All the emergency response were awesome, but that tow truck driving in reverse like that is bad ass
I drive backwards all the time
fuck yeah
he must be mator
@@madkirk7431 goddamn it here comes the nostalgia
I thought the same thing
being a former truck driver, doing the air brake test and routine inspection of your truck and trailer are key to preventing accidents like this.
Tips:
1. Drop down two or three gears before the down grade.
2. Use the "jake" brake system, keeping it engaged for 20 seconds or so. Repeat every 30 seconds or so until you have fully descended the hill.
3. Lay down the air horn if necessary to warn people to get out of your way.
4. Test the brake system prior to going down the grade. If you see the PSI level drop below 60 psi, you need to set your hazards and inspect your braking system.
These tips are not all inclusive.
For motorists....if you see a 18-wheeler coming behind you quicker than normal, get out of the way. When a 18-wheeler loses control, it will tend to veer towards the left, or the outer part of a curve. In other words, get the H**L out of the way!
It was a POS ovloV... probably the "jake" brake wasn't working due to any number of screw-ups/failures.
hi
Dennis B I bet you one thing if he survived and continues his career it won't happen again. His commercial carrier IQ tripled .it will be by the book in every detail.
Not one person required an ambulance so the states entire supply of ambulances can go home now
Dennis B & dont ride the brake down a hill & overheat the brakes. will lose pressure.
the line of ambulances sent a chill down my spine
Guy driving that rotator backwards is the MAN ! Quite a horrific accident, with great emergency response ! R. I. P. to the one that didn't make it, and hope all the others have healed an can find some peace.
❤️✌️🇨🇦
am i the only one that thinks the tow truck driver was bomb for driving that shit backwards?
Swiftmover07! Yeah...I think so.
Swiftmover07! Yeah. You are. It's easy. He has nothing behind him.
Yes😂
not,that was awesome. Good skills.
Thats Jamie Davis he has a whole big rig wreck towing show on netflix
Anyone that watches "Highway Thru Hell"...will recognize those trucks....and that road.
Mandy L. Well I would have noticed a lot sooner if it was covered in snow! Lol
It seems nobody might have recognized the R.C.M.P. officers around, both with their charactertistic vehicles and those on foot in their distinctive black unifrm pants with the wide yellow srrepes doen the outside of the legs. At first I was thinkling the U.S. rockies but soon after I saw an R.C.M.P. car and then it was Canada for sure!
Anyone who lives in BC will recognize that road with or without snow...and the "Jamie Davis" trucks are as familiar, to BC'ers as that road
Were you a dumbass female truck driverMANDY L
YOU MUST HAVE BEEN ANOTHER DUMBSHIT FEMALE TRUCK DRIVER MANDY L SICK
You can never go too slow down a hill.......but you will only go too fast "once".
Good job on capturing the video. I was riding my motorcycle from Merritt to Hope and luckily I was about 20 minutes ahead of this.
Its good you were through there by then or your bike could have been buried by a semi with you under it,very lucky
Yup! Scary.
Same for me. I had just got to Hope, the gas station, and saw all the emergency vehicles headed up the Coke. I has stuck in re-paving traffic for a long time before Hope.
keep giving untrained semi drivers a license & keep paying low wages & this will happen constantly
It's affirmative action.
talenttrading Actually, it's the fact the trucking companies want cheap drivers.
@@johnklar5131 Did you know that it is a rather common mechanical issue for a heavy truck to lose its brakes? All that has to go wrong is a engine oil gasket, a transmission oil gasket, a drive-axle gasket, a wheel seal gasket, a turbocharger gasket, a power steering pump gasket, or a fuel pump gasket to go out while the truck is moving to have a huge amount of oil or diesel fuel blowing rearward under the truck, coating the brake drums and the brake shoes. The driver tries to stop and has lost 99% or more of his braking efficiency. The same thing can happen in cars too.
Do you drive semi? Have you ever seen or been one of those idiots that don't care and pull in front of a semi with only a half a car length to spare.
@@TruckerMark52 Well, if the brakes on a 50 ton vehicle are so unreliable, something drastic needs to be done about it.
jamie davis reversing his tow truck up the hill.Is better than a lot of car drivers driving forwards.
Truck drivers used to be the most professional drivers on the road, but the dregs they hire now are just flat out dangerous. Yes, I ran OTR for 18 years.
It's sad what the industry has become isn't it?
I have noticed that as well. 3 years ago they used to be great, but the average skill of truck drivers has deteriorated.
And the older drivers are much more courteous. The ones today will see you broken down or with a flat and they don't even slow down. 32 years ago I was pulled off the road to check on my crying baby. A trucker pulled up behind me to see of I was alright. He was very nice. Now they just keep on going. So sad.
