Sadly as a woman who likes metal we do get treated a little unfairly by some people because of our interests. Sometimes I get embarrassed to bring up my music tastes around other women because they react similarly to this video. I don't need that kind of passive aggressive attitude in my life.
Sod them, they just don't get it. I had it as a kid in school, a girl said"metal is shit" and threw my def Leppard cassette in the school pond so I threw her in until she retrieved it.
Uhh I was like Cate Blanchet with people who didn't like rock or metal, but I grew out of it as I got older. Guess some people never grow up.
Screw 'em ...you can like what you like and f*** other people's opinions...be who you are and never be ashamed of who you are and keep on rockin'🤘
I don't need anyone's approval do I don't fear bringing up my music. If they don't like it, then I don't care. I don't need their approval.
This video was harmless compared to what I have seen. I wasn't even offended.
yoooo respect 🙏🙏 my gf starting to like metal bc of me which is amazing lmaoo
It's moments like these that make metalheads gatekeepers, I totally understand. The lack of respect that heavy music has always made me sad.
There's a difference between defending music you love, and being an asshole about it. And Gatekeeping is being an asshole.
@@devinaschenbrenner2683 I mean, you're not wrong but maybe thats there way of protecting.
Metal gatekeeping mindset is that Cate is an ignorant cvnt and Margot doesn't know real metal, haha
I don't see how gatekeeping helps or even could be a response. Someone hates on it so you take it out on someone who likes it and tell them they can't be a part of it?
Gatekeep what you love or others will come in and ruin it
If Cate Blachett is ‘555’, then Margot Robbie is ‘666’

That's true to most of us. My sister was one of my influence to metal but now she's no longer one of us, unfortunately. She stopped listening to any metal and all she listens to now is pop music. That is sad.
@@Vapegician she was just a poser , and wanted attention , real metal heads don't quit listening to metal ...
@@irrelevantdumbass5307. Nah, I beg to differ. I think there are people out there who grow out of listening to stuff like that, but that does not mean I don't think it sounds cool, I think people over time stop listening because a lot of it gets repetitive if you are not looking around more.
I never liked metal for a while until I heard of Christian hard rock and metal.
Stryper hits so much harder than the modern garbled demonic screaming. Metal is so Satanic, it is disgusting.

Look up Steve hughes. Comedian. Heavy metal advocate. Legend.
Knowledge of this just made Margot Robbie thirty times more badass and beautiful than I already thought she was... 🤘
I'm 52, and still a metalhead. I will die a metalhead. There are so many people that just don't get metal music, and will never understand it, but....we like it that way.

Same here; same age.
That's what we tell ourselves but truth is I light up when I find a fellow metalhead and and also try to get every friend I make into it, I've only succeeded with 2 but it's pretty impressive I even managed that considering how close minded most normies are
As a 51 y.o. Black male, I got static for loving metal. I also love Rap, R&B and Rock too. But metal is my passion!! \m/
Hell yeah bro!! These 3 genres you said you loved will and always will be the best music has to offer!!
And jazz dude, I love chilling in a jazz bar. Ronnie Scott's in soho is the place to be

