From $3,000 Beater To NICE Driver... My Jaguar S-Type Is DONE!

- A cheap, 5 speed manual 2003 Jag S-Type, what's not to love? I bought this old Jag with the 3.0 V6 in it and after driving it a bit, I had to fix it. After fixing the engine in the last video it was time to move on to the suspension that was basically all worn out. I'm replacing all the tie rods and sway bar end links... but when it came time to align it things went south. Now it's back on the alignment rack so I can nail the rear and finish up a bunch of other little things before it heads out the door!

Loving the Jag series. Just found one with the v6 manual for $2000 here in California and because of you, I'm getting it. Thank you JR!
That was funny hearing the tires squealing going straight.
The only thing that Jag needs is a nice new home...... Great little series back in the garage John 👍
Where is this going to be listed? Im in Tulsa and I am interested.
And a new timing chain guide.
And a new steering wheel. This thing is hideous.
You forgot the most notorious thing you fixed -- the hood struts! It wouldn't be a WatchJrGo video if you didn't have to replace hood struts.
So true... I forgot quite a few things I did 😂
Oh the humanity......do you know how many thousands have been killed by bad hood struts? LOL
@@WatchJRGo No outtro either? haha, all good. Just poking.
Absolutely loving this and the truck series. Great work JR.
For the car ninja, the module for the horn is in the left front behind the glove box. Had one where water entered the connector and corroded everything
“Steers where you want.” Always a bonus in my book
Good point. Luckily you can't find a mountain in Kansas.
"Soft kitty, warm kitty, little ball of fur! Happy kitty, sleepy kitty, purr purr purr!"
That's funny. That reference never crossed my mind
I used to sing that to an ex when she would let the kitty grow fur.
Nice to see the Jag completed! Now you have a reliable cruiser for the road!
Good to see the Jag getting the love it deserves! Can't wait to get mine riding like a dream.
Small piece of black vinyl tape on the instrument cluster glass, and “No more trouble lights!”
N.E.OH Bob
I’m keeping my fingers crossed for that broken chain guide getting fixed 🤞🏻 I saw you at the car Ninja’s place with Tyler Hoovie 😊❤
Cheap Jag, the gift that keeps on giving
These Jag rebuilds are my favorites on this channel.
Now your Jag drives as good as it looks. Well done, JR!
When you wash the car take all the seat belt out the door. Hold tension so flat on windows and pressure washer the funk ont that seatbelt.
So glad you fixed this Jag.... Often neglected but in reality a good car
I learned by doing as well and we do the best that we can do. Having made my mistakes like brake calipers installed upside-down aka right caliper on the driver side & vice-versa the bleeder screws were not the highest point.
Spent the summer of 2000 trying to figure why my car wouldnt stop correctly and will never forget when i hear someone saying a similar comment about their braking system.
I ask. "Calipers installed backwards??"
Funny story, I swapped my whole front subframe with a refurbished one, fitted it with new upper and lower suspension wishbones, on both sides, took it for alignment after installing it and everything was within limits, this was on my Mazda RX8, all the alignment was eyeballed by me, the guy who carried out the check at the alignment shop didn't believe me at first.
Cars are becoming way too complex and knowledgeable Ninj'are becoming a rare asset as well! Back to a reliable horse!
That was a *GREAT* project. Very "real world" for something that even us here in Europe could buy and try and make right
awesome series man, was fun to follow
At most alignment shops, the people doing it don't know anymore than you. The computer tells them to do something and they do it. My (and most I think) Audi's have a fixed camber, well not adjustable and based off the subframe. So if you need to make a change you can shift the sub-frame a bit. The computer won't tell you that kind of information.
That air bag light also got me stumped on my 04 XJ8
Oh man the Jag is back and sounds like it's done. Watching now and are you going to keep it or move it down the road, certainly a nice car👍
The sad thing is if the previous owner had just done routine maintenance through its life none (bar oil change) of this would have been necessary. You did a great job of playing the 'Catch Up Game'.
Jags are basically great cars but like all cars they need maintenance.
Back to your roots! Saving older good cars. Well done.
4:39 got one 👌🏻good system but like you say knowledge is everything
Your car prices in the US are crazy! I'm in the UK and a 2003 S-Type can be picked up for like £500 with a bit of an MOT! S-Types of that year just get scrapped here! (UK climate and rust doesn't help! 😂) Good to see you using the car ninja! The guys a legend! Forget the Wizard, He doesn't know his ass from his elbow, Rely's on google to fault find and loves draining your wallet! 🤣
I think this is the first time you've not had an addendum after you ended the video.
