Her son Ilia Malinin has just become the world champion in figure skating in Montreal.
❤
What a beautiful moment of pride and joy it must be for Mrs Malinina 🥰
Ilia looks so much like his dad! I believe that’s him sitting next to Tatiana..
@@Ladylore9. A LOT of people think he "takes after his mother"!
I agree with you.He looks just like her@@GARose-kt4jc
I could see Ilia's technique on her. Mom and son are so gorgeous. Good technique, height, speed. Even their style are so cool. What a gifted family.
Они и внешне похожи....
Так конечно, это мама Ильи@@user-vk1yi5ph2y
@user-vk1yi5ph2y Ilia actually resembles both his parents, but yeah, Ilia does look a lot like his mother. In the kiss 'n cry in this video, the younger guy is Roman Skorniakov who married Tatiana in 2000. I can see a resemblance that Ilia has to his father, Skorniakov, around the mouth and jaw line. Ilia was born in 2004. The couple waited 10 years before giving birth to a daughter, Ellie.
Because of Ilia , Americans are now watching Tatiana!⛸⛸⛸
Absolutely not, we know who she is. I watched her in the late 90s. She ranked high enough where we saw her perform
@@erivera4928 I was once BIG, into ice skating, but I drifted away a bit after the Tanya Harding debacle.
Exactly @erivera4928. Anyone who watched figure skating during the 1990s would remember Tatiana. She competed in the era of Michelle Kwan's domination of ladies singles. I remember Tatiana very well. When Ilia was a young skater coming up the ranks in the U.S., everyone who followed men's skating closely in the U.S. knew Ilia was Tatiana M's son. Ilia decided to use the male form of his mother's maiden name since his father's name is more difficult to pronounce. 'Malinin' sounds nicer with 'Ilia,' after all. 😊
Tatiana Malinina was the most beautiful text book jumper in that age. Her jump is an art itself with +GOE. Bravo!
Oddly enough, the flip was a new jump for her in the 1997/1998 season, and she was ALWAYS badly two-footing her Lutz prior to this as well.
Так вот, чей этот мальчик, замечательный, Илья Малинин! СУПЕР!
Dear Ms Tatiana, your son was landed all quad on 2023,25 years after your performance here.❤❤❤
I remember watching her back then and always believing she was ridiculously underscored. She is a great talent.
Same!!
Her son is Ilia Malinin. He just won the world championship.
That was faulty 6.0 system with very political judging back then. For sure, Tatiana wasn't given enough credit for her talent, but she skated for Uzbekistan, not a country with any political clout. Also, Tatiana skated in an era of outstanding ladies skaters, so it was tough. But, Tatiana did end up winning the 1998 - 99 GPF (which was at the end of the year from the 1998 Olympics performance we see in this video). She also won 1999 Four Continents.
@@nadlerskidFor sure, Tatiana's son, Ilia, with skater, Roman Skorniakov, is fulfilling all of Tatiana's frustrated figure skating ambitions. They certainly taught Ilia well. Plus, Ilia is blessed with wonderful physical attributes, perfect for figure skating. Tatiana's father was a figure skater and her mother was a gymnast. So, lots of athletic talent was passed down to Ilia, on both sides.
Yes!! Very very low numbers!! And her triple lutz is/was HUGE! 😍
Of course, she had no idea. Both Tatiana and her husband, Roman Skorniakov taught their son, Ilia (Skorniakov is the younger man in this video in the kiss 'n cry -- Tatiana's boyfriend & one of her coaches at the time). Skorniakov also skated competitively. He married Tatiana in 2000, and Ilia was born in 2004. Tatiana's father was a figure skater and her mother was a gymnast. Thus, huge talent is in Ilia's DNA.
Это был риторический вопрос😊
Wow - seeing both her and Roman sitting together when they were younger and thinking Ilia really takes after both of them equally.
These scores are so unfair. She was technically and artistically brilliant.
He's literally 50-50 it's actually funny 😂 Only difference is his eyes, both of his parents have brown eyes
Ilia definitely has his mother's fair coloring, and he resembles her around his eyes. But he takes a lot after his father around the mouth and jawline. His tall build apparently comes from his father, but bone structure is a mixture of both parents, with strong athletic genes inherited from both sides. His parents taught him beautiful technique, which is a great foundation to have. Ilia is also fearless competitively and he has nearly perfect physical attributes for skating.
Great triple lutz: outside edge, toe pick, almost no prerotation (only 1/4 resolutions on the ice). Superior technique, in my opinion, 5.8. :з
Ilia Malinin’s mom! She finished 8th at the 1998 Winter Olympics.
Ilia is a carbon copy of his mother omg. just the female version of ilia lol
No, his mom has much better body line and extension than Ilia.
@@deirdrekiely6187 It's hard to compare females and males. Ilia has impressive body line and extension for a male skater.
@@automnejoy5308 Exactly. Ilia is much taller than his mother, too. So, he is probably taking a lot of his build from his father's side. In addition, Ilia's maternal grandfather was a figure skater and his maternal grandmother was a gymnast. Talented genes were passed down for sure. Plus, Ilia's parents taught him well. And he's also getting great advice today from Raf Arutunian, Nathan Chen's coach.
A complete package totally overlooked. The judges forgot that figure skating is not all teenaged-style or Swan Lake. To skate to jazz music is more challenging, and Malinina did a fine job with this piece. She is a reminder of the classic eras in skating, which was more straightforward as in musical but not frilly. The jumps and skating skills are first-rate and textbook, and she had the whole package. However, this was the 70s-early 2000s dirty judging era, and she was not from a favoured country or group.
It's funny you say Swan Lake regarding Malinina- she skated to it for the *three* prior seasons to this in the free skate. Also, I can't agree that she did a fine job with the piece. She spent the majority of the program looking down, as if she were extremely nervous. The choreography this season seemed to drop below what she was presenting in the previous three seasons (same programs both SP and LP) as well. There is no denying her technical merit, though.
@@TonyWheeler Yes, she was more tense with this program because it is a more difficult type of music (jazz) and piece to skate to. This was also the Olympics, and more nerves are present. However, she really grew into the program later on by World Championships where she skated to it more freely and relaxed, with more flair too.
And I must add, it's not just jazz music but a sombre jazz piece by the great American jazz legend, Louis Armstrong.
@@alexsdb9712it’s Dixieland jazz. Not the same as classic jazz.
@Person-mh6xq It's in the genre, in the family. Jazz is a genre, a culture, a family. A world.
Omg she looks like a doll and her body is perfect 😢
so undermarked!
Tatiana had huge jumps and she was grossly underscored imo! Her son Illia has her eyes, and her fair coloring, but he also his dad's features as a young man! It's like looking at a young Ilia, only as a brunette! 😍✨️💖💖💖✨️⛸️⛸️
Yeah, I think Tatiana's scores should have been a bit higher. But thus was the old, faulty, very political judging system. Looking back at a lot of skaters' performances, the judging clearly sucked quite often. A lot of skaters were low-balled. Tatiana also skated during an era of amazing ladies singles skaters. It was the Michelle Kwan Era. You can clearly see Tatiana's frustration with her marks in the kiss 'n cry. Her boyfriend Roman looks more upbeat and he tries to encourage her.
Yep, you nailed it about Ilia having his mother's eyes and fair coloring, and that he also resembles his Dad quite a bit facially, and in bone structure.