I also got crap for liking rock and metal. From my parents and classmates.
My do you need to bring up your race?
As an older, lifelong metalhead I would tell any younger people out there into this music don't give a flying F what other people think of it. Metal isn't for everybody. Some people -- maybe most people -- will never get it. Don't apologize. Don't try to explain why it's awesome. Just enjoy it and let others think or say what they will. There are always people that will pick at you because you listen to this type of music. Shrug it off. Like what you like and don't worry about what anyone else thinks. Your family and friends may ride you over it. Live with the slings and arrows and if need be find some people that like what you like. We're out here. Some people say metal is dead but the fact that there are still more metal bands out there than even the most diehard fan can know says otherwise.
Well said.
Even IF it were “dead”, that’s just another opinion. No need to even prove whether it’s “dead” or not, just rock out to what u love. Arguing over whether it’s dead or not is really just another argument for whether it’s popular and it never will be. That’s one of the many perks of metal. It’s not some “fad” or bubblegum “cool” shit to flaunt for a few months. Those of us who love it, love it, and it doesn’t matter AT ALL whether it’s considered cool or whether it has more up and coming artists or sales or whatnot. It’s not going anywhere and neither are we 🤘🏻🖕🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻❤❤
@@RockFeed Agreed.
Marx Bane Well said. That is the perfect way to look at things.
10,000 people from my small city were screaming their heads off for Slipknot last April. Metal most definitely isn't dead.
The fun thing is, heavy metal actually shares a lot of things with baroque and early classic music (symphonic structure, variety and complexity of arrangements), while the really simple music is actually pop and the Strauss Kitsch.
Also blues and jazz.
Y'all might have me for this but I love pop too, I think almost every genre has something rad to offer
Exactly 👏👏 in todays world of music apart from classical arrangements. Metal would have to be up there being the more complex compared to the genres that are mainstream.
Complex timing, jazz /blues themes. Speed but also the challenge on how to play it …. No computers involved. It’s the hard labour of music
I was a metalhead since the 80s (from Maiden to modern metal ). And I embrace the metal-hate. It warms my soul.

@@tommyfraz. true tho
I’ve been picked up at metal shows but I’ve also been on the receiving end of some unnecessary roughness that could be probably classified as actual assault a couple times. Metal shows are just like any other gathering of people. Some are nice and others are dicks.
I went to a Megadeth Show. I got separated from my daughter during the show and next to the pit. I said out loud " shit I cant find my daughter. within 15 seconds there were , I kid you not 12 guys fanning out to find her. I hear a shout from acroos the venue with-in 2 mins. I met Cate once where I worked. She was AWESOME! So down to Earth. This kind of surprised me.
As a metal fan I have nothing against her for this. I think because Margot started off joking, she was just trying to keep the energy up by joking around with her. She’s just clearly very unfamiliar with metal as many people are.
Cate just has a boomer mindset when it comes to heavy metal stuff. Doesn't mean she's a horrible person, just outdated/misinformed.
maybe metal is just not her genre. I wonder what kind of music she prefers@@meia1855
Gotta say, I've watched your channel since you first started. It's amazing to see how much it's grown from a single guy giving reports to a full blown channel covering all aspects of rock music. Well done man! 👏
My immediate impression from her bringing up monster trucks is that she was putting it into a box of male interests.
i even thought monster trucks were just the first thing to popped into her mind trying to make a bad joke about something beeing made of metal aswell as beeing heavy.

Yeah, Blanchett was just trying to capture the moment and look witty. I cannot say enough in defense of Margot by sticking to her guns and defending her love of Metal. She seems to 'get it' and know that there is a lot more beneath the surface when it comes to our beloved genre of music. Margot, you have a standing invitation to drop in to my house and spend an evening discussing and listening to Heavy Metal music. I would highly recommend letting me spin some of my original Japanese vinyl releases with Grado headphones as the experience is simply sublime. Cocktails are on the house! 🤘👍
Believe me when I tell you that I could care less what other people think about metal. I love it and if others hate it I love it even more.

Same. Started at 7-8 years old, when AC/DC and Van Halen were introduced to me. "Jump" was all over MTV, and a neighbor had "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap". "Big Balls" was the funniest thing I'd heard up to that point to my young ears, and Eddie was the coolest guy ever, to me. Turning 46 in a few weeks.
Not only does Margot stand up for heavy metal - she still fan-girls over the fact her husband was an extra, in one of the Harry Potter movies.
What a doll.
She’s always been amazing, but this makes her even more adorable! 🔥
I'm a thirty-seven year old black dude from DC and have been listening to heavy metal since I was 11, which earned alot of weird looks. Slipknot has been my favorite band since I heard tattered and torn. Heavy metal is a genre that reminds those who are going through things that someone out there feels the EXACT same way
I agree! Growing up I felt Puerto Ricans or South American Latinos were accepted into the metal scene rather than someone black.
@MediaSaintFilms yeah back in the 90s that was indeed the case
Appreciate all your hard work Brian we appreciate all your doing for the rock community...