I always thought these were the best looking of all the Jags.
The air filter in the Jag looks just like the one in my 2011 Ford Ranger.
Next Stop - MotorTrend Channel!
It is so funny you put $3000 beater in the title. A beater used to be a $500 car. A $3000 car was all the money.
Inflation got everything. When the pandemic hit I warned my sister to watch the hand you can't see.
@@Cartier_specialist For sure
Every car here under $3K is a parts car, rotted out, needs a transmission or engine, etc.
Had a black 2003 Jaguar S-Type Manual and I loved it. Unfortunately it was totaled in a garage incident and I've missed it ever since. Thanks for bringing this beauty back from the brink! Loved watching its transformation.
I love Jaguars and thats how i found your channel i have a 2008 XJ Vanden Plasand a 2012 XKR convertible here in FL Congratulations and please....More Jags :)
Hey Hector Im ressurecting a 2004 XJ8 in Florida and I could use a good Jaguar speclialist. Any thoughts?
Exciting content…..just loved watching Questionable Garage to see a stock Toyota grocery getter get maintenance. WOW! Riveting……..
What a nice car!
Poor johnny those first gen x5s are GAAARRRBBBOOO
More awesome content. Thanks.
As an owner of a Volvo V70R (which was built in Ghent Belium, which I think you can hit with a stone's throw from Germany)... Jonny doesn't work on Volvos.
Man I love this car, hope it goes to a good home. I don't really understand the issue with the O2 sensors -- fortunately something that I've never really had to mess with. The sensors are obviously sending values within spec to the ECM, since the car is running so good, so why are they setting a code?
It looked like the check engine light was still own during the last drive you took?
what a lovely ford mondeo
BMW interiors are wildly easy to disassemble. Disassembled the whole interior of my E92 and had it all back together within 6 hours by myself.
Did you add a can of instant timing chain guide to the engine?
JR Please help me get my classic Mercedes Running. It's a '88 560 SEC and it's been sitting in my Aunts Garage for 4 years... But it's time to awaken the beast. Pleaseeeeeee help me JR. I'm a longtime fan and IMO you're most trustworthy mechanic on YT.
I can hear the squealing on the video!🤣
Those Hunter Hawk Eyes are pretty nice and will hold your hand through the whole process. If you know how to read it will get you aligned.
Very cool cars :) there is a way to deactivate the sensor, and make it work as a normal two stage airbag..you can buy a "box" that makes the ECU think that the sensor is ok. But you already know that hehe
10:24 Automakers should standardize more items (as ICEs come close to their end) like air filters, alternators, A/C pumps, oil filters, etc
So... Did you do the engine mounts in the end or not?
Is it missing the underbonnet sound pad ?
I like the videos. The time they come out is like waking up to your direct deposited paycheck😂😂😂😂!
yay more jag fun
The whole car is mechanically well now but the hand cheese steering wheel is what gets me LOL
I’ve got that exact X5 in that exact color and looks like exact spec. Currently for sale. It does not like short/city driving…needs to go to someone who plans to pile miles on it. Nice car but finicky.
Even pros screw up. I drove my '06 ZR2 Jimmy from NS to BC after new tires and full alignment at a major national shop. It handled like crap, so the same company checked the alignment in BC. The manager re-aligned it for free, saying he could tell that the NS franchise had used the settings for a normal 4x4 Jimmy, and not my ZR2 model.
So was that leak that destroyed your trans mount fixed too?
Are you going to do a full 'detail' on this car, by taking it through the brush car wash, like you did with the Nissan?
I have a hearing loss and able to hear that rear end squeal!
The headrest is screwing with my Type A.
I stay far away from upholstery 😬
I never heard of crab walking, but I've heard of dog tracking like all the fixed wrecks out there lol. I guess i have updated my automotive vocabulary. This car is much better, hope that chain guide holds out. Appreciate all the video's, you should have more subs than you do, because you make good content. G-d bless.
