pennsylvania a long time ago ?
Interesting. I was stationed there 1985-2001. WGARF closed from BRAC about 2005ish.
.......... It just keeps getting better !
I so enjoy watching that Stearman .😎
.
......... precision is the word ....!
Killed July 23, 1966 when the prop shaft separated at thrust nut threads. Prop. Hit left wing brace and wings folded.
……….. I have watched all the other stearman aerobatic pilots perform, but non of them snap roll their stearman. Bill did it with precision …!