Just bumped into this video and your channel. Instant fan. Especially with the professionalism and overall composure u carry yourself with. It's refreshing from all the yelling and boisterous demeanor I'd see in many other reviews/critique channels. Subbed.

Ew.
i mean Monster Trucks and Heavy Metal are both equally as great as each other, and really do go quite well together lmfaooo
True but they’re not synonymous which I believe his point was. Rock on
I just posted a comment basically saying my non metal head friends thought I was into monster truck rallies and wrestling because I liked metal but they literally only thought that because they considered those to be “hardcore” things. I’m a girl and my friends were also so I don’t think they were going that route but maybe Cate was just making that association. I don’t think she meant the statement in a mean way tbh
@@GypsyRockthey’re kinda synonymous. I mean there is a lot of cross over to be fair.
Dude they should have a Slipknot sponsored monster truck!
@@kittywampusdrums4963 ngl. Im kinda surprised that they dont already lmao
I am not a big follower of slipknot I am a Dutch hardcord/gabber fan but I 100% appreciate how creative and how much they are an influence within the heavy metal scene. People disrespect these scenes and how people that are in to th heavy style of music but I have not met a better crowd in my life. I have seen bands like Oasis live and their fans are shocking throwing cups of piss over people just for a laugh. I have never seen that type of behaviour at any heavy metal gig at any rave before. So I dont get why there is such a bad name towards people that like heavy music. At the end of the day we all have a metronome in our minds that tunes in to the sound and speed we enjoy
That's what I find really confusing as, in my opinion, Cate is trying to portrait metal music as something that isn't 'real' art or 'serios' art.. making the monster truck comparison is almost like trying to make it sound cheap and simple, perhaps childish, like a quick and simple thrill. Obviously as we know metal music isn't any of this, there is lots of depth and complexity that is spun across its multi genres.. yet a respected and known artist is trying to make a very sweeping statement while her own opposed musical tastes, if are as charty as I think they are, would be very shallow and schematic... Where was she really going with this? Can one provide critique with zero insight?
Thankyou & appreciate your time to show , an honest, respectable Robbie reveal how ignorance of others, that if in a position of power or who have greatness attached from their success can believe, wrongly have knowledge or falsify facts on topics and give another's interest such stigmata is unfair, biased if not experienced yet manipulate others or damage such excellences for the wrong reasons! Another example of to gain, through the shame of one's expertise or appear of better stature against another! Robbie standing up being true, an Australian with heart who would stand up for another, no matter the calibre, but for truth. 🕊️
Little do people know about the big metal festivals like Download, Wacken, Bloodfest, Reading and etc. Just because one listens to metal more than pop or Hip Hop doesn't mean that the one who listens to metal is lesser. Anything the vocabulary of a metal song is higher than a modern pop song
I’m not much of a metal fan anymore, but usually rock fans of any genre tend to be of more sound mind and more pleasant to interact with.
Imagine you're at a slipknot concert, you turn around and you see Margot Robbie...
you never seen a woman before?
I wonder if she can still go to concerts so easily today given her high profile...
Been watching your videos for awhile and honestly definitely gonna sub. I don't know how I haven't subbed to you guys yet.
Liked the video, and your relaxed and honest delivery. I could watch more of this! Thank you.
Heavy metal saves lives! Heavy music in general. I take my aggressions out on the machines at the gym now. If I hadn’t had heavy music to work through issues I might not be here! I respect Cate as an actress but her elitism is showing…
Hey I just wanna say I like this newer format where we see you at the desk. I also still like the traditional format you've used. I think a healthy mix of both would be really cool here on the channel. Keep up the stellar work!!!!
That’s the plan! Definitely mixing it up depending on what the story or topic calls for! This is great feedback. Thank you.
Margot Robbie was already my favorite Celebrity but after this I just love her even more
First time viewer, you have a very fair and level way of expressing your views which is refreshing, yeah I've been listening to Slipknot since "99" and I live in a small town, I get that strange way people perceive metal heads, I have to say I like cate as an actor but it's hard not to be offended by her comments.
People who have never really experienced true pain and turmoil in life will never understand the beauty and therapeutic nature of rock and metal music. Cate must be one of those people just like the Kardashian/Jenna plastics.
Surprised she didn’ say “it’s just screaming”.
Thank you, I think you're doing good I can't see any part where you were either droning on or being irrelevant. I've been watching your channel for last 6 months on and off, I'm switching to watching your upload regularly because I do appreciate the quality of your work and honesty. Keep it up
Margot you legend. Not once did she downplay the fact she is a Metalhead. I'm a 54 year old wife and mother. I've seen Slipknot 3 times and my current obsession is Lorna Shore. Will Ramus is the bomb! 🤘😎🤘
In all of my years as a metal fan (thanks to my dad playing Sabbath for me when I was wee), I have always felt safe. I went to a Metallica show during the black album and a guy decided to start hitting ladies in the pit. I felt someone lift me up out of the pit and stood in front of me to protect me and a few other guys took care of the a-hole in the pit. I did get hurt at a Morrissey show. His fans are rude AF. It really gets me when people badmouth metal due to their bias and ignorance. 🤘
Morrissey is rude af also...don't understand how anyone likes him.
It's always amazed me in mosh pits how people can go from smashing the crap out of you to trying to save you if you lose your footing. Then once they're sure you're safe they start beating the crap out of you again. Good times.
As a female who goes to a variety of different shows, I agree with you. Metal pits tend to contain the most protective and genuine people. I suspect that it's all the crowdsurfing that works as a teambuilding exercise lol I always end up having such wonderful people around me who treat me like a longtime friend. Other shows, it's usually feels more hostile and cutthroat.
I love this new format Brian!

