I was thinking of movie "Duel" as my brother and I were driving on Soledad Canyon Road, North of L.A. a couple of weeks ago, where many parts of that road were used in the filming of "Duel". It is still today, a very scenic drive, with not much traffic.
My goodness - I remember watching the "Duel" movie with my dad! I was almost 8 yrs old, but the movie fascinated me (and probably scared me a bit due to the psycho trucker)!
Thanks for the trip down my childhood once again Fred. Seeing adam -12 reminded me when ever we played hot wheels no matter what number was on the police car it was always 1-adam-12.
@49jubilee - Also, don't forget American Graffiti came out in '73, with Ron Howard playing essentially a Richie Cunningham type character and Paul Le Mat as a quasi-Fonzie type, although that was set in 1962, not the 50's I believe. On another note, ever wonder why there was never a Dad in the Partridge Family?
Now 20 years ago means AOL days. The internet has homogenized culture and trends to a certain extent. I think the last decade that had any identity was the 90's.... Just sayin"
I was 15 in 71. Brings back very very happy memories. Just an outstanding job Fredflix. You keep it up and I'm going to be forced to go on a binge of all your stuff. Great idea and editing.
I believe I've visited this compendium before, but I must say again: The chronology, the sense of time and exact date, are wonderful. Thank you for posting. Time travel is possible...
The night that Carol Burnett was on was the night my father watched Adam 12, He despised Carol, but I LOVE her. I never forget to watch Carol Burnett and Friends on MeTV. They say she is a very sweet woman and is always nice to fans.
@@LynxSouth I did the same in 1975 and she wrote me back. I think it was a personal response because she answered a specific question. I still love her
DUEL! Maybe one of the best movie ever made for tv (by Steven Sielberg!) It was kinda of the blueprint for JAWS. There was great tv in those days! Very fond memories of BONANZA (a show I enjoyed watching with my father), CADE'S COUNTY, THE PERSUADERS which I actually first saw in french (I live in Montreal) as AMICALEMENT VOTRE as shown here!, Juliet Mills's NANNY (much cuter and with a much less annoying voice than the 90's version!) , GUNSMOKE., WONDERFUL WORLD OF DISNEY, DORIS DAY SHOW, MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW, IRONSIDE, HAWAII FIVE-O (a household favorite for many years!), MARCUS WELBY MD and MEDICAL CENTER (more to my my mom's tastes but still watched as we had only the one tv in the house), BEWITCHED (another family favorite), ADAM-12 and MANNIX, COLUMBO (another favorite of my father), THE DEAN MARTIN SHOW, THE ODD COUPLE.. Very nice tv night watching memories! Thank you for sharing!
Maybe that's why I don't remember seeing My Three Sons either, when I was eight, my bedtime was either eight thirty or nine PM. I DVR Night Gallery on MeTV. I wondered when it came on, way too late for me to be up and watching. Friday Nights at my house was always tuned to ABC, I loved The Brady Bunch and The Partridge Family. I used to want to see The Partridge Family so badly that I would be sitting in a restaurant with the checkered table cloths and the candles , I guess it was an Italian one and lo and behold, The Partridge Family would come out and start singing. But no luck ) : I had no idea they really didn't sing together. Just Shirley and David and another bunch of singers.
Gunsmoke was what my family watched , maybe that's why I don't remember seeing Nanny And The Professor. I knew it originally came on Friday nights. Jenny Augutter was a good actress. I seen her in Logan's Run and I have also seen her in a movie called Walkabout, which was made that year. It was about two children, a boy about seven, and a girl about fifteen. Their father went insane and tried to kill them in the desert in Australia. The two children meet an Aboriginal boy and he teaches them survival skills. They used to show it on television sometimes, but they had eo edit out scenes where Jenny swims naked and another scene where all three children are swimming naked. I have a DVR of it from last year. It's a very good movie.
Wow, that's powerful, Terry! I hope you got through that and back on your feet. Largely the same thing happened to me, but later in life. I was 25. Emotionally I was still a kid, but at least I had a stable job and had lived out on my own for a while.
Starting with the '71-72 season, "The Mod Squad" became "Mod Squad" and "Arnie"'s main title sequence was changed to Sue Ann Langdon throwing Herschel Bernardi his lunchbox and it changed to a briefcase. Also, "The C,B.S. Sunday/Thursday/Friday Movie"'s main title music was rearranged that season (along with the opening sequence).
"Duel" is in my permanent collection. It's one can pull out on a rainy night at least once a year. Damn good for a "TV movie" of the time. Also, Carol Burnett was one of the first nationally known celebrities to perform at the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh, PA - And here Pittsburgh Paints is sponsoring her show. Ironically, the parent company of Pittsburgh Paints (PPG) has the naming rights to the arena that REPLACED the Civic Arena!
I lived for Friday night ABC shows -- That Girl, The Partridge Family, Nanny and the Professor and my pubescent sex-ed course Love American Style. On Saturdays, it was CBS for a look at my adult future world -- Mary Tyler Moore, and All in the Family.
I don't know why, but during the opening credits of the Odd Couple, I always thought that Jack Klugman stepped in dog poop. After all these years I finally realized it was fresh cement. You learn something new every day.
George Kennedy made a great cop. He later went on to play Bumper Morgan which was one of my dad's favorites (dad was a small town cop) and used to like the Smith Family but alas it was a short lived show.
Our name is Smith and I believe the sister on the show was named Cindy and that's my sister's name. I think that was 1971 and during that period some old, famous movie stars like Fonda (Smith Family) and Jimmy Stewart were brought into series TV but none of it worked. In fact, almost all the new shows for the 1971 season lasted just one year or less.
did anyone else just figure, that the Partridge family lived next door to the Brady's? right up until that creepy "next door neighbor" "Rickey" moved in next to the Partridge's, thereby helping to ruin, one of my better childhood memories!
Once again Fred you made my day, I've always loved the music and the voice over for the movie of the week, you even had Longstreet and Owen Marshall i use to love those shows, please keep up the excellent work Fred and once again thanks for all your hard work. 👍💯❤ # 1 fan 😊😊😊😊😊😊
It's nice to be appreciated, Janice, so thank you. Yeah, this one was a bit difficult. It had so many parts to it. I think it took about 12 hours with only taking meal breaks. But the result is worth it if it brings back pleasant memories, as you indicate it has.