Fixed but for how long
FYI. When you are turning the car off and do not want the parking brake to engage then push down on the parking brake chrome piece until the car is off. A necessity if you do rear brakes. Second the car is highly sensitive to battery power and you can get all sorts bizarre and unrelated codes if your battery voltage is too low. Third when the battery get low you have to reset the park brake. It is a combo of using the park brake along with stepping on the brake and it will adjust itself. Why have you not used a code reader to see what the CEL is on for? It very well could be a code that is not a P-series (although that would be unusual) Very simple and if you fixed it- should be done away with. Also, after doing what you have done on the Jag, you should take off the battery and drain the capacitors so the car can adjust to the new engine parts. Surprised you have not replaced the O2 sensors. Very important to the PCM in this car.
I hope the JST goes to a good home
Don't forget get to repair the headrest!
What is going on with the headrest? It looks like it's open at the bottom
Great job! Did the Ninja find the short?
He did, it was the ignition switch! We put it back together, then I cleared the codes and pulled it out 🍻
What about the banging noise I kept hearing on the video? Sounds like it's coming from the rear suspension.
Unicorn with the manual transmission.
was it an OG X1 or the later mini based x1?
Wow. Never thought I'd see that Jaguar get done with all the other projects you got. What's the status on the cheap Escalade that you scored the dirt cheap interior deal on? Would love to get an update all of the projects you've got.
Just been waiting on the weather to jump on the Escalade, the new engine is ready to go in 🍻
Rick John always get things done and he really spend money one these cars when they find new owners and l see a lot of guys they don't even care if they fix there cars or not.
The end of fixing the S type? How about that check engine light?
That's from those junky aftermarket cats, they work but P0420 is set. Luckily it doesn't matter in KS 🍻
@@WatchJRGo Yes in Pa no pass inspection 😔
@@WatchJRGo
Spark plug non fouler ob the end of the O2 sensor will take care of that.
Check engine light still on?
Nice car again! Do you ever do some cost breakdowns so that we can see how much profit you made on each car?
What’s the deal with the drivers side headrest?
Why Is the check engine light on.?
Good alignment job but I bet the rear tires got tons of wear even for that short distance
I am gonna need you to fix that head rest for this to be a done.
What’s in the ziplock bag!!! 😮
The car ninja's electrical problem looks like a bad ground point, probably on the floor where the grounds are all ganged together on a bolt to frame.
👍Nice! The “Jaaaaaaaag” will be a great daily for someone.
how come every time you do a service, you never change the pollen filter
Nice to see that thing finished. However...the check engine light is still on as is the airbag warning light.🤔
I saw that too. Won't pass inspection in my state, not a driver yet!
why was the engine light still on?
So, is the S-type for sale now?
I rented an x1 for a birthday weekend. It is terrible. Don't know what you like about it.
Super nice to work on and that perfect BMW interior! You do need every option and M Sport for it to be right 🍻
@@WatchJRGo Mine had the red dial screen. So I think it had that M treatment. Trunk has a perpetual slant, so it's no good for a dog to enjoy :(
Something needs to be done with that steering wheel. Anything available on eBay or at a parts breaker?
I could spend another $10,000 on this car and get it to 100%, or let someone buy it for $4,000 and scrap it when they're done with it. 🍻
Won't pass inspection in NJ with the airbag light on. 😒😒😒😒
CEL and SRS lights still on = Beater 😏
Are you selling it?
Car Ninja!!
😁hey if you work on cars, you make a mistake. Best way to learn👍👍
For sure, I didn't even look at the wheel, just the readout and thought we were about there. Gotta look up sometimes! 💯
Hang on, aren't there more suspension bushes to change? 🙂
Jags of this era is so much better then any German car from same time..
Is this car for sale? Or is it going to auction/raffle? If for sale I may be interested if a certain something goes right for me in the next week or so.
I'm on the same Journey as you sir. I bought my 03 Jag S-Type at an auction on a whim now I'm determined to get it back to close to 100% as possible. in some ways it's a piece of shit, but in other ways, I love this car.
John you had that Check Engine Light. What's the problem there?
Over here in England that would be an MOT Fail which is an Annual Check of Roadworthiness for vehicles over 3 years old
You explained the Airbag light which would be another Fail.
CEL can be caused by any number of things, many of which are not serious. Could be a failed secondary O2 sensor which will not affect his the engine runs.
Why would you align it before replacing the bad rear bushings ?????
I know you love Jaguars, they are intensive labor vehicles, if you love them, you spend money on them
The X1 is just a Mini with a BMW body.
