Judy McJudgerson Tries to Wreck Christmas

  • Ah yes... the constant social media battles over Saturnalia... the virtual face punches over why we shouldn't have Christmas trees... the neverending drone of the supposed origins of Christmas... It's that time of year again!
Judy McJudgerson, the contentious Keyboard Warrior, is apparently Emma's neighbor. (Who people love to hate!) She usually hides behind her keyboard to deliver her very vocal disagreements over non essential beliefs. She doesn't like that Emma gave her a Christmas card which is associated with the evil and pagan origins of Christmas. But... is celebrating the birth of Jesus actually pagan?
Yes, I know people will be very angry and critical of this very mediocre satire video. I hope my brothers and sisters in Christ don't cancel me for disagreeing and having another opinion about this very non-essential belief. Some will be offended no matter what.
    Merry CHRISTmas.

I stopped decorating for Christmas a few years back. I know Jesus wasn’t born Dec 25, I also know about Saturnalia. But bottom line is this, bring it before the Lord and let Him direct you in your decision to celebrate or not and if so in what way, ect. I don’t judge anyone for celebrating but I am often judged for my decisions on not decorating, ect. The Bible says to do all things for the Lord so if you celebrate or don’t, do it for the Lord and be at peace with whatever you decide.

I had no idea people were so weird about Christmas. I love dedicating a whole month to meditating on the birth/first coming of Christ. My mom used to set up an advent calender that she made herself with fabric and velcro stickers. Each day we would read another verse from Luke about the birth story and put a sticker on the nativity scene. Who cares if the wise men came later--they came eventually. We would sing the Christmas Hymns, most of which are so biblical and edifying like O Little Town of Bethlehem and Hark the Herald Angels Sing. We would get to give gifts to each other. And the star on the top of our Christmas tree reminded us that there was an ACTUAL star over Him when He was born. Amazing! I've been reading the Dawn of Redeeming Grace by Sinclair Ferguson with my husband each day this month. It's a Christmas devotional. It's so encouraging and biblical. I love it. I think it is sad that there are Christians who don't see how much potential this month has to just focus on the beginning of Christ's first coming. It's so beautiful. I don't care what the world makes it about. I make it about Christ.

As someone who has for years made Christmas about gifts and Thanksgiving about black friday shopping for them, and Easter about egg hunts over and above being about God with an excuse behind it that made me justify it because it was "fun for my kids", last year when I fully accepted Jesus as my savior and read my bible, I felt convicted about my "traditions" and stopped with the shopping and decorating and the egg hunts. I even donated my Christmas decor to charity so, I dont have it in the house to tempt me to give in... that being said, I do have fond memories with my children and now grandchildren of decorating the tree and the lights and them opening gifts... Im still conflicted about whether its right or not to put up a tree and I question why the churches mixed "pagan" traditions in because it has caused much confusion. I loved your video. It made me laugh. I dont want to be a "judgey" Christian either... Im just trying to navigate my new path. Its not a salvation issue for me, but I do want to please God in my growth on this journey and I dont want to cause anyone else to stumble especially my family, by misguiding them with my examples any longer either. Praying for guidance as I learn and grow in His word.

A few years back, after I returned to the faith, I made it a point to question everything - including whether the celebration of certain holidays was pleasing to God, or was an affront to Him. As I mulled over the "Christmas issue" and prayed, I got a strong conviction - not so much about the "pagan-ness" of the Christmas traditions, but about my personal attachment to them. I asked myself the question, "If I'm so attached to a Christmas tree that I would resent giving it up for God, can I really expect that I would ever be faithful enough to give up my life for Him?"
At that point, I was uncertain whether specific traditions were acceptable or not, but decided that, for that Christmas, I would eliminate the trappings as much as possible, continue to pray about it, and make a conscious effort to evaluate whether any activity was or was not glorifying to God. I did not put up a Christmas tree (or other decorations), as I felt it had become a defacto idol in my heart. I did give gifts and attend family gatherings, as these were opportunities for me to be generous and loving, a feeble imitation of the God to whom I owe everything. The bonus of this simplification was that I was much less stressed, and more able to focus on the wonder of the incarnation.
This is not a prescription for anyone else. You are doing exactly the right thing, prayerfully learning and growing.

