    Do you have any other methods and techniques for fitting guards?

    Awesome content sir. I am self taught and learn something from every knife I make. Tons of mistakes and research to apply to the next knife. The little things I pick up are the most valuable. Thank you for your time and shared knowledge. I can be happy but never 100 % satisfied. Perhaps I'll reach Nirvana during my knife making journey.

      I’ve never made a “perfect” knife and probably never will. Bits a moving target. 😉. Thanks for watching.

    I love videos like this one. A lot of smiths who do build videos don't cover things like this and leave the rest of us mucking about in the dark until we figure it out or find videos like yours.

      I never solder the guard, epoxy is just fine. Thanks for watching.

    absolutely great Triple T. Guard fiting is one of those things which makes knifemaker not so into hidden tang blades (in my opinion looks much better). It's cool that you point some things definitely because you expierience that, like not square tang (I've been there - nightmare). for beginer Knifemakers this episode might be super helpfull. Great job Man! As always

      @@TyrellKnifeworks hmm, not symetrical bevel, wrong blade preparation before HT, uncomfortable handle/wrong shape (for exaple chopper without guard which block handle from slicing to ricasso), wrong balanced.. wrong step order, beeing too hury- just first thoughts

    Question: Have you done any integral guards for any of your blades?

    • @TyrellKnifeworks
      @TyrellKnifeworks  Před 3 lety +1

      I’ve done integral bolsters but I’ve never done an integral guard.

  • @erikcourtney1834
    @erikcourtney1834 Před 3 lety

    How about a Damascus integral guard knife... easier with a mill but still difficult to do. 😉

    • @TyrellKnifeworks
      @TyrellKnifeworks  Před 3 lety +1

      The Gyuto chef knife build was an integral Damascus bolster. Doing that with a mill presents it’s own challenges. You have to hold the knife and mill the tang but that means flipping the knife over and having to indicate the edges again. 😬

  • @jasonbunge5756
    @jasonbunge5756 Před 3 lety

    Small correction, you were within 2 thousandths of an inch on thickness (.002), not 20 thousandths (.020), which is pretty darn close (which was your point). .020 would be a big gap relatively speaking. :-) Love your work, keep up the videos!

    • @TyrellKnifeworks
      @TyrellKnifeworks  Před 3 lety

      Yeah, I noticed that when I replayed it after. I should have put corrective text up. Thanks for watching!
