Aprés avoir quitté la maison familiale à 12 ans, Guillermo Taboada a vécu chez Teofilo Velez en tant que disciple interne et participait au côté de Chito et Eddie Velez à des démonstrations publiques au cours desquelles les coups étaient portés et conduisaient souvent le jeune étudiant à être blessé à la tête. Les démonstrations au couteau se faisaient elles avec des lames réelles, ce qui rendait la chose trés dangereuse et réaliste. Poursuivant son éducation martiale auprés de Jose Villasin et Anciong Bacon lui même, l'entraînement de Bobby Taboada s'orienta sur les aspects pratique du combat car il était destiné à être l'un des représentant du Balintawak en cas de défi.