Yea now of days many people especially when it comes to celebrities think that “oh you gotta be apart of said thing or your not cool” example: rap and pop music if you don’t listen to it your like considered to be living under a rock, it’s like whenever Jennifer Laurence brings up politics so unnecessary and just straight cringe, now I’m not saying that you can’t like these things that are in I’m just saying how the majority this day in age thinks they don’t understand the wide variety of different ways of thinking and living life also on a side note Brian you looking jacked bro keep it up 🤘🏻

Thank you for addressing this. Anytime I have anxiety I listen to heavy music and it gives me a feeling that no drug or even alcohol can give me. I love you Rock feed.
Bro you killed me with "what the f*** did monster trucks do" also I got to tour the Grave Digger shop last summer, it's in the outer banks area, highly recommend 🤘🏼 but back to topic Margot being genuinely herself no matter what is what makes her own the greatest entertainers but also it lines up with loving metal right? Like I always say, I love metal so much as artist and as a listener because it's open game, nothing is off limits, we are all broken so express that! 🖤
Lol I can't believe we're glossing over the most baffling, goofy thing she said, which was "Does anyone like heavy metal music?" Like WTF DOES THAT EVEN MEAN????
lol. Yeah, that was definitely a cringe (inducing) thing to say. I like to think even Cate would say she regrets that one
She should have said, "absolutely not, those millions of fans who have bought millions and millions and millions and millions of records, and have gone to hundreds of thousands of concerts were doing it just to confuse you Cate/Kate"
I’ve had to deal with this my whole life. I’m 58 and go to concerts frequently. “We are not your kind”.

