While I do think it's a little concerning that gamers are quickly getting used to "launch day" being plagued with server or stability issues, I will say, I do think it's unfair when a pretty great title or entry in a genre sees people hold back brighter praise simply because "launch day had struggles that are mostly now fixed, but did you see how bad launch day was?"

@dowOfSaturn It's not 'concerning' that gamers are getting used to it, it just shows that they're starting to understand that online games are *complicated*. When it's a AAA studio that's already used to this stuff, you can expect a quicker resolution, but for an indie developer who are launching their first game, server issues are to be expected, because server load is something that's very hard to simulate. They knew they would have issues at launch, but in order to fix the problems they needed them to happen first.

I had to watch the intro twice to understand the story. Basically, there were 2 entities and the universe with Eterra being one of the entities. She created the humans and the lands and placed 4 mythological type gods over 4 different sections of the lands. When Eterra vanishes, one of the gods (the air god) tries to take control of everything but they need a special shard that has been broken into 3 pieces and protected by the Keepers. That is their sole job. When all 3 shards are put together, it makes The Last Epoch. 2 of the shards are with different individuals. 1 shard bounces around time and doesn't stay in the same spot. Then...you go from there and start the game.

Maybe you're typing that not having any idea about the actual state of gaming and are just assuming gaming is apparently bad just cos this guy publishes like 12 videos every week attempting to try and make a 20 minute video on how Baldis Basics is gonna expose the AAA gaming industry instead of realizing not every game that releases has industry shattering effects just so you can pump out another cheap shoddy video to ragebait/clickbait people with. It's like Endymion garbage with wokeness except for gaming and arguably even worse as this guy doesn't even have a single point unlike Endymion, this guy practically only has a "feeling"...
Some games are bad, but trying to extrapolate that to the entire industry is reductive and frankly pathetic, as the games that have problems usually fall into completely different traps.

@7918 I see what you mean more so now... Going back to like 2004 or 8, you did have studios pumping out stuff every month...
I'd say part of the problem is a lot of these studios that made games way back seem to be sitting on their backsides doing nothing, but I just get the impression most people saying gaming is bad are just repeating it... If people only look to play huge AAA releases all the time then it's not too surprising that they're gonna get bored and develop into an echo chamber of people saying gamings bad and having no idea where they got it from other than that 1 YTer...
Most of the time, the obvious cure is to just look for different games, not necessarily just indie stuff... I noticed you said 2017 was pure garbage, do you count Switch stuff in that lineup? That and there are absolutely thousands of old games that everyone loves that tons of people haven't played, so maybe going to those... These are the sorts of things that create demand and get new ideas out in the open...

@@Cranzon-qw9od through its entire life cycle the switch has produced one good game (smash bros)
But you arent wrong about indies, when you dig around you can really find some hidden gems: the point is that in years past when we were kids these AAA studios would drop amazing games with gameplay that clearly put the player and their experience first and allowed profits to follow suit, instead of prioritizing shareholders concerns and ignoring their actual customers. In many ways the folly of the video game industry is the folly of late stage capitalism manifested, but thats a discussion for another time
We used to not have to seek out indie games in our search for quality; now, theres this big hole in the market that indies have found their niche in, as both players and indie devs agree that the state of AAA is indefensible. Its great in some ways (for indie devs especially) but just feels awful if you were ever a fan of a AAA franchise as a child and have to just watch it be destroyed by shoddy management nowadays (borderlands, diablo, cod, halo, god of war, even with newer games like overwatch were seeing this happen rapidly)

Corporate games are made to recover investment and shareholder profit. The bigger the marketing budget/effort the less likely that money was spent to make a great game, but rather to ensure investment recovery by building hype.
Indie games are made for gamers by gamers for the purpose of creating a game they are passionate about. Sometimes it works, many times it doesn't. But social media bypasses traditional marketing so indie games don't have to spend their budget on massive marketing and when the game is good, people find out pretty quickly.

I do wish the shattering runes weren't quite so expensive, especially considering how sparse gold is at the beginning. I don't want them super cheap either, but it can be a head scratcher trying to figure out how to craft consistently from the start of the game when people always tell me to craft as early as possible. Granted, that was before I finally started really adding rules to my filters, and I'm all for saving shatters for the yellow items, since you get more affixes from them. I just figured since blues have affixes of their own, are more frequent than yellows in the early game and piling up affix shards gets really easy by mid game, having easier access to shatter runes could let people afford to nab some lucky finds from blue items. That's just me, though, the game is a blast otherwise.

After that I just created another character so I can still feel the value of that one life my character has :) I've also got to keep my reputation with the Circle of Fortune faction and all my stash, gold, crafting materials so I'm sticking with hardcore.

Its so odd that each day at work all i can think about is when i can play LE again or weekend. Its so addictive to play. I'm level 95 falconer dive bomb build and its fun to play.
Learning what items to keep and tinker them later is so rewarding. I dont think D4 has any chance near future to compete with LE itemization and loot system. They would have to totally change game to be as fun and rewarding. Look at how many uniques LE has. Its insane and you get them at low level already. There is no for majority unique items high level requirements AND stats are always same its just range of rolling. What an awesome idea. You are ALWAYS thrilled what item you get when it drops.

