- I'm here to defend my honour! A few days ago I made a video where I was talking about how Disney is back in it's slump era and referenced how Meet the Robinsons amongst other movies didn't do well and therefore was a failure. This didn't mean I hated the film! Those comments are blasphemous so I'm here to prove you wrong and rant about everything that makes Meet the Robinsons great. Enjoy.

I feel like the 2000s era is an underrated part of the Disney film history. Sure they didn’t have the box office success of the Renaissance era, but I love them on the level the Renaissance era films because to me they were inventive and so original, especially compared to Disney after 2009. I love films like Meet the Robinsons, Bolt, and especially Atlantis and my favorite Disney film, Treasure Planet. They may not have been peak cinema, but they hold a special place in my heart because they were unique in their own way.
Disney was still experimenting after 2009. Wreck-it Ralph was the last risk they took. Frozen made Disney too giddy and formulaic so that’s where I’d say they fell off.
@@S-Video True, Wreck it Ralph is an experiment, but by that point the Revival era had begun with Tangled and Disney was starting to see what was profitable. Now Tangled and Frozen are different films, but there are similarities if you look at them side by side. I like Tangled because it still was experimental, but Frozen was kind of based on the structure of Tangled and I feel that’s where the problems with the revival era started to appear, even if it wasn’t quite obvious yet. Wreck it Ralph was definitely an experiment because they had never done that kind of story before, but the Revival era story structure was beginning to form during the creation of Frozen when Wreck it Ralph came out. I’m not discounting Wreck it Ralph, because it’s a good film for its time, it’s just that by that point Disney was already setting itself up for the big success that would come back to bite it less than a decade later.
A true gem of a movie. Sad that the box office went so poorly. But a lovely film.
It also has a wonderful message about “keep moving forward” which Disneys current state they might want to start taking their own advice.
Back when I first watched this movie, I liked it fine. But then my mum passed away from breast cancer. Leaving me in a care off my then stepfather and a few months later his new girlfriend. Both of whom became my abusers later. My grandparents adopted me a few inches short off committing suicide. When we went through all my stuff I rediscovered the DVD of this movie. I decided to watch it end a message really stuck with me. Keep moving forward was very important to me at that moment. Take the past, remember it, learn from it and then let it go. Keep moving forward there will be light at the end of your tunnel.
My mom and I bring up the "Big head little arms" line every few months lol
And this is also one of my favorite movies and it always sucks when some of Disney's best movies are so underrated like Atlantis and Treasure planet like you said.
I totally agree !
💯💯
All 3 are underrated
This movie came out when my brother was transitioning into the "difficult" period of his life where he eschewed just about anything that he considered childish or immature...he loved this film (and still has a soft spot for it) and he and I both agreed our favorite joke was "Is dinner like this every night?"/"No. Last night we had meatloaf."
I like to think that this movie and Mr Peabody and Sherman might takes place in the same universe, since they're quite similar. (Also adding to the fact that it's a Disney/Pixar and Dreamworks movies, they tend to share similar themes and inevitably end up compared a lot).
Cute headcanon
This film is truly an underrated gem it’s so nice seeing it get some appreciation!
Meet the Robinsons is one of my favorite movies. Meet the Robinsons may be a failure but ironically that’s the concept it encircles.
I think the only part that I disagree with you on is that the music wasn’t good. I love the music in that film and I have the songs “Little Wonders” and “The Future has Arrived” on my playlist. “Little Wonders” is one of my favorite movie songs.
I cried like crazy at the twist ending and still can't listen to Rob Thomas's Little Wonders without getting sad. It is a underrated movie
I think your analysis videos are awesome and really accurate! You definitely get some chuckles out of me and I really enjoy your videos! Thank you for the work you put in!
How well did "Lilo and Stitch" do?
The only profitable theatrical Disney film of the early 2000s.
I rewatch it almost every year and it still makes me laugh out loud
This is why I love your channel so much!
I'll be straight honest: I was one the kids who seen it on TV and it never disappointed. The funny part of the movie has to I found out it was a Disney back to the future like feel bc I saw first time bttf it was like the robbinsons minus th le dinosaur and frog. Another thing I like was hearing Tom Kenny and Patrick Warburton. And the twist at the end made me wonder does it need a sequal? No not at all because if a time traveler movie has a conclusion of thier story it does not need a sequal unless something happens in the timeline and the character they I quote, "keeps moving forward"
Yessss love this movie! Even Bowler Hat Guy’s my favorite Disney villain too!
As a 2000's kid this movie was one of my favourites.
