    Fun fact: This was Mark Hamill's feature film debut. He portrayed a fairy that was shot within a minute of screen time. Yeah, I can see why most people think Star Wars was his first one, especially since it was released a few months later.

      @James Williams actually I had to do a check for this but he did play as the trickster in the 90’s flash series 2 years before BTAS. Didn’t really open the same doors for him as the joker but it does show his inclination to the insane character role

      @@AnonD38 I mean Reich literally just means state, the Weimar Republic was democratic and was still counted as the second Reich so the current Germany could be reffered to as the fourth reich if it didn't have so many negative connotations. Also isn't Russia still more powerful then Germany? Particularly as the German military is pretty pathetic, even France has double the number of soldiers.

    You know what really gave me the shivers when watching this, it wasn’t a nations armies, how tanks and guns it produced or it’s industrial strength, it’s the ideology that drives it. In the movie wizards, this just shows how ideology of a bygone era can be just as powerful and can be akin to putting a spell on the masses.

      Which is why so few people know Bakshi's films, he was one of maybe 2 animated film makers using an American animation style for adult movies. I don't think any were intended for kids, but marketing agencies in the USA didn't know how to handle his work because at the time the assumption was if it was animated it was for kids.

    So happy to have this covered, love Bakshi, and I love Wizards! Definitely coming to this if I ever do a d&d for it, and definitely encourage others to check it out for some great animation, especially since most of his films are full on CZcams. But as you can tell with a ' Fourth Reich', they may not be for the faint of heart. Definitely must see classics.

    I love fantasy worlds like this, though. Whimsical fey and magic with a big splash of post apocalyptic wastelands and ancient war machines. Adventure Time and Heavy Metal have similar vibes.

    During the theatrical release of Wizards I was too young to attend, but my brother and cousins got to see it. This was when smoking weed and going to movies like this was a commonplace event for most young people. I always wanted that movie poster though.

    Could the birth of the twins in the middle of a storm have a hidden meaning?
    Also, they did not executed the survivors of the first battle with the "dream machine". There is a scene where they were handing the prisoners over to a church because the mutants did not wanted to take care of them.

    Obscure '70s Bakshi movie that is surprisingly deeper than the barely-there outfits of the protagonists that made me initially think I'm watching a mash-up of The Hobbit with Heavy Metal when I first saw this flick a decade ago? Points to Templin.
    The political situation of the Ohms/Draags co-existence of the French animated film Fantastic Planet would be an ideal follow-up to this, if we're talking obscure but deep '70s fantasy/sci-fi animation.

    This was my favorite movie when I was about 7 or 8, then I started drawing swastikas on every I could(I didn't know what they meant I just liked the pattern) and that was the end of my favorite video tape.
