      To be fair, there is no discussion that does not have the potential to bring you closer to nibbana, so discussing Trump is as good as discussing literally anything else. Provided you do so through the lens of the Buddha's teachings.

    There are two kinds of truth in this world, conventional reality and the ultimate reality. Daniel lives in both very comfortably... when he says "he is enlightened" that is within the parameters of the conventional reality. Many who profess to have seen the ultimate, but cannot give clear directions, This era has to thank Daniel for been open to many people who have benefited from him.

    I think it's interesting how different Daniel comes off than the stereotype of the enlightened "spiritual" teacher: slow talking, seeming almost other worldly, emphasizing peace or compassion or being heart-centered. I think he actually believes in these things but he will never sound like a touchy-feely type. The personality does not usually go away. I am also feeling discouraged because I have done many short retreats, by Daniel's standards, and have never had any of the experiences that get talked about. I was with what I guess was a very unconventional Zen teacher. A part of me wishes I had those years back but I have to admit I don't know if I could have been that disciplined.

    I have to watch this in stages for a couple of reasons but one of them is avoiding the shear annoyance at Wright's not letting Daniel finish his statements or allowing him to ask Wright a pertinent question. Wright should slightly pause after nearly every sentence to allow Daniel to weigh in, if he wants to. The interviewer has to be willing to be vulnerable. You cannot wake up without being vulnerable to your weaknesses and blind spots. I know it's hard to be on display. I've been in the hot seat but was never asking a huge audience to tune in, so if I balked, I was almost the only one to pay for it.

    Paradox about narcist-Trump voting is not necessarily about choosing that person, but to take the power away from a complicated network of elites, institutions and law created (to give it to "our" guy). It seems to be a reductive gesture, hysteric - Give it to him, only unusual (beyond ethics) skills can brake it.

  • @oolala53
    @oolala53 Před rokem

    It seems to me that a problem with having a goal of enlightenment, which is quite profound yet not what most people think it is, is that it is so far off for most people that they are frequently living with a sense that how their experience as it appears is not good enough, that this moment is missing something. Perhaps Ingram addresses this in his book.

  • @saucyjk6453
    @saucyjk6453 Před 3 lety

    In this current age, one simplicity...austerity, ones compassion, ones past suffering having led to learning first two, and ones non attachment, are far greater barometers of getting closer to this subjective goal, enlightenment, than books, degrees, techniques, explanations and even spiritual texts which had far more relevance in the age they were channelled or conceived.
    I can't tell you what enlightened is to you, but it is very clear Ingram is far from the best representative to be a leading guide to spiritual trimuth.

    People expect nibbana to be some sort of ultimate perfection, but that's not what it is. Buddha uses the word perfection, but like all of Buddha's words, he means it in a very specific way. Nibbana is nothing more than the cessation of dukkha.

    True awakening, to my mind, would mean that our central illusion of being e separate self is seen through which means that there actually is no other. It would therefore be clear that all kinds of pathological and harmful behavior that is causing painful emotions in the formerly believed to be other, is actually inflicted on oneself. This inside, truly seen, should therefore cause this kind of behavior to shift to a pattern that would reflect the truth of this insight, unless the habitual believe in the separate self arises again and throws the mind back into delusion, meaning the awakened inside has vanished, at least momentarily. Or, and this would be the alternative, that the true nature of the universe would have a strong masochistic tendency. So take your pick when considering someone to be enlightened. 😘

One also does not need a guide interpreting that text w clever academia oriented scholarship as a conduit. Desire is not necessarily the obstacle that needs to be overcome,the desire to eat,or exercise or to help some one etc etc is not the problem. The problem is Desirous attachment this is what we must overcome on the path to enlightenment,we need a well qualified teacher to explain what Desirous attachment is & then the instructions on how to gradually eliminate this kind of attachment.