Disney should be ashamed for being ashamed of this. I love it to death and always will.
Also, William Joyce - who wrote the book this was based off of - has got to be so lucky to get so many of his books adapted into amazing movies and shows. Rolie Polie Olie, George Shrinks, Epic, Rise of the Guardians, The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Lessermore....pure whimsy.
It's been like 5yrs since I watched it... I re watched it after seeing this video and I actually still like the movie... Brought back some really great memories
*I remember playing the video game for it. Also Treasure Planet will forever be my favourite Disney movie.*
Found your channel a few weeks ago and I’ve been loving it. I like the movies and shows that you cover, and you make very entertaining vids!
There is one thing that I remember about this movie and that was:
1. the t-rex complaining about its little arms and how poorly the plan was the through by using him.
2. ...Little Wonders. Honestly, that song is in my top 100 playlist. I listen to it constantly and as Disney songs go, I would put it in the top 20. Absolute beautiful song, I highly recommend! ❤
I still love this film. I remember coming across upon learning about obscure/underrated movies when joining the animation community in Middleschool. And eventually genuinely loving Goob as the antagonist.
In general I love these kind of villains/antagonists. There's something genuinely lovable and charming in them. Even better if they add a sympathetic background to them and it actually works. Guess I have a soft spot for these kind of characters too. They're may not look like playboys, but I don't care, I love them for their characters. (Or at least just wanna give them a big ol' hug).
I was born in july of that year when this came out
My favorite walt Disney animated studios film, hands down
We use the Big head and Little arms joke alot
Master peace
I'm so happy more people are singing praises for this movie. This has been one of my favourite, if not my fav non princess Disney movie ever since I saw it as a tween. It made me cry when I saw it on Disney channel for the first time back in the late 2000s.
2:47 Disney today: * all their movies flop *
_"This is fine"_
The only reason Treasure Planet flopped was THE ADVERTIZING. Disney failed their own movie more than once. ;o;
The Disney brand needs to change. The brand shouldn't focus on magic fantasy. The kind of magic that they should provide their audience is Movie Magic. When I watched Meet The Robinsons, I didn't care that it was a sci-fi movie that's outside the disney fantasy. It was a great movie, with great charater designs, writing, and a nostalgic/memorable sound track.
Disney needs to get their shit together, and just pay the writers & actors to make whatever genre of entertainment they want. *cough* Animation is a medium and that's a fact.
I didn't know it flopped in the box office!
_Gods, this_ really IS the _darkest_ timeline.
It's one of my favourite movies of all time!
Meet the Robinson have had been my favourite Disney movie ever^^
I watched it when I was a teenager and I wad already really obsessed with Time Travel stories.
I remember really liking every minute of it!
Besides being a really interesting Time Travel story, it's meaningful and thought provoking, inspiring and also a really emotional one~
This "Keep Moving Forward" theme is the cure for the Racism and Slavery Narrative Discussion.
Love the film, love the vid
I will say this about the movie. The Soundtrack is AMAZING!!! Seriously, the songs featured in it are really good, including a cover of "There's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" by They Might Be Giants
Ahhh yes the best one yet. Do a Travis’s of shark tale! If you could?
Keep Moving Foward.
Decided to uses Walt Disney’s quotes to motivate people like all of you
_Meet the Robinsons_ is a very flawed movie, but you can already see the light of the Second Disney Renaissance shining through the cracks.
Meet the Robinsons was a box office flop film?!?! The more you know.
It is one of the best meet your future movies!!!
I liked the movie a lot and watched repeatedly when i was a kid. It was funny with plenty of heartfelt moments.
I loved this movie!
Not sure why it didn’t do well in theaters
It's an underrated classic
I think the only thing I disagree with you is the soundtrack, though that's just my personal bias of course. Especially their most popular song "Little Wonders" by Rob Thomas I would still hear that song to this day in restaurants, grocery stories, coffee shops, etc.
Why aren't you sezing the boy?!
I know there are people who love this film and its sense of humor, but I find them wearying. I'd describe them as highly silly without being funny if you know what I mean. I do think some of the emotional moments are well done though.
5:03 in my opinion this scene was the most memorable one of all.
How Goob tells his younger self to not give up on it and really want his younger self to be happy~
I love this movie and it is one of my moms favorites
I love this movie so much.
...
That's it.
Yep and the fact they used a quote from Disney himself
I just watched the movie because of this review and i think you may have over hyped it it's just plain average and the comedy doesn't hold up in the slightest
Good? are you kidding, this shit is garbage.