I hear ya I pulled flatbed for Yellowstone trkg for 27 years thank God I retired when I did before cell phones and little cameras and all that shit alot of horrible drivers out there today
@@richardreed9165 Yea I drove a little over 10 years and it was better back then. Now all these self-entitled, cell phone using, vblogging asshats and even more federal regulations, electronic logs have fucked it up.
It is a bummer to see a 1979 Chevrolet Malibu 2 door involved and suffering extensive damage. I love those A/G body Malibu and Malibu Classics. What a loss.
Darrell Perkins so you don’t care about the safety of the person in the Malibu?
BlueFireJack oh look what we have here, someone being the same insult they're flinging at others. Get off your high horse and get rammed by it.
MrBirdmann87 huh? I care more about the safety than what happened to the car. So you decide to come at me for shaming somebody who doesn’t care about other human beings? Hmm, you’re pretty stupid.
How would you know what another person is feeling about somebody else's safety? You're one huge piece of crap about me feeling bad. And what does the age of the comment and the video have to do with anything, just because he said that 1 year ago doesn't mean that he doesn't feel the same about other people? Oh no, so offended, called me a cunt. Oh no, super stereotypical insults ie: medical help, douche bag, troll.
Darrell Perkins I
Can we just take a moment to respect the straight pipes on that car at 3:33? 🤣
Highways thru hell: the unseen footage
I thought there was only 1 highway thru hell .... no, I forgot it's 1 highway to hell many thru though....
I knew I recognized that 80's GMC wrecker.
Heeeeeey it's Jaime Davis towing. I love "Highway thru hell" I watch all the time. That place really is a highway thru hell.
@john patacco true but some roads are easier to make mistakes then other roads especially when your a 80 ton truck.
So glad I don't drive truck anymore. as you can see by the comments a lot of us drivers have thought what to do and most would rather take there chances of dieing them selfs than to kill someone else. this had to be a newbie.
seriously, how the fuck do you wipe out 20+ cars? was he trying to hit all of them?
Years ago they actually taught drivers how to lay a truck on its side safely and how to ditch one and keep it upright if needed. Today... I don’t think they teach anything, most drivers wouldn’t know how to learn on their own.
Incompetence is running amuck in this industry, you should know before you go off a mountain that your brakes work.
sends shivers down my spine to watch this
wow crazy footage of all the ambulances responding! glad no one got killed.
0:29 And onward, that is one serious line of ambulances and EMTs.
love the scenery ......
I drive it all the time, Gorgeous aint it?
@4:51 homeboy is just chillin in his 5th wheel drinking a beer while they tow his truck away lol
Charon Christ well I mean. What would you do? Your shit is totaled. I would be
do they emergency lanes for trucks we have here in australia on ranges
well someones paying a huge bill!
James Davis towing. 👍👍👍👍👍
Hey Its Jamie Davis Towing... watch the tv show every week... love it.. too bad about the accident
yeh ahah
+*Ken Kun*
Beef can often be used as salad dressing.
HA!! the cat driving that heavy recovery truck IN REVERSE is a REAL driver!!!
Gorgeous scenery. Glad it wasn't worse.
That lengthy parade of emergency vehicles going the wrong way down the center of two lanes with stopped traffic on either side was an unusual sight.
I so wish they had these dash cams when I was still driving. 30 years on our nations highways, in all weather conditions. I have seen things, that no one believes. I wouldn't have either, if I didn't live it.
Jamie Davis to the rescue. Love Highway through Hell. Any one else? And what highway was this?
Highway 5 (coquihalla) headed east bound down the "smasher" as they call it on the show lol. The snowshed hill its better known by
like that show to
no idea but I also love the show
Looks like hes got some new wreckers since I last saw the show...nice
Savaaha Lightfoot yeah he sold the rotator Adams old t800 and some western star, he bought 2 new western stars and a Peterbilt
how did the wreck happen?
This is one of the roads featured on Highway Thru Hell tv show. The red wrecker was probably Mission Towing or Jamie Davis
Asheville NC?
Highway 5 looks so different without the heavy snow.
Somebody needs to come up with an easily manipulated center divider so that emergency crews can bypass traffic jams and actually get to the accident scene quicker .
Awesome Video keep up with a great work and be safe out there.
he should have taken that truck off the road instead of taking a chance on killing someone. yeah I've driven for almost 20 yrs.
not true you can always know when brakes are gonna fail get real
Nicky D, are you a driver, because even with a catastrophic brake failure the brakes will lock up and try to do what they are meant to do, but if they are way out of adjustment, or a clown has overheated them, they become useless. I go along with Roadking on this, I would have taken off the highway also, that is 39 years speaking and never hurt anyone.
Taking the truck off the road is also in the DOT manual. I'm in CDL school now. The book says to get the truck off the road.
