Had one for six years in uk. Nice drive,I see he has been working on the cooling system,if it tells you it’s low on coolant but looks ok it’s because the float in the expansion tank sinks in modern coolant just bridge the sensor wire.also the tracking that all the garages will tell you is correct will wear the tyres and cause wandering steering so look up alternative settings on jag forums. Merry Christmas!!

I had a 2003 x-type 2 L diesel with nav system. For some strange reason the navi was starting but didn't show the actual position. But having a touch screen on a 2003 car, that was super nice. There are many cars these days that don't have a touch screen system. My 2011 BMW 1 series, was fitted with a small screen CIC navi, but no touch screen. I replaced it with an Android 10 HU, now it's way better than before. Some guys on Jag forum manage to create an Android version of the original navi, but implied pretty much modifications on the system. I loved my x-type, absolutely beautiful the one you had, 2.2 engine with 6 speed and up to 155 HP. I also like XJ with 2.7 L diesel, from 2005 - 2009 model. Very similar with x type, but longer. I'm not so much in love with s type, that front end is not so appealing to me, but I think it's a really nice car overall.

6.9 to 60 isn't bad considering there's a shift involved. The early 911s that did sub 5 second to 60 did it all in 1st gear because they were 4 speeds. Just to be safe you should just pop the hood on any potential car you're buying and if the struts are good run away as fast as possible.

We had a 2002 2.5 L one. It was pretty reliable for us (although the 4wd transfer box is a known weak point - not helped as the oil filler hole is lower than oil level, so refilling the oil in theory required removing the transfer box). A lambda probe failed, and a couple of rear suspension links. Ate headlight bulbs - averaged a bulb every month or so (on the drivers side a cable tie around the metal clip on the cover over the back of the headlight makes changing the bulbs a lot easier). Spark plugs on the rear bank was a bit if a pain.
Pressing the clutch caused the brake lights to flash. In theory this requires a new pedal box. I fixed it by gluing a thin bit of plastic of the tip of the brake switch.
Real odd problem was the central locking failing to work. Problem turned out to be the tiny flap over the ignition key slot. This was sticking, which caused the car to think the ignition key was still in place.

Nice find JR - I don't think I've even seen a manual version of these in the wild. I ended up finding an '05 S-Type R after you and Samcrac bought yours back in the day and I brought it back from the dead with a trans service, new plugs and coil packs. I drove it a couple years before selling to Carmax for a profit with 181,000 miles in order to buy my '04 Bentley Arnage T that I currently still own (and love). You mention the sister car, the Lincoln LS - you are right, they are VERY hard to find in good shape. I owned 2 of them before my S-Type - an '03 LS V8 and an '04 LSE V8. The LSE was the fancy/sporty model with special wheels, round fog lights/aero kit, less chrome trim and solid red tail lights. They are great driving cars, but "finicky" to say the least, especially with transmissions and brittle plastic components in the cooling systems. If you find one, try to stick to Gen 2 (03-06) as they are at least a "little" more reliable than the 1st gens, but that may not be saying a lot. Keep up the great work, your channel is the best!

I always set the parking brake in manual cars. If the car's not on a hill, i leave the manual trans in neutral as well. The reason is if you don't use them, they'll stop working or they'll stick on when someone else uses them in your car. Also in my sub-arctic climate, in the winter the cables will freeze to the surface rust and require the whole car to go in a warm space for hours unless the parking brake is used frequently enough. The thing with (most) manual parking brakes is that they're completely manual, operated by cable and they don't really wear unless they stick halfway on because some idiot didn't regularly use them. Just use them and they'll require extremely minimal maintenance. They're called E- (for emergency) brakes for a reason. Imagine the master cylinder failing leaving you with no hydraulic brakes and then yanking the parking/e-brake and it's inoperable...
In an auto car, i'll just stick it in park. If the car's on a hill, i'll use the parking brake. Naturally, i'm a hypocrite =) The parking brake on an auto is WAY more likely to stick on and create problems, but hey, i'm not in San Fransisco and the P mode is plenty good 99.9% of the time!

Interested what you find for twitchy steering. My Fit has become the same at only 60k miles, but my shop told me all the bushings etc seem fine ... A work in progress there for me. Just bought a rack guide wrench to try out in the spring.

I’m glad to see you got another s type. I love the color but the amenities are poor. No heated seats in a leather interiored car is a big no no. I also miss the beautiful wood grain accents from the wheel what i had in mine and the electric adjustable pedal row. I bet you don’t have the adjustable lombard support too. The sound system was okay to me as well i had the disc changer in the trunk. I would love to see you fixing up and upgrading the car with factory parts like heated seats, navigation etc. The s type is a very great car and it’s absolutely bringing the real Jaaaaag driving experience.

Great video! I wonder if these really had a Jaguar head on the V6 engine, because this Ford/Mazda engine had variable valve timing on a Mazda, but not on the Ford version. So, maybe it's just the version with Mazda heads. (Please correct me if I'm wrong)

I`m a Jag guy, so I have to point a couple of things out, sorry! 1. The S-Type was never a replacement for the XJ, it was supposed to be a "compact executive" 3-Series competitor, & 2. They never did an S-Type wagon, that was the X-Type (totally different car). Other than that, seems great for 2 bags! I had an early 3.0 manual & found it great! Especially the economy, which at 27-35mpg, was comfortably double the average of the XJ`s I had at the same time. The only fault I remember was the HVAC distribution block seizing, which meant no hot air, other than that, it was fine.

Oops, disregard my prior comment thought it was an 02 at first. But I do think you’re onto something with the headlights because it’s oddly low trimmed (the manuals almost always are on the LS and the S Type) and HIDs were almost always restricted to the highest trim levels in that generation. The X type was even more of a challenge to get them on. Headlights have to be worth a chunk of change by themselves regardless.

I bought a beautiful one owner fully loaded facelift 06 example which I got for believe it or not £300/$350 and it was lovely and even was rot free, with a MOT… I got mine so cheap because Jaaaaag refused to give the owner anything in PX on a new one and the owner was a work college.
My Dad had the motor and it was very reliable and the only fault it ever had, was if it stood for a week or so the EML would very occasionally come on due to the battery going flat, but my £10 code reader would sort it out no problem.
I wish I kept it as it was a lovely example, but I got my Dad an R50 as it was easier to park in the small supermarket car parking spaces over here.
But do check the sills for rot.
