The Supernatural - Peter Green with The Splinter Group

  • This is a clip from a concert shown on German TV in 1998.
Even after all he has gone through, Peter Green still has magic in his fingers.
The piece was written by Peter and first recorded while with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers in the sixties. The original recording of this groundbreaking instrumental can be found on the album "A Hard Road".
If you're new to Peter Green, and you like what you hear on this track, I suggest you listen to all of his work with the band Fleetwood Mac, which he founded in 1967 and stayed with until 1970. During this period they played some of the best British blues and blues rock ever recorded.
But Peter Green is not only a unique guitarist and an accomplished songwriter (with songs such as "Black Magic Woman" to his credit), in those days he was also an outstanding vocalist - just listen to tracks like "Stop Messin' Round" or, in an entirely different vein, "Man Of The World".

That he's not sitting alone in a home filled to the brim with anti-psychotics is enough for me. His playing here, while restrained compared to the Peter of old, is still haunting and soulful. The man's contribution to British Blues and the guitar are enormous. His story is moving, cautionary but ultimately inspirational. Love you Peter!!!!

Restrained as in that he is working within the piece and not for rock n roll purposes, committing to all the feedback and giving an adrenaline fueled bursting performance is a different era for him. Restrained as in this is a creative piece not a spontaneous bit of blues myth. Just the mind and soul of Peter Green, encompassing more of a great contemporary piece and his band then styling in a more jazz like regard. I liked your comment very much

Schizophrenia is an awful burden to carry and I speak from experience, I've been on anti psychotic meds since I was 22 years old and I'm now 56.
Isolation is a reality but I'm glad Peter found his skill again and knew that people still loved him and cared that he was all right.
As a musician he was peerless, and as a human being he was blessed.
    God rest him in Heaven.

A lot of people talk shit here and I can bet that they can't play fucking "smoke on the water" . This man went through hell and back .Far away from his prime times but his guitar playing it's still beautiful . Takes courage and whole a lot of it to take the guitar again and to play whilst carrying all that shit decades ago .We should be thankful that he's alive , recovering and playing from time to time.

@@daviddoyle4516 I was at the Shrine show with the Who as well. They played back to back weekends there on the first tour, opening for Chuck Berry on the other. Then saw them in Jan '69 at the Fillmore West. At that one, they came out for their 2nd set having obviously thrown down several pints. They were all laughing milling about until Peter put his guitar down, went back and shooed Mick off the drum stool and they started into Kirwan's Jigsaw Puzzle Blues while Fleetwood went to the front of the stage and did a strip tease down to a pair of black bunhuggers. I was right down in front and on this night, tripping on mushrooms. I wouldn't of believed it if I hadn't seen it myself. Absolutely surreal. They finished out the set with Jeremy coming on and doing the Earl Vince and the Valiants Rock 'n Roll Revival....listening to KPCC and KMET in those days and attending shows at the Shrine was a R 'n R education........cheers!

Years ago when Peter emerged from the darkness.
He did a small gig at Buxton Pavillion.
I was walking backstage when this bloke grabbed my shoulder.
He asked 'how did I sound mate ?, was I any good ?.
    Never met the man before.
    It was Peter Green.
A truly humble gentle genius !.
    RIP Peter !.🧐🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

hey guys, EC,PG, and those great guitarists they have and like to experiment. In art (and music) and life to stay "green", you must always learn, see and do new things and move on. Those greats got their part (fame, art, etc.), so they don't have the time and mind for nostalgie. It's only those of us, who accomplished nothing or have no real talent, we tend to always look back at the past of those times, feel regrets and begin to compare (out of ignorance and bitterness). Cheers.

Thanks for the upload. It's such a treasure to not only have his work from "the big days" of his career, but to still have him amongst us and continuing to make music. The fact that his life hasn't been easy and he's come through with such grace is an inspiration in itself.

We all have our lives....live on...get older...younger.....but the independent factor is to enjoy it with a vision and perception of the past and future and its awareness...and the fact Peter Green is still with us.....playing as tastefully or sweeter than before.....I SEE some negative comments below which it is just a symptom of close-minded and not too much experience people in life......this no different from Hey Joe Hendrix and the slow version of Buchannam...a master piece....here the opposite..Carlos Santana made it a know Master Piece............ but the musical genius is Peter Green.....here this youuibe clip is a Father Master piece whose Carlos Santana's piece was born from........!!!....
