    I feel like a lot of bourbon enthusiasts miss out on the true 4 Roses experience bc they are unaware of all the recipes and mashbills. This was much needed and is why C.P. is truly the most important WhiskeyTube channel in HISTORY!

    Local bottle shop picked a barrel of OESO - was fortunate to get two bottles. Unfortunately, this OESO tastes like your OESQ. Have yet to finish it and still have another in the bunker.
    It was bottled in July, 2021, is 10 1/2 years old and 114 proof at $80. As mentioned, because these are single barrels, YMMV. So it’s always a roll of the dice.
    The Small Batch Select is definitely flying under the radar - hope it stays that way. Sold for ~mid$50s at first - now around $60. Local Costco had boatloads at $45 for a while a little after it first came out, then marked it up to $55 - haven’t seen it since for 1 1/2 years. This is a bottle I’ve brought on vacation because it’s easy to drink, has plenty of complexity with a decent finish. Wish list would be for it to be a little higher proof.

    Good video. Now you need to gather several single barrels of your favorite recipe from different offerings. I would love to see four or five different OESO bottles compared.

    I wonder what it would be like if they offered a small batch select single barrel where they did the blending with the six recipes that goes into small batch select as white dogs, blended them either in equal measure or in whatever proportions they usually use, then aged them and released it as a single barrel offering?

    Great video CPU! I remember Dutch mentioning in passing on a live about a year ago or so about he was collecting these bottles for a drinkthrough but was missing a couple. I’m glad to see you guys were successful in your bourbon hunting! I’m surprised to see how many of these were collected at BevMo; I wrote them off years ago as their selection sucks and their prices are much higher than TW or K&L. I might have to give them another look. Whole paycheck foods too!

      Also, I think for some good follow up/curiosity private content would be blinds between the same yeast strains with different mashbills.

    Great review! The Tiers make a huge difference in flavor, spice, and proof. While I love Tiers 5-6 (proof goes up), Tiers 3-4 are my favorites as they maintain proof through aging to give a good balance. “Typically”, Tiers 1-2 are lower proof and can lose some flavors, but much easier to drink. All in all, definitely a difference across the recipes and once you find your favorites, play with the runs and Tiers. Won’t be disappointed. Cheers.

    I have 3-5 of each recipe, it’s my favorite choice out there. Every single barrel pick is vastly different, you get some similarities based on warehouse and tier. Overall a great video, now get some of the 4R SMBLEs and compare them!

    Great video. Unfortunately OESO and OBSO are the hardest ones to find. Of the recipes I've tried so far though, OBSV and OESK are my favorites. Four Roses definitely competes for my favorite bourbon distillery alongside Wild Turkey.

  • @LRogers2806
    @LRogers2806 Před 2 lety +1

    OESO is consistently my favorite followed by OBSO, OESF/OESQ/OESV/OESK. There is a pretty big variety between barrels, which makes it fun to try sister barrels of the same recipe.

    You stated that the Spice isn't Black Pepper spice, but more of a Baking spice.
    However, several other reviews use a Black Pepper reference, especially on the first sip and might scare people away, but upon further sips, it lingers but doesn't overpower the other flavors.
    I really feel the heat of Black Pepper, but it certainly mellows over time.
    Have a nice day!

    I've only owned one of the unique recipes (OESV) outside of the regular OBSV SiB. These used to be far more available at Binnys but I haven't seen them in years now... and yes, the prices are higher than they should be.

    • @CuriosityPublic

    Four Roses barrel strength are always good buys. I was surprised to see so many from Bev Mo. I shop there fairly frequently in store and online, have a card and get emails from them frequently. I’ve never seen a Four Roses BS from them. Am I missing something?

    • @jamessocal8946

  • @JEM707
    @JEM707 Před 2 lety +3

    I agree on the OESQ as I have a 10-yr, 4-month pick. While it has a good nose, it doesn’t have much on the palate and it does finish with an oaky/tannic mouthfeel that ends up drying your mouth. I like 4R for the same reason y’all like it, the floral and spice notes. This had none of it, even if the tag described this recipe as “floral and refreshing”.