As an Aussie & Margot fan I cannot be more proud now! 😅
When I met my (ex) wife she was into pretty much everything except metal, I got her into it pretty quickly just by taking her to live shows and exposing her to the real and raw culture of metal. She was mocked by her friends but after 2-3 years my brothers and I planned our annual trip to hit the metal festivals and we found ourselves needing two extra vehicles for all the females we had "converted". For the first time we were outnumbered by the ladies and it was a thing of beauty.
We're still best friends but now she has re-married and converted her new husband (a die hard country lover) into a metal head. Just thinking of how many lives changed from me putting on "The end of heartache" and "my curse" by killswitch engaged when I first met her... it's wild! (We're all good friends to this day and going to shows/ festivals is basically our version of family reunions)

Look up the video of Margot Robbie getting some attention from bullet for my Valentine. 🥶
I'm usually not into the heavy metal genre due to where and how I grew up. But I had, like everyone who tells these stories, a couple of friends (they were brothers) who put me up on some of the music & Slipknot was a band I remember vibing with. It was different af from what I was used to but...I don't know, I just liked the whole sonics and energy behind it. And, as someone who would write out & study the words of the songs I normally listened to, I knew these dudes were on some heavy shit, even if it wasn't in my scope of reference and put that way yet. Those dudes opened me up to artist like Slayer, Megadeath, Pantera, System of a Down, Korn, Rob Zombie, & some Marilyn Manson (that's a "guilty pleasure" of mine, but not for the troubles he's had recently).
Point is, don't ever judge a book by its cover & I think it's extremely fresh that Margot took a minute to check somebody on their ignorance and disregard. I may not be of the culture per say, but, in general, metal has a special place in my place and heart.

Certain friends of mine love the music but always try to hide it in public for fear of embarrassment or something, I got this reaction from just such a friend at his 40th on the weekend when around midnight I suggested let’s pick things up and get some Metal on the wireless only to get a negative response that there’s still too many normies around, I’ve always found it strange and a little disappointing that some people have to hide their fandom
I hope you do more deep dives and videos in this style. I'm an old woman(turned 40 just yesterday) and I will tell you that the very first time I saw Slipknot was at Ozzfest in like 97? 99? Late 90's and I was blown away,.obviously. I hadn't ever seen anything like it. Aside from The Residents, I don't think I listened to any other bands that sounded insane and comprehensive all at the same time lol I It was a moment I will never forget.
Cate does seem to make Metal music out to be for some lower class peasants. And quite frankly she comes off as an insufferable cu..you know. This also reminds me of some of the comments Danielle Fishel received after posting a photo of herself at a Lamb of God show with a Lamb of God shirt on. Some people even called her "trashy"! What?! I know there's a lot of gatekeeping in the metal community and I hate that but I like that we can at least come together against these elitist, ignorant people like Cate Blanchette.
Everyone stick up and support this woman!
Stick up for what?? Who cares!?
I don't think Cate was trying to be disrespectful. She actually reminded me of my parents when I first got into metal. To people used to hearing softer, non distorted music, I can see how metal can come off initially as a wall of loud noise, much like a monster truck rally would. But hey, after hearing me listen to my music enough times, my mom grew to like it. She even liked some of it enough to buy her own metal albums. So who knows, maybe Kate is a metal fan in the making.

Bro one thing that cate doesn’t know is that she’s living in a country that is the birthplace of heavy metal
So weird to hear it from Cate Blanchett of all people
Ahhhh I don't think there's anything wrong with Cate's...weirdness here. Millions of people don't get it and that's fine. I don't get the majority of radio music the last 20 years and have no problem shitting all over it if the occasion calls for it.
I think it was a mixture of curiosity, piggybacking off the audiences vibe, plus interacting with Margot Robbie.
Margot is a class act, always has been.

Ask Cate Blanchett how many of her friends visited epstein island...
Metal head here. Everyone is always so surprised when I tell them. It relaxes me to the core. I go to sleep listening to it every night.
Blanchett was in Tár this year. It’s done like a gothic horror, about a conductor who essentially gets cancelled. She’s a classically trained actress so my guess is that’s what she’s interested in as far as music.
Could she be anymore perfect?!
Long live the Knot.