  • @warneachothereverydayheb.3406

I had a dream about an inflateable witch in my living room and it kept inflating until it was encroaching on valuable living space. I asked the Lord what this meant. I thought it odd that I wasn't alarmed by it being in my living when in reality I have a great aversion to do with anything like it, Halloween, etc. I told a friend and she said that I should pray for the answer. I lived for Christ-mas. I'd carefully measured and built my living room to accommodate a tree. Then when during my morning Bible reading I came across that passage in Jer.10 in the NKJV. Yes, it does sound like a "Christ-Mass" tree, but did I think that at the time? No! My mind immediately went back to that dream I'd had many months earlier! I associated it with this passasge/warning in scripture. But the part that was really ringing in my ears was "do not do the ways of the Pagans". It is actually the ways of the nations/ethnos in the Septuagint I'd suppose. Do we really understand where this tree came about? It is really silly if you think about it. We put up a tree that has nothing to do with Jesus birth for a few weeks in December/January. We decorate it and kneel down and put gifts under it. If a born again person who came from the jungles of Pau Pau New Guinea came to our home and didn't know of our custom, he'd wonder about it. (He'd been told that he had to give up his pagan ways and yet here we are doing something that frankly I'd think the Jews of Jesus's day would think was Pagan in their Jewish culture). He'd probably question what it had to do with Jesus birth. It's silly. And it sounds more like what the "pagans" did, cutting down their live evergreen trees from their "sacred groves" that the Bible talks about. Apparently, the evergreen was a sacred tree to the pagans who thought it was the "tree of life". Do we really know where this practice came from of putting up a tree? Sounds like strange fire to me. And I know that the Lord doesn't like us to copy the things that the pagans do as far as religious practice, whether we "worship" as they do or not. I lovvvvvvvvvved Christ-mas as I'd practiced it. This was so hard. So, because I wanted to honour the Lord, I ditched two of my trees and decorations. It felt very empty. But we got over it for the most part. Then it opened my eyes to the fact that it was a Catholic holy day and we should actually be celebrating the festivals of the Lord that Jesus celebrated such as Passover, Pentecost, Feast of Trumpets, Yom Kippur/Atonement, and Feast of Tabernacles which some believe the puritans copied from some Jews before they came to the new world which we now call Thanksgiving. We're really missing a lot when we don't learn about these feasts because Jesus is the fulfillment of them and we'll be keeping them anyway in the Millennium. Now we celebrate Hanukkah as Jesus declared He was God during Hanukkah, Feast of Dedication. We usually incorporate the birth of Christ during or after this time. The beauty of His birth coming God with us is still very alive in me. That I don't need to give up. It's just all the customs and decorations of the peoples around me that I don't need to keep that have been added through the years. Frankly, Christ-mass was very time consuming and no one wanted to put up the tree or take it down. So I'm quite content now to just have a simple Hanukkiah menorah. Menorah's are mentioned in the first few chapters of Revelation. Menorah is found in the Bible, in Hebrew in the OT and the Greek word is found in the Septuagint and in Revelation as said. And Jesus mentioned that we are to not hide our lamp under a bushel but put it on a lampstand (menorah) for all to see. Let our light shine before men, that they may see our "good works" and glorify our Father in Heaven.

I know that many Christians have been convicted by the Holy Spirit to abstain from traditional celebrations, and I truly believe most are trying to sincerely help others worship God in spirit and in truth and forsake the ways of man. However, you can't be the Holy Spirit for someone else. You can only plant seeds in love. I understand why people feel judged or attacked when the things they hold close are questioned. In regards to birthdays and paganism, I discovered that to the “Church of Satan,” these are the top three most important days: 3) Halloween (Oct 31), 2) Walpurgisnacht/Beltane Festival (April 30), 1) Birthdays. Here’s part of what Anton Levey said:
“THE highest of all holidays in the Satanic religion is the date of one’s own birth. This is in direct contradiction to the holy of holy days of other religions, which deify a particular god who has been created in an anthropomorphic form of their own image, thereby showing that the ego is not really buried. …The Satanist feels: “Why not really be honest and if you are going to create a god in your image, why not create that god as yourself.” Every man is a god if he chooses to recognize himself as one. So, the Satanist celebrates his own birthday as the most important holiday of the year.…” www.cogwriter.com/news/doctrine/the-satanic-bible-and-birthdays/
it’s a crazy stance, but after discovering the early Church never celebrated birthdays, and the concept of “celebrating birthdays” isn’t in the Bible but rooted in wishes and magic, I don’t want to participate in any traditions but remembering the Day of Atonement each day and live in obedience! I will not condemn a brother or sister over birthdays or Christmas because we need to let the Holy Spirit lead us into truth and righteousness. Forgot to mention the Yule tree, and also how the "Ho Ho Ho" actually comes from a half-goat demon called Robin GoodFellow. How Santa's chariot is strikingly similar to Raphael Urbino's depiction of "god" Saturnus. The gift-exchanging did start in Saturnalia. It was not just on the 17th but actually an entire week dedicated to lavish banquets and presents.
Also worth mentioning that Nicolaus is accompanied by a goat-demon called Campus in Germanic countries. How very little XMAS has to do with Christ. There are too many "coincidences" for us to brush them off as being insignificant. I know it's not the same issue but I find it incredibly ironic how God despises the teachings of the Nicolaites.
None of the Holidays celebrated by the world are there to exalt god. Do you guys really think that the god of this world would give so much air-time to something that remotely honours Christ? Really? Alas, each to its own conscience.