That little boy on The Jimmy Stewart Show played a very good role on Ghost Story/ Circle Of Fear. He was in a wheelchair and had an evil doppelganger and this evil double caused his teacher to die. Along with the good child's cat. Decades played these shows one weekend last year.
WOW I’m sitting here with a huge smile on my face, because that really brought back some wonderful memories of my childhood. Although I totally forgot about some of them, I really enjoyed watching this. Thanks for sharing ❤️❤️
This is crazy, the best compilation uet!yet!! I loved ALL these shows!! Except.. I truly don't recall any of the shows starring the huge movie stars - Fonda, Stewart, MacLaine. Weird. And I remember all the theme songs. Thanks for cheering me up tonight!!
The Glen Campbell Goodtime hour and bewitched were sponsored by Chevrolet back in those days on a rotational basis and the program Alias Smith and Jones the narrator was Roger Davis after Pete Duel died Roger Davis took over the role . Incidentally Roger Davis was the spokesman for the 1980 Chevy Citation TV commercials when they debuted in 1979.
So strange to see what was going on in America during the week of my 11th birthday. We were lucky to get a few shown over here in the U.K. but at least two years afterwards sometimes not for five years or more!
Alot I dont remember as they were later in the night and I was in elementary school and I had to go to bed at 7:30 pm. I do remember Nanny and the Professor my favorite show and my mom watching all the other shows. Laugh in I remember too and the Mod Squad also Flip Wilson too that was funny!
The TV Guide was the Bible for viewers and the basis for planning your life every night. Hours and hours of watching these shows on long winter nights.
The days when families settled down for the evening and gathered around the tv to watch their favorite show. Now, so many channels, so many streaming services, Half the time I just turn it off because I can’t pick from all the options. My teenage granddaughter doesn’t even know what a TV program is. Young people only stream or do something on social media. I liked it better before.
I remember we always had an argument in my house on Saturday nights at 8 since we only had one TV and my sister always wanted to watch "GETTING TOGETHER" (because of Bobby Sherman LOL) while everyone else wanted to watch "ALL IN THE FAMILY"
Hi fred, Thanks for the memories! I was 14/15 in '71 and living in Westfield, NJ back then. The Good Old Days. Of the TV shows shown my favorites were Owen Marshall and Medical Center and to that end still read law and medical books on Sat or Sun, read them with ease as well. I don't remember the picture & sound quality being so terrible, though.
Oh wow this compilation of shows from.Adam 12 to Marcus Welby MD to what the 3 networks Movie of the Week courtship of Eddie's Father Room 222 that show with Karen Valentine MANIXX a show i watched alot along with Room 222 was another great show. Thanks for staring all these memories of what entertainment was like back then!
I remember Herschel Bernardi in Arnie. A decent show, but a very decent actor in more ways than one. Recall he was blacklisted during the 1950s Red Scare and had trouble securing work. Thank goodness he came back. I saw him play Tevye in Fiddler, in 1984 a role he played many times and he was amazing
We watched Getting Together mainly because All In The Family was pre-empted by the local station and AITF was tape-delayed to 6:30 (CT) Mondays. We watched The Persuaders over Mission:Impossible too. 1971 was after Martin Landau and Barbara Bain quit.
Big fan of Mannix and his many different cars. Depended on which car maker was a sponsor. Loved the Barracuda years. The first year he worked for a detective agency. God awful, much better when he became a private eye.
Remember most of these. I got to see The Jimmy Stewart Show and Nanny and the Professor with others on a channel I can't get now. Gary Collins's The Sixth Sense is syndicated along with Night Gallery for those interested.
I believe production began on the original 1973 Six Million Dollar Man TV movie while Lee Majors was still appearing on Owen Marshall Councilor At Law in late 1972.
This was the year where a lot of big movie stars late in their careers were trying out TV. Jimmy Stewart, Glenn Ford, Henry Fonda, Shirley Maclaine (even though she was much younger...hello Hollywood double standard), Anthony Quinn...
Thanks so much, Fred! I've been a little out of the loop recently but eager to get caught up. I had a crush on Julia Mills - that's the only thing I remember about Nanny and the Professor. I think the Charger game would have been a big deal that night in my neighborhood - I'm sure of it, though I don' t know if it sold out or not. I think that game was somewhere else on CZcams, but haven't finished the game yet. Great memories . . . one question: I didn't remember the Jimmy Stewart Show. Was that a short lived thing? Thanks again!
Well they had so many good TV shows on. Many of these I remember watching and they were always really good they always look forward to seeing now there's nothing really great on TV but violent weird stuff. Women sure different now kind of hard and full of tattoos even older women loaded with tattoos and the boys are looking more feminine by the day
Wow Thank you.....I keep digging and finding these treasures.some of my favourite shows growing up....well I mean I was born in 1970 but saw it all later because my parents loved these shows so much
I was thinking of movie "Duel" as my brother and I were driving on Soledad Canyon Road, North of L.A. a couple of weeks ago, where many parts of that road were used in the filming of "Duel". It is still today, a very scenic drive, with not much traffic.
Duel was and is still a great movie. Makes me scared watching it,after all these years. Superb acting.
My goodness - I remember watching the "Duel" movie with my dad! I was almost 8 yrs old, but the movie fascinated me (and probably scared me a bit due to the psycho trucker)!
Good old days for sure...makes me feel so lonely thinking about people who have passed on.
Thank you Fred so many memories of watching shows with my dad, mom and sisters. RIP.
Room 222:
One of the best, and most innovative tv shows [ for its time] - ever❗️
Thanks for the trip down my childhood once again Fred. Seeing adam -12 reminded me when ever we played hot wheels no matter what number was on the police car it was always 1-adam-12.
Adam-12 and Hawaii 50 were among my favorites as a kid. I'm still a "sucker" for cop shows!
I remember fondly. That ABC Friday night line up. Brady Bunch, Partridge Family, Room 222, Odd Couple and Love American Style.
My brother and I called it "The Friday night mass."
Yes! I loved the Friday line up. :)
Yes, which demonstrated the massive cultural changes that took place in that short time span.
@49jubilee - Also, don't forget American Graffiti came out in '73, with Ron Howard playing essentially a Richie Cunningham type character and Paul Le Mat as a quasi-Fonzie type, although that was set in 1962, not the 50's I believe.