SCANDALOUS MARKS!!!!!!!!!
I noticed the US judge scored her the lowest, may be it was a reflection of US-Russian national relations.

Like mother like son! Bravo! 🍀👏
I remember this from 1998! I thought she was awesome and very underrated.
Tatiana was very good technically, and she had great height on her jumps. She was competent and very competitive in an era of accomplished aesthetic and athletic skaters. The judging was very political in those days as well, and she was not supported by a powerful federation. But, Tatiana went on to win 1998-99 GPF and 1999 Four Continents in ladies singles. She married Roman Skorniakov in 2000, and gave birth to Ilia, in 2004 (perhaps her finest achievement).
Glad to see that Ilia has definitely learned the beautiful toe pick technique from his mom.
Shes way underscored in this competition

I have no idea what you said, but the thumbs up were at 199, so naturally I had to make it 200.
The jump is so good.

Ok, deductions for her step sequences, spiral, talking to a judge what have you. However, the purity and technique of her jumps and spins were first rate..that lutz!. Yes, her artistry not in same class as Kwan, Lipinsky, Lu, but this was definitely a top 6 short program.
Totally agree. Malinina was talented and competitive, but she was not supported by a powerful federation, and she did not have aesthetic skills on the level of the top ladies of that period. It was an era dominated by one of the most technically consistent and aesthetically pleasing skaters ever, Michelle Kwan.
Malinina went on to win 1998-99 GPF and 1999 Four Continents in ladies singles.
Pani Tatiano gratuluję ma Pani wspaniałego Syna🙂
Her technique on the jumps was the class of the field -- bar-none.
I Love Chen Lu but her lutz was under rotated and Tatiana had hang time. The marks are ridiculous.

Well she got three deductions. You can’t go over and address the judges because your jewelry came off. Even if you’re addressing the judge you know speaks your language. She was so shook she forgot to go straight to the referee.
When part of your costume comes off on the ice that’s a deduction. She skated through it instead of stopping and starting over or asking to wait to skate til the end of the group.
Next, to avoid skating over her jewelry she completely collapsed the circular step. Imagine you’re un molding a pie and one side caves in. She lost .3 on not finishing the circle. Or making the circle shallow.
Then the spiral step. She had to hit three positions using a serpentine spiral. She only really achieved one arabesque and her last spiral when she had to hold the leg up for 3 seconds. She let go too soon and took at least .3 on that.
So what appeared like a well jumped program got deduction on both step sequences. That’s why the artistic mark had to come down since most of your choreography is showcased with those two elements.
She learned her lesson and became quite a champion during 99-2001
IF you look at her worlds short program in 1998, she changed the spiral sequence and made the circular step much larger with a few more moves. And she got a 5.7 from one of the judges.
Thanks for the detail explanation! Now it makes sense her marks were a lot lower than I expected. I knew she was going to get deductions due to her jewelry fell off but wasn’t aware of other choreography errors she made.
Thank you for this detailed explanation.
Yes, thank you for this. The jumps were great, the spins good, but the sequences had major deductions. Not only was the pattern shallow, but the steps were really simple. And you're absolutely correct about the leg barely being above (if at all) the hip in the spiral. A lot of two-footed skating as well.
Thank you for this sound, fair, competent explanation/ assessment of this performance by Malinina. Indeed, she went on to win 1998-99 GPF and 1999 Four Continents! Her only major championship medal wins. Tatiana married Roman Skorniakov in 2000, and she gave birth to Ilia in 2004, one of her finest achievements.
Илья похож на неё!
Such low marks for a clean skate. One of the flaws of the 6.0 system was the lack of explanation for the marks.
The US judge scored her the lowest.....a reflection of US-Russian relations?
Exactly. It was a flawed system. It was exciting, though, to see the rare 6.0s for outstanding athletic and aesthetic performances.