Yule is a pre-Christian celebration from December 21st well into January. An homage to the fertility god Yule, with lots of wreaths and trees and carols.
"The tradition of kissing under the mistletoe started in , during the festival of Saturnalia and later in marriage ceremonies, because of the plant's association with fertility. During the Roman era, enemies at war would reconcile their differences under the mistletoe, which to them represented peace."

What makes a holiday a "Christian Holiday?" I ask this because in old-testament times, before Christianity, days that were observed by those who believed in God were clearly given as a command from God, from the weekly Sabbath to annual Sabbaths. Today, though, all days observed by the so-called Christians (from Sundays, to Christmas, to Easter) have no scriptural bases, and there is a lot of confusion and disunity in Christianity, which makes one wonder if they are really worshipping the God described in the Bible who does everything in order, who does everything in specific times every time, and who does not change. So, again, what makes a holiday a "Christian holiday?"

We do it in winter partially because of its significance with the winter solstice; the idea that God came to earth and gave light to a dark world. Note that this is different from celebrating the solstice ITSELF like the pagans-we don’t mourn the sun-rather it’s using natural symbolism to emphasize Christ’s humiliation as a helpless baby. Another good reason is that it fits better with the church year, which is basically a yearlong retelling of the life, death, and resurrection of Christ. After Christmas is Epiphany, the coming of the wise men and celebrating Jesus’ revealing of himself as God to humanity during his earthly ministry. Then Lent of course, and Easter which coincide with Passover. Wouldn’t be as effective to celebrate Christ’s birth and then WHAMMO he’s crucified the next week.
A lot of modern churches have dropped following the church year because it’s associated with “high church denominations” like Catholicism, Lutheranism, and so on, but there’s a lot of rich symbolism that helps organize what Bible readings are read each Sunday and so on. Might be worth a look if you’re not familiar.

Second, the King James Version is an inferior translation both for English speaking people and the underlying Textus Receptus is a text that has so much added fluff that is far more than what was originally penned by the apostles. That's convenient. Idc what people do but muddying the waters with all this doesn't help. Central focus should be about our Father's business like Jesus is/was.

I personally think the yule celebration of Dec 25th was originally a pagan holiday and part of the reason the council agreed to make it Christmas was to conquer this holiday for Christ. That said I also must admit im a former Wiccan so maybe a pagan biased still lingers but i don't think so. From what I understand (this is from here on out in this post - this is just that my understanding im not saying it's doctrine etc) Were able to celebrate holidays of the society as long as we remember God is the only true God and he gets his due and deserved glory. I heard that the shepherds were never in the field in the winter because it was to cold and was a time when they basically culled the herds and stayed with their families. If im correct also upon my understanding the date was decided in a council because the bible never really says when his birthday was (prob because he is the word and always has been this is his physical incarnation) but the churches and people were just like us a loved Jesus and wanted to celebrate everything about him also. so each church had their own time (some spring most fall) about his birth but the church as a whole wanted one universal day to celebrate it so they chose chose Dec 25th. I have often struggled with this enough to come with terms for myself. At the end of the day its reason not so much what season. We celebrate Jesus birth that whats important. We can do it the world on dec 25 and/or in sept within our homes minds which ever its all good. So long as its about Jesus not idolatry were good to go. God knows we love him and I believe takes delight in all time we honor and celebrate him. The glory is his give him his due and more than once a a year is good too.