This game wasn't even on my radar, and honestly, after D4, I thought I was done with this genre. I am so thankful I was wrong. I happened to see some buzz about it and saw it was only 35 bucks, so I figured, why the hell not. It has been a complete blast, and I have no regrets. It definitely has its flaws; the story is a little difficult to follow, some stuff is voice-acted while others are not, which feels disjointed. The graphics at first looked dated to me, but now after playing, I honestly don't even notice. However, where it shines is the diverse spell talent trees that unlock so many different play styles, further complemented with gear and legos and still somehow seems to not be overwhelming.

This game giving Diablo and Path of Exile a run for their money, Helldivers 2 showing what great warzone gameplay can be for a reasonable price. It's pretty awesome to see, and I'm looking forward to playing it. Makes me happy to be a Warframe player witnessing that game's best time in 11 years, while Destiny has been hyping up "AAA" experiences via flashy trailers, removing campaigns and seasons, charging more and more for less and less. They don't deserve the playerbase they have, which has been starved for innovation and content for years and still haven't gotten to truly dig in and eat.

I really don't understand the allure of HD2. The level design is so bland, with dull desert colors. You fight the same 3 type of mobs that are all just different sizes of each other. The weapons feel uninspiring and the tech deployment are behind complicated button patterns. It's a 5 / 10 game at best.

    • @RedShadowOfSaturn
      @RedShadowOfSaturn Před 4 měsíci

@@sadistical5787First of all..."complicated button patterns?" Up down left and right are..."complicated button patterns?" Are we new to video games, friend?
As for the allure, it's real simple. Indie and what are called "AA" studios have become real good at honing in on a particular type of gameplay and making the most out of that. Look at AAA examples somewhat comparable to Helldivers, at least in gameplay tone...the last couple mainline Halo games have FAILED miserably at creating a major WAR feel. Helldivers manages to not only capture it, but make it feel dynamic, to the point where players are creating their own memories during engagements. Destiny 2 released Season of the Splicer a couple years ago, where the whole theme was "hack the Vex network," and what did this massive AAA studio think "hacking" looked like? Standing in one place, and doing coop Gambit mote banking. Helldivers, and Warframe as well, may do simple things with hacking puzzles but it's still a brief few seconds away from thinking the game needs to be "constant relentless killing" to be considered "good."
There's also the fact that the war effort can also function dynamically, but the studio handling it supposedly as staff called "game masters," which will be adjusting and/or controlling the enemy forces to almost make it feel like an ongoing strategy game, PLAYING like a real time 3rd person sci fi shooter. They released with only 2 enemy factions, a third (from the original game) may have been leaked to be on the way...if I were Arrowhead, I'd get at least two new ones in, but we'll see...
Anyway, you can break down this game as "lol just shooting bad guys, average, yawn," but it leaves out so much nuance that most AAA studios leave out.
Best way I can explain it. If that's not enough, then I can't help you. Arrowhead even has on their website, the slogan, "a game for everyone is a game for no one." If you're not allured, I guess it's not for you.

first thorough review I have seen. I seen way too many people say a sentence and immediately say PoE is better in every way. I don't think they realize sooo many people do not want to play 5k hours to understand a build or have to read a 1 hour spreadsheet.
My only complaint is endgame tbh which ill be honest I haven't gotten to but seeing that there's no big bosses and hard mechanical bosses is a big turn off for me but I am going to keep playing. I don't mind grinding or playing the endgame as of now.
They did confirm today that they are focused 100% on end game and also other things "For future patches we have plans to expand the monolith, bring great new itemization options, add more boss content, class and balance updates, campaign content, etc." This is what excites me most when I get into these games early. This goes for helldivers 2. I know i will enjoy the game but I look for that roadmap or what the ceo says about it and they said this game is getting huger and lots of content is planned. That's all I need to hear.

IMO the only ARPG that had a good story was Diablo 1, that was due to the way it was delivered. As for ARPG enthusiasts, this is a golden age for us. Games like PoE, PoE 2, Titan Quest 2, Grim Dawn, Last Epoch and others, we no longer need to look back at D2 with rose colored glasses reminiscing about the good ole days... In fact we can just ignore the Diablo franchise moving forward altogether.
While Last Epoch has issues, I have faith they will continue to improve, innovate, expand and look to PoE and not Diablo 4 on how to do a live service right. While I whole-heartedly feel PoE 2 will be the gold standard of ARPG moving forward; Last Epoch is a great game to play between leagues. The issue with D4 is it's made by people who don't understand the fundamentals of an ARPG, so it will always be mediocre compared to it's competition. Some people dig it, and that's great. However, most avid ARPG players require more quality content, and less hand-holding.
My favorite thing about Last Epoch is offline mode. People have been going crazy about online mode not working since launch, and I could care less. With the Circle of Fortune I can target farm everything for any build, and not have to worry about trade.
    Good vid man.

I wish the narrative that people only play Action RPGs for items would be revised. I play Role Playing Games to Role play in the story. So story matters immensely. Last Epoch has the itemization down. If they hammer out a killer story the game will just be that more epic. PoE and Old Diablo had great story's when they came out. PoE still has fantastic writing and voice acting, but the continuity of the story has been changed so much that I don't even know what it is anymore. Kinda why it feels like the game just doesn't matter after the launch hype dies down each season. Don't want Last Epoch to just be a PoE clone where you just chase seasonal meta build items/itemization.

They added shortcuts to get to endgame faster but it doesn't make it any better. The skills at first are fun but grow old once you discover their limitations and lack of further customization. Your doing the same thing over and over and over to what end? I hope v1.1 adds lots of new stuff and fixes some of the issues and I wish the skills felt more fun and impactful.