Take it off road or lay it on its side, both can be done without injury. Do they teach this stuff anymore?
Nice Job driving backwards and up hill......
it was jamie davis give him a break
It was a compliment
UniquelyDezined - Artist Kathy Coulson Prough
I was thinking the same thing.
I was impressed. Beautiful rig to.
nice 80's malibu with fence post exhaust system !
I am unfamiliar with the name of this highway, what state is this? I can't get a good look at the plates to tell.
Sav3dbyGrace it's in British Columbia
Thank you
Awesome video 👍 keep up the great work 👍💪
Was the hr116 or hr117? Was rotator there?
No, the rotator was sold some time back.
And now they will say it was the peoples that repaving fault ,and not the drivers that he was doing 120 downhill without any respect for other drivers
Nope all truck drives fault. he ran the break check at the top of the hill, and his breaks were smoking then already. so no breaks going down the coq and a line up of slow cars waiting at the construction area he wasn't stopping. he also drove past 2 runaway lanes.
Brakes, not breaks.
Jeff Schouten His brakes wouldn't be smoking at the brake check spot, unless he was dragging his brakes up the hill. As the brake check lane is at the top.
There are several mistakes he could have made, that led to this accident. The driver is the only one who knows for sure, what his screw up was.
Did they ever release any findings from the investigation on this?
How to prevent dieseling?
I have never seen that many ambulances leave the scene of an accident...looks like it was a horrible one 😲
I don't understand, even if the truck lost its brakes you still have the engine brake don't you not?
That will not stop a truck and not all semis have engine brake or jakes
@@josecarbajal1164 it won't stop it but would slow it down. True though, not all have it
This in BC?
What did the truck look like?
Interstate 5 in Northern California or Oregon?
.......
Its canada you idiot.
those poor people in those little cars i am truly amazed that no one killed t Scott 29 year veteran truck driver with a great safety record this has to stop and has to stop now!!
That's a mess. Was the Highway Thru Hell team on scene filming too?
I did not see them.
+BC Fire Trucks do you work for a news company or something because you seem to be at every major incident in southern bc
Mattias B Yes... something.
I hope they where
As far as I know they only film in winter, maybe because there's more truck wrecks then. And if they filmed in summer, well, look at it. You'd have to rename it Highway through Heaven. It's gorgeous in summer.
I hope everyone survived!!
How many people were killed?
3:33. Check out the pipes on that old Chevy! I bet they made some sweet music!
JC Whitney "universal fit" custom dual exhaust system! LOL
Toad Rage lmao I was thinking the same lol
Also an MSD and flowmaster sticker. You can see an RPM gauge plus shiftlight ontop of the dash, and I think I can see another gauge in the dash. This wasn't just a car, that was a car enthusiasts car. How sad....
Doesn't look like it's a loss. Especially since the truck's insurance has to pay for it. Although they might try and give the owner a new car instead of restoring a car that old.
Take a look under the door, that looks like more than just a dent in the body that looks like considerable frame damage to me. Either way if its driveable or non-driveable chances are insurance will end up totaling it out and the owner will likely just buy a different car.
Truck: *Rams all the other cars*
Cars: Wow, that’s just cold!
HEEEEEY it's Jaime Davis towing. I watch "Highway thru hell" all the time!!! 👍
Jamie not Jaime
Was road rescue dispatched or were area fire departments dispatched.
Hope Search & Rescue
I see, I'm guessing this area is outside a fire protection district.
Hopefully everyone made it out fine but wow what a beautiful secenery! Anyone know where this is? Definitely need to travel this road someday!
34 years driving and never lost my brakes. I’ve been thru the Canadian Rockies many times. My question is where is the “run away lane”. I used to see them everywhere. I’m in Ontario now. The big hazard here is millions of unknowledgeable drivers. I think the mountains were safer, I really do, and I pulled trains the whole 34 years.
Wow what a ride. I bet he felt like GTA in that truck smashing all those cars. Miracle no one perished. The dart looks like he got the first smack. I like the Trax on the flatbed missing it's wheels and smashed up but no deployed airbags
For a moment I thought it was here in Washington State....I hope everyone is o k
Anyone know what happened to make the semi crash
since it was on the alcoholic hiway, truck driver was probably smashed on moonshine.
jason bennett Failed brakes and to high rpm to downshift
I USED TO CUT FROM I75 AT CORBIN KY. TO I81 TO GET TO BRISTOL VA. TRUCK DRIVERS ALWAYS BY PASS AREA TO PULL OFF AND CHECK THEIR TRUCKS.
No escape ramps in BC?
Highway #5 at the bottom of "The Smasher" (Box Canyon snowshed) southbound.11 Ambulances dispatched.
Can someone explain what's happened here? Was this intentional?