I appreciate your satire videos. This one is funny, and what I got out of it was more about not judging one another on nonessential issues than whether or not to celebrate Christmas. I was a Judy before when I was convicted not to celebrate Christmas, but I’ve mellowed as Christ grows me in love. I’m sure I do things that don’t align with other people’s personal convictions, too- Just like some Christians don’t drink alcohol at all and some do. I still don’t celebrate Christmas, but I’m not going to condemn others who do. The problem I run into is family interpreting my non-participation as judgement of them. But I have had good discussions with family members that have led to us agreeing to disagree. Romans 14 is the perfect antidote to judgement on either side.

My Local (Reformed Anglican) Diocese has an *Absolutely Not* On Halloween, which it, IMO, Correctly, teaches as being Demonic, but it does do all Saints Day, which would probably have some people in the comments here, sadly, Hissing Steam about it not doing Reformation Day instead, same as they would likely burst a Fuse on it Doing Christmas and Easter as well.
My Personal Convictions, guided by the Holy Ghost, are:
Halloween is a No Go. It is all about Fear and Oppression, and God has not given us a Spirit of Fear, and we have a Spirit of Adoption, not of Oppression, So Halloween is Not from God! I personally do see Halloween as Demonic and try to avoid it.
All Saints Day is fine, so long as the Saints are only Remembered and Prayed For, and not Worshipped or Prayed to, that is Idolatry, but it is fine to Remember them, to pray for them, and to take lessons from their Holy lives to guide us in Holiness.
Christmas is Fine so Long as it is Celebrated as the *Official* (not Actual, but Official, like how the queen of England has an Official Birthday that is not Her Real Birthday, if she can have an Official Birthday that is not Her Real Birthday , then the King of kings most certainly can!) Birthday of Our Lord and Saviour, Christ Jesus.
Easter is Fine, so long as Celebrated as the time of Christs Death, Sacrifice and Resurrection, where he became our Passover as the Spotless Lamb of God.
I do hope this Helps, Love and Peace.

No where in the bible it Says when the day or time or year jesus was born. And the earliest christian did not celebrate Christmas . On December 25th 274 AD the Emperor Aurelian consecrated the temple of Sol invictus. Creating the holiday called Dies Natalis Solis invicti the birth of the Sun. And officially elevating the sun to the highest position among the Gods in other words the Sun God. Around 350 AD pope Julius officially declared December 25th the birth of christ. And we all know that catholicism does not have real Christian beliefs but pagan that's why the Vatican is full statues and symbolis even the popes staff represent the Sun God. And they also Glorify the virgin Mary but in reality they are Glorifying the fertility Goddes. Plus the Vatican Museum it dedicated to the Egyptian God's they have Mummified pagan princess and statues of Anubis , Osiris and Ra. Everything has a double meaning in the catholic church so all this Christians and Catholics a really still celebrating all this pagan holidays. Finally, I have a minute to respond to this post! I listened to your video and was reflecting and trying to see it from a different angle. I posted in a Bible study group I'm in and figured I'd copy/paste an excerpt to include here. Just so people see a side they may not know about. Btw..loved your video presentation.🤣
I've been sooo discouraged from celebrating God's feasts and have made people mad by not keeping the world's. I try to see if from different perspectives so I can be compassionate in how I come across. I am also trying to figure out how to live out my convictions in a life where I stand as odd man out. So, I just listened to a podcast explaining why the origins are NOT pagan. Even if they weren't..the fact that we just tossed out the original holy days and replaced them with what we have now is enough for me.
For years, I longed to bring Christ into all the holidays. All my attempts were glossed over, sometimes with eyerolls, busied out with all the other trappings, it just seemed so messed up. I finally found what I was looking for when I learned of Passover and there was just no looking back for me.
I try to focus on what we are missing out on, what we can (I won't say should) be doing instead. Hoping I plant some seeds. I have unbelieving family members wishing me happy this and that and I'm like??? Christians all upset trying to put Him BACK in Chrismas..you don't HAVE to fight that battle with the feasts. They are ALL ABOUT HIM! So much meaning to keep your heart focused and no extra manmade silliness to distract us.
Even the CYCLE of the feasts helps me with my walk. I have to remind myself often, but just like when I find myself slipping into apathy and depression, I think how God already told us life would be this way. My Rabbi used a simple explanation to explain how we experience the feasts personally: we die to ourselves (Yeshua died on Passover), we bury our sins (unleavened bread) Jesus was buried, we rise to newness in life (First Fruits) Yeshua resurrected, we receive the Holy Spirit (Shavuot) Yeshua ascended so we would, then sadly...we fall short...BUT...we hear the alarm, wake up out of spiritual slumber and repent...(Trumpets..which has even more meaning when you get into the different blasts and their meanings!!), we atone 🙏 (Atonement) as believers we have been atoned for, praise God!!!, we once again have fellowship with the Father ❤ (Tabernacles/Sukkot), and we have peace..shabbat! Selah.
The world, the distractions, our flesh are constantly pulling us away from Him. The feasts, and even the small ones like Hanukkah and Purim, can really draw our thoughts back to what's important.
During manmade holidays, in my experience, as hard as I tried to fight it, it's all about performance, perfection (perfect decor, gifts even when we cant afford them at times), black Friday fights over limited inventory, etc., running and gunning and planning to have parties. I was always stressed. And what, all to maybe remember to say "Happy birthday, Jesus"? On a day we all know isn't even??
Someone recently (don't know where I heard it) said it's like giving your wife a gift on your ex girlfriend's birthday! Yikes! I know for the years when my heart was no longer in it, but I hadn't revealed it to anyone yet, I was still trying. I begged for people who insisted on gift giving to get me things I could donate to the pregnancy center, etc. They refused?? They had to get ME something. But I didn't want anything but to be able to give. I had no job, no income so this would have meant SO much to me!!!!! People insisted on giving me what I didn't want!
I don't mean to hurt anyone's feelings that wants to celebrate. Im sure some have families all Christ centered and can truly make it all about Him. I still have to do a lot by default because I'm the only one in my family not on board anymore. And my hubby HATES this. I'm not even thinking of it in terms of sin. I know many well meaning people have a different perspective.
Like I said, I listened to a podcast all about how its NOT pagan and that's fine, she had historical research. I haven't had time to look those things up. I learned from reading Holidays or Holy Days which also has historical research. She brought up all the myriads of things that have pagan origins in the world, from the names of the days of the week to celebrating birthdays. Like if we are gonna get fixated on one thing we are a hypocrite if we don't boycott them all. I can't control all that. I WISH THE WHOLE ENTIRE WORLD DID EVERYTHING GOD'S WAY! One thing about those other man made things and celebrations like birthdays and names of the days of the week, etc., that is a little different than Christmas or Easter..they aren't trying to take the place of what God originally instituted and said was to be celebrated perpetually =forever. I choose His way over man's way every day of the week!!

