The instrument is called the "taanpura" and it sounds exactly like that. It is supposed to provide the pitch or the tonic support for the entire presentation, because in Hindustani classical music, we *mostly* do not change the main tonic for the entirety of the presentation which is about 45 minutes to an hour. Usually has 4 strings, but sometimes 6 strings too. It requires a great deal of training to learn to tune it perfectly or even well. In fact, there is another video of the same singer explaining what the taanpura is, what it does and why it is important.

The instrument is tanpura and it does sound like that. It is not meant to provide the melody but is meant to provide the base harmonic structure of the raag being played to help the artist maintain the tone. FYI Indian raags are each based on thaats, which are essentially a list of notes that the raag can contain and are meant to provide the base structure within which the artist can improvise yet stick to the rules of harmonics in the raag.

The lyrics are as beautiful as the singing.
The main line she repeats again and again
    "Daras bina dukhan jiya"
Means without the site (of the lover) the mind is aggrieved.
    Second line:
    "Man papiha Gaye piya piya"
Means the nightingale of mind sings Piya! Piya (darling! Darling!)
    The lines in higher notes
    Means
    Since (my) darling went to the foreign lands;
I'm in unrest day and night.

She is great. "I LOVE HER", however she is not the only one. I think you folks should start looking at others. There are rustic, melodious (Latha, Chitra, etc) and sophisticated (Kaushiki, etc) singers. Then it is carnatic, hindustani, gazals (Begam Akhtar, Farida khanum), qawalis, bhajan's, sufi songs, list is endless.
I have just listed what is popular. In music instruments, i guess it is time to get introduced to mandolin by U. Srinivas. He is no more, but was considered on par with Zakir Hussain with his instrument.
As artists i have another suggestion, look for videos and documentaries of various art forms in India.
I wouldn't hesitate to mention that Indian work on sculptures is on par with Michelangelo's Pieta (my absolute favourite, not for sculpture, but the thought behind it), you know what i mean.

Amazing control on voice and perfection in each note. Beautiful "meend" (smooth transition between notes)
There was no rhythm instrument like Tabla or Mridangam but it appeared as if it was autoplaying in her mind because she didn't loose a sense of rhythm a bit.
Tanpura, a background instrument is set for Fixed notes like Sa, Pa, and 2 other important notes of that Raga. If two Tanpuras are used its better. This is like an Anchor of the Ship. Continuous ringing of these notes in your ears do not allow you to drift your singing from the notes and you remain always " In Tune". Soe times due to change in room temperature if Tanpura drifts out of Tune, singer gets disturbed and is compelled to reset the Tunning.

There is so much more to explore on that channel. Don't get stuck on one or two artists. You haven't really explored the legends yet.

She's playing the tanpura which plays the tonic and the dominant.
    Excellent for vocal pratice.
As of shudha sarang. It's a pentatonic scale with missing 3rd and 6th.

While you're in Kolkata Rick, you can visit Shrutinandan ( their music school) and interview her and her father Pt Ajay Chakraborty (🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏) if you're allowed.