What a treasure trove of memories that brought back-Interesting to note that the movie "Duel" was directed by a then unknown Steven Spielberg.
I remember a good number of these 📺 programs, I'm a child of the 70s. 😊
I believe I've visited this compendium before, but I must say again: The chronology, the sense of time and exact date, are wonderful. Thank you for posting. Time travel is possible...
I appreciate that, Adam.
I'm amazed at how many of these I watched and remember.
Loved Medical Center. Had picture of Chad Everett on my wall that I tore out of my Tiger Beat magazine.
He lived in Northridge, California and my dad introduced me to him in the early 90's. He would regularly come into my dad's store!
Really miss those days. Fortunately, many of these old shows are now on dvd.
They showed Duel on Svengoolie last year. I liked it.
I'm amazed at how many of these shows I remember
Lol it's been a long time
Thanks Fred 😃👍
Always great memories ❤
I am watching this Saturday 17 November 2019 exactly 48 years later!
Duel. One of my favorite movies. My brother actually had a 16mm print of that. Great stuff.
...and produced by Steven Spielberg to no less!
👍
Wow! You’ve done it again! Thank you ! Hadn’t thought of Night Gallery in years !
You're welcome, stevvie69.
FredFlix , 😉
The night that Carol Burnett was on was the night my father watched Adam 12, He despised Carol, but I LOVE her. I never forget to watch Carol Burnett and Friends on MeTV. They say she is a very sweet woman and is always nice to fans.
Fortunately, my whole family liked Carol Burnett. I wrote her a dumb letter once as a kid (1972, IIRC), and she wrote a very nice one back.
@@LynxSouth I did the same in 1975 and she wrote me back. I think it was a personal response because she answered a specific question. I still love her
You are correct. I am sure your father had good taste in many areas, but I think he missed an opportunity with Carol.
All in the Family , Brady Bunch , Partrige Family, MNF, Mary Tyler Moore , Carol Burnett .....ahhhh what great memories !!
Room 222. I was still a few years from high school and honestly believed that high school was where grown-ups went.
R I P Doris Day. and thank you for memories
She was a dear!
DUEL! Maybe one of the best movie ever made for tv (by Steven Sielberg!) It was kinda of the blueprint for JAWS. There was great tv in those days! Thanks for these great memories! I had just turned 6 and lived in front of TV 👍
Me too
I turned 11 that week. I never missed Karen Valentine on Room 222, but I didn't know why yet lol.
Remember seeing "Duel" that night with my mom and sister. Probably my fave Spielberg flick.
Again Fred. Thank you for this walk through memories! You are very much appreciated. ❤
I love that you feature the actual programs that appeared that week (not just the usual generic approach). Even the TV Guide Close-Ups were cool! :D
George Kennedy would more successfully reprise his 'Sarge' role in the 1970's as 'The Blue Knight'.
I was a senior in high school in 71, amazing how many of these shows I forgot. Really like these vids.
I'm just one year younger than you, Norm.
I love how these videos are done. Dennis Weaver, who starred in Duel, is my cousin.
Sweet. Do you keep in touch?
FredFlix No, I never got to meet him and he died a few years ago unfortunately.
Duel, oh man that was one of the best suspense movies ever made! Every time i saw that yr of Peterbuilt semi after that I cringed. lol
I've always thought he was very underrated. He was great in Centennial.
FRED OUTSTANDING AGAIN .BRINGING Back SO MANY MEMORYS
Thanks, Gerard.