Two questions, 1. Didn’t God say specifically not to worship him in certain ways? 2. Did God tell us to remember his birth?
Christmas would certainly fall into those two points one. I’m not here to debate just asking if what I said is true. If your answer is yes BUT, stop at the but.

These two arguments from commenters sums up the issues.
First, there is the misrepresentation of scriptures.
Second, there is the false belief that if God didn’t tell us to do something then it must be sinful to do it. This represents the opinions of many but it’s not based upon the scriptures.

@@kurtanderson5023 God did say it though. I’m not going to post all the scriptures but it’s several where God says to NOT just worship him as pagans do. I guess you can celebrate Halloween and Easter too by your logic. What about Diwali or Holi? He didn’t say anything against those either. You can’t argue for both points bud. It’s self defeating.

@@dizzow I will only comment respectfully to you.
You claim God told us how to worship Him but who were these commandments from Gods directed to??? Not you and me but the Israelites of the Old Testament. For Believers today we face no stipulation about worshipping Him. We are not bound by what was directed to the Israelites. To do so today borders on legalism.
However I can accept if you don’t agree with me. It’s ok with me if you don’t celebrate it. I don’t judge anyone that doesn’t. If you have the peace of God then I support you and encourage you to follow Him.
As for me I have peace that I can worship Him for His birth and participate in some of the traditions of the season. Blessings to you and all you love.
As for Halloween I have never met a mature Christian who “celebrates” Halloween. I do worship Christ at the Eater season but it doesn’t mean I worship pagan idols or participate in pagan rituals. I focus on His death, burial and resurrection.
So I can actually argue that we both are doing what God wants from us as long as we have His peace about it. Be well.

@@kurtanderson5023 this will be my final comment. What you’re doing is commonly known as making a false god. You try to find a way to make scripture fit your behavior and you referenced the OT so here.
      Matt 15:9
      Mark 7:7
      John 4:22
      Acts 17:23
      Acts 18:13
All speak of worship in the ways man wants to. Like I said by your position you can worship his birth and death and sweet 16 too right? Where does it stop?
