How to Open Your Safe by Dialing the Combination Lock

Please enjoy this step by step instructional guide on how to dial open the combination to your safe. These instructions will apply to most high quality residential safes and, high security commercial safes. Here are the instructions below:
How to Unlock Your Safe with Your Combination
There are 4 simple steps to unlock your safe. Take your time, and be precise.
Use the Opening Index, which is where you line your numbers up, located at 12 O Clock.
1. Turn Dial 4 Times to the LEFT, then stop Exactly at "Your First Number"
2. Turn Dial 3 Times to the Right, Passing "Your Second Number" twice, then stopping exactly on "Your Second Number" the Third Time.
3. Turn Dial 2 Times to the Left, Passing "Your Third Number" once, then stopping exactly on "Your Third Number" the Second Time.
4. Turn Dial Slowly to the Right until the Dial Stops and unlocks.

Jamie just helped me with a Diplomat safe we have been trying to open in the office. The codes could not be traced as employees had moved on and the documentation could not be found.
Long story short, it had been over a month of watching videos and trying all sorts of things. I reached out to Jamie and I actually got a feedback from him with some default codes to try and bang!, it worked. I am so so thankful.

I have tried and tried to open this safe with the combination, following what the previous owner told me to do...( he has now passed on) and I could not get it to open.. his written instructions matched what I found on the internet.... Many thanks for this. Someone closed and locked our safe at work with an SLR camera inside (I'm in the UK). We had all the combination numbers and the instructions on how to open the safe, but it is so much easier watching your tutorial! I took my time, as you suggested, and it worked perfectly and the camera has been retrieved!

do they always start CCW?
When you do the last step, do you have pressure on the main handle? (I don't understand why the dial would stop... does it stop hard, or could you accidentally go past the spot?)
I don't think pressure is necessary on the last step and, if you've successfully dialed the combo, you should feel it unlock on the last step and, you will ultimately not be able to turn it to the right anymore.

Hello I recently bought a Sentry safe dial combo and do not have the combo at all. Its a decent home style safe and got it at a auction last fall. I have the model and serial numbers. Is there anyway to track the combo by this at all? Sentry model D880 serial Q020048 May someone please let me know? The safe has a dial combo and a actual handle to turn and open the door. I shook this a bunch of times and it surely sounds empty.

No...No...It's : " Get the DIAMOND tipped drill OR get the Nitroglycerine. You better know WHERE on the safe to drill otherwise you'll activate one or more of the mechanical anti theft mechanisms in the lock and or safe and you'll NEVER get in. I've seen safes where jackasses have spent DAYS cutting the hinges off only to find out THAT doesn't do ANYTHING ! Ha ha ha ha ha. Other jackasses have knocked off the dial or tried to PUNCH the dial shaft straight through the safe door only to find out that only makes it HARDER to get into the safe. You gotta' know what you're doing. It's far EASIER to just DIAL INTO the safe. The lock shown in this video is VERY EASY to dial into without knowing the combination that's why this type of lock is OBSOLETE. The newer locks with the "arrow switch" in the center of them have made it nearly impossible to "dial in" to them. It takes MANY hours...sometimes more than one day... to drill into a safe and that's if you KNOW what you're doing. They call them "SAFE(s)" for a reason fella's. Good luck. Ha ha ha ha ha.
@@MC-yy2bx you’ll need more than a diamond tip bit. How about a drill rig that straps around the safe, a mag template for the particular lock and a lighted long stem magnified scope to set all the gates. Wallah!

Have you ever used a key to operate the safe? If not, perhaps the key lock is disengaged. If this is the case, you could potentially install a new key lock if the mechanism allowed for it.

If you have a double-bit key and a combination lock on the safe, what do you do first? The combo lock and then turn the key? It is an Atlas 30X8.

We've got an old wall safe (behind a picture type of safe). The dial is very stiff to turn. Is it ok to spray a little WD 40 on the dial? Thanks.

Truth be told, combination changes are a service that locksmiths, safe guys and, technicians make money on year round. This has been my only hold back. Are guys in the industry going to get mad at me for making a video on something that helps them pay their bills or, should I do it for the sake of information being available to the internet public world? I wouldn't mind hearing your thoughts on it.
+Lacka Safe Thank you for the reply. I can absolutely understand and appreciate the fact that this is a specialized type of trade. That being said, the only reason I had asked is, I had basic instructions when I bought the safe on how to proceed with a change. Your video here though, made this process so easy that I figured there would be a comparable link to the combination change. In my line of work, I have equipment that has code protection throughout, and those codes are generally not for the consumer end. There are a few exceptions however; and if an attempt is made by the customer and something goes sideways, I still may get a call to come correct the situation, as would a locksmith type, in this scenario. I see your predicament, and had not considered it until your recent posting. I'll leave that in your court as to whether or not you create something. Again, I thank you for your response and for your time!!

i like how all safes are diffent like how ur model must go past zero after the last number,but would it work well pls anyone reply, if I get an audio tester like the one youtube hs that shows the mic just from ACE would I be able to open the safe?
This should work unless the lock is an "MP" Lock or, is a 4-digit combination.

Could you configure it the number of turns it can go over the same numbers or is that pre defined ? Could you also add more numbers to make more difficult to open ?
No, you cannot configure the number of turns, you can only change the numbers. If you have a 4 wheel lock, you could make it a 4 number code.

I have aTreadlok gun safe with a combination lock. I know the combination, however , I have to enter it several times. Sometimes it seems to help when jiggle the handle. Could it just be sticky; need cleaning or new lock ? BTW I do follow the proper amount of turns on the dial . I have looked at dozens of you tube videos but none seem to have this issue.TIA
Hi Don, it sounds like you need a service technician to come out and service it and, at a minimum, change the combination. It could just be wear and tear. I would get help from a pro. If you need a referral, just let me know where you’re located (zip code). All the best.

is there anything you need to lubricate the lock with? mine is only 2 years old, but it doesn't seem to work, even when I'm careful to do it and I'm wondering if there could be corrosion? I'm also worried that lubrication may just make it sticky
Lubrication is good. However, you'd have to take the lock apart and, I don't know if that is such a good idea for you to do, unless you have trained experience doing so.