Fred's time machine sure is fun to ride. Some of these shows are new to me. Then again I didn't control the TV. My parents did!
The Snow Goose was a real tearjerker.
A flashback to a time 6 weeks before my Mom died and i was suddenly an 18 yr old on my own with no family.
Wow, that's powerful, Terry! I hope you got through that and back on your feet. Largely the same thing happened to me, but later in life. I was 25. Emotionally I was still a kid, but at least I had a stable job and had lived out on my own for a while.
Oh wow! Sorry that happened to you! I lost my mom in 1982 when I was 17. It's a cruel rude awakening.
Back when movies on weekends were an event.
so glad I found you. So many fond memories that I had forgotten!
Glad you found me, Vivian.
I LOVE Night Gallery.
And its impossible to find full episodes at least for me.I'm in Europe.....
Starting with the '71-72 season, "The Mod Squad" became "Mod Squad" and "Arnie"'s main title sequence was changed to Sue Ann Langdon throwing Herschel Bernardi his lunchbox and it changed to a briefcase. My God ‼️
The Bearcats ‼️
I was 10 years old.
Loved the show ‼️
(Don’t think it ran very long though)
WOW 😮❗️
Jeff King I was 6. I watched all six episodes.
“Duel” just aired on ME-TV last Saturday night.

Everyone I knew was watching ABC at 8pm. Luv that Bobby Sherman!💝💝 And 16, Fave, + Tiger Beat Mags. Thanx for the blast from my past!
I may not remember too much TV back in '71, but at least I got to see Duel 8 years later on video.
Thanks, FredFlix. 📼
I find you fascinating
Thanks for so many wonderful memories
👍😃
George Kennedy made a great cop. He later went on to play Bumper Morgan which was one of my dad's favorites (dad was a small town cop) and used to like the Smith Family but alas it was a short lived show.
Our name is Smith and I believe the sister on the show was named Cindy and that's my sister's name. I think that was 1971 and during that period some old, famous movie stars like Fonda (Smith Family) and Jimmy Stewart were brought into series TV but none of it worked. I watched The Smith Family. Not sure why. I was 6.
Brings back so many good memories!!! Thank hou!
Duel was the scariest movie I've ever seen. The Ride along Gang eased my anxiety of trucks and truckers!
did anyone else just figure, that the Partridge family lived next door to the Brady's? right up until that creepy "next door neighbor" "Rickey" moved in next to the Partridge's, thereby helping to ruin, one of my better childhood memories!