Wow this reminds me of our mountains we have a ramp for vehicles that brakes fail always gear down coming off the mountains I see to many people riding their brakes 😕
That's one selfish driver, why not he drove that truck to the ditch?
Was that red GMC a Jamie Davis wrecker? Find out more about his company on highway thru hell
what car is that at 3:33 ? the blue one :) thanks
dodge dart...
thanks mate :)
MrKimab '80s Chevy Malibu. not A Dart.
William Warner Good job with the Malibu. I have one like it. 4 door with a 305. Best car I've ever had. Oh, mine is without the sweet straight outs. Mine gets amazing mpg.
"oh oh I'm so sorry, sorry. oopps sorry. wait this aint gta"
I thought those roads looked like the coquihalla highway..Ive driven down that highway tons of times driving to B.C Vancouver and yeah that highway is messed up and scarey as hell at some points...
In the middle of these mountains, where did all the ambulances come from? No video in the truck? Damn!
Is this gonna make it on Highway Through Hell?!?!? Love that show!!!!
I hope there's a dash cam video of this accident (as it happened) somewhere
Really nice video!
I knew that Jamie Davis would be in this video! Was this on the Coq?
I remember seeing this on the news it was a horible site to see and thank god my dad was driving on the Fraser canyon highway and not the coquihalla because the time of the crash would have been the exact time he would have got to the where the crash is meaning he would have been involved
looks like he had a nice guard rail.
The background scene is really nice.
This is driver failure on many levels not an equipment failure. He fried the brakes then failed to exit the road. If there was no run away truck ramp, 80k lbs will go right through those concrete barriers.
First time I saw but I'm glad Jamie Davis has work in the summer time to
It’s jaw dropping to see that many ambulances going to a crash scene. Was the truck fully loaded? About 80k pounds of runaway truck coming at them. Damn.
looks like the dude hit everything but the lottery
Im a truck driver who was hit by a truck driver in Arkansas.....insurance companies try to put you back on these highways rathar then fix the problem their insured caused ....i was parked and theyve fought me for 3 years (fire and rescue insurance of america)they want me on the road with back spasms that incapacitate me for 5-10 seconds ...im putting the word out ........pass it on.....
Not sure what the bigger mess was, the crash or the exhaust pipes on the Malibu. Looks like a wheelbarrow.
Why were all the ambulances driving through stationary traffic going the opposite way?
Must have happened on the Coak! 25 miles of non-stop 8% grades on both sides of it's extremely high 10,000 foot tall summit!!! They don't call hwy 5 thru the Coak the world's most dangerous stretch of expressway for no reason!
C'mon now, it's only 4000 ft at the Coquihalla Summit and it's not the world's most dangerous stretch of express way at all lol
458mupyx no it's not the most dangerous stretch of highway, it's the idiot drivers including immigrant truck drivers who cause the collisions
Don't even Volvos have spring brakes in N. America in this day and age? No air means brakes, no stopping means overused brakes. I have had 3 runaway with me in 50 years on the road, but all were in pre full air days. The scariest thing that can happen in a wagon. Oh and plaudits to the tow truck driver flat out in reverse, all on the mirrors, a real driver. ;-)
I'm actually watching Highway Thru Hell at this moment! Jamie Davis to the rescue!!
:O I have never seen that many ambulances in a line like that. You know some serious sh** happened if there are that many. And i love how Jamie Davis just drives the tow truck backwards. Its smart because that way, you dont have to turn around again.
that dodge dart was hit so hard but that tuff dodge sub frame held up
Creative Contagion really that's sad such a well built body frame
Rip
Nobody died, but the Dart did a lot better than the Camry did.
WOW!!! It really took that many emergency vehicles?
Is that salt or sand they are pouring on leaking gas?
Neither, they use a lot of the time kitty litter, or a powder that is very absorbent, with either of those when they soak up the fuel they'll clump up and can be cleaned up quickly.
saw a red tundra and I was like yep knew it
When I was out with my trainer 6 weeks he would not let me use the Jake brake going down the mountains I had to keep and sustain safe speed and learn to stabb brake and use proper gear yeah I learned real quick
Jerry Blanton
I think you have stab and snub braking confused.
Stab is putting your foot to the floor and braking as hard as as fast as possible.
Snub braking is what is used going down hills. You determine what your safe speed is based on the grade of the hill you're descending. You apply firm braking pressure to get the truck 8-10mph below your safe speed. Release the brakes and let the speed increase to your safe speed. Then reapply the brakes to get below your safe speed. Repeat until the hill is decended. Use in conjunction with the engine brake.
Been down some nasty hills.
The sisters, cabbage, 17. Never had ANY heat issues with my brakes.
I MAKE IT A POINT TO STAY FAR AWAY FROM TRUCKS PERIOD.
