My heart broke for Vernice when she brought up how hard it was on her not feeling supported by her partner when she and her community were going through a period of mourning together, like the entire world was protesting… but her closest person couldn’t sympathize. The look on her face when he said “wait what was it about I don’t remember?” Like this meant so much to her n he didn’t think it was serious at all to not remember. But then Ummm hell nah he said “I don’t remember what happened” then when she started speaking he said “I never said that” mf you just said you don’t remember but now you’re sure enough to invalidate her ???
That made me so mad. I'm white as hell and even I could sympathize with her to some degree. Imagine caring about your own livelihood and people like you so much during a time of turmoil for them and you feel the need to PROTEST. that's a hard decision to make in the first place because I imagine it's hard to accept the hardships in the first place. I only say this as someone who faces abelism due to being autistic, which is not the same as racism, and I can't imagine what Black autistics feel like, but I'm saying I can relate in a way with feeling discriminated against for something you can't help, and not wanting to accept it cause it's so fucked up. But autism, you can "hide it" (cause it's in ur brain and neurological wiring) where your skin, you cannot. So it's infinitely harder. Me and my partner are so passionate about human rights like that that if we even slightly disagreed on something like that we wouldn't be compatible. Of course small things don't matter but when it comes to protesting for your rights your partner should care and shpuld stand there with you! The only reason I didn't go to the marches and protests during that time was because my social anxiety was so intense and I realize as a white person I have that privilege of even chosing, cause for some theu feel they have to do it for the sake of their own people and them

I am also white n I agree it’s not exactly the same thing but I completely see where you’re coming from when you said it’s hard to accept hardships in the first place. I was diagnosed with ADHD at 18 and at 27 I finally started taking my diagnosis seriously n accepting that part of the reason I haven’t is because of ableism & stigma that ADHD isn’t real 🙄 i am very early in this process so I’m constantly still invalidating myself but I am catching myself!!! It’s okay that you didn’t go to the protest, it was early in the pandemic n very scary. and I actually went to the one in my city that was at 10:00 in the morning it was great n not overwhelming because it was spread out n I had my sister with me n she always helps ground me . I seen pictures from the evening protest later that day n the streets downtown were PACKED . even in a pandemic I would neverrrrr that sounds like hell, I immediately think of getting lost in the crowd or falling on the ground n nobody notices!!!