Television the way it was in 1971
You knocked it out of the park again, Fred.(BTW, I get a kick out of your disclaimer "Not a station, really, just a guy." :-) )
Thanks, smittykins. (I'm a Smitty as well.)
WOW I’m sitting here with a huge smile on my face, because that really brought back some wonderful memories of my childhood. Although I totally forgot about some of them, I really enjoyed watching this. Thanks for sharing ❤️❤️

Love this stuff! I'm hooked.
Home from the Army, with my German Cold War Bride. I began my life, over again.
I just subscribed to your CZcams Channel and it is great. Thanks for putting together all this stuff!
Wow. What Memories. Thx for posting this!

I can remember one episode of Funny Face. Sandy was crying then she burst out laughing at a can of coffee. Bedtime for me back then was 8:30
I was born in july of 71 this is geat kinda get to look and see what my parents had to watch on TV....cool.

I was 11 years old what's such a beautiful time in my life
A great blast from the past. Some of the men were so handsome.
I miss watching TV with my parents in our rec room.
I remember as a kid watching Disney on my grandparents first color tv. There were two colors, pink and green

Bobby Sherman's " Gettin' Together" was a cute, light little show that didn't last very long...

At least you only had to wt her out one season (I think).
no, you're right "GETTING TOGETHER" only lasted 1 season
I wanted to watch "The Partners" whenever dad wasn't home. Otherwise it was Archie and Company.
Both Bonanza and the Glen Campbell Good time Hour was sponsored by Chevrolet and at times the NBC Sunday Mystery Movie was also
On November 13th, Felix Unger was asked to remove himself from his place of residence.

I always liked Mannix. Show was great and I always looked forward to seeing Mannix twirl the young girl in the tennis skirt in the intro.
I have been watching episodes here lately on YT....good show....
Big fan of Mannix and his many different cars. Depended on which car maker was a sponsor. Loved the Barracuda years.
The first year he worked for a detective agency.
God awful, much better when he became a private eye.
@@tommiesmith3191 They don't make cars like that anymore. No style to cars of today not like those muscle cars of the 60's
Remember most of these. I got to see The Jimmy Stewart Show and Nanny and the Professor with others on a channel I can't get now. Gary Collins's The Sixth Sense is syndicated along with Night Gallery for those interested.
I was born 3 days before this on the 10th of November
Nichols was really something....and Love American Style!
I loved that ABC Sunday night movie theme.
I believe production began on the original 1973 Six Million Dollar Man TV movie while Lee Majors was still appearing on Owen Marshall Councilor At Law in late 1972.
Looks like my folks never turned the channel on Friday nights in 1971. Remember all of those ABC shows very well.
as a little kid, I was obsessed by English nannies, thanks a lot, Mary Poppins!
I love Juliet Mills. So pretty, and that accent!
I remember most of this though I was only about 6yo at the time this aired (I was born in 1966).
This was the year where a lot of big movie stars late in their careers were trying out TV. Jimmy Stewart, Glenn Ford, Henry Fonda, Shirley Maclaine (even though she was much younger...hello Hollywood double standard), Anthony Quinn...

Wednesday night was Lalo Schifrin night. Medical Center and Mannix.
Well they had so many good TV shows on. Many of these I remember watching and they were always really good they always look forward to seeing now there's nothing really great on TV but violent weird stuff. Women sure different now kind of hard and full of tattoos even older women loaded with tattoos and the boys are looking more feminine by the day
My mother loved Chad Everett and Medical Center.
Wow Thank you.....I keep digging and finding these treasures.some of my favourite shows growing up....well I mean I was born in 1970 but saw it all later because my parents loved these shows so much
I've been waiting for my friday night goodies, yay!
